Been to a couple of the preseason games and overall have been quite pleased with what I've seen.

We are clearly looking to play it forward quicker and we are playing with a better tempo. Which I think will help next year. Wilder has also seemingly done a good job of recruitment with the defence being improved and fleck looking an upgrade on any cm since macdonald imo.

A number of the "fringe" players have stepped in and done ok which must be a positive. I'm just wondering if this might mean Wilder may still be left with the same questions as me over his starting 11. Assuming no one transfer movement - midfield and up top looks like it's anyone to grab. In addition to even getting on the bench

Mcnulty, scougs have been doing well.
Coutts is getting more game time than he may have expected.
DCL impressing in patches, Adams has only played in parts.
Clarkes come in and is a different option.
Players like Brooks, reed, whiteman will want to push on and be involved.

I would go for the below - although It doesn't really fit wilders 4-2-3-1

Long
Brayford, O'Connell, Wilson, Hussey
Adams, Fleck, Basham, Duffy
Sharp, Clarke

Subs

Ramsdale
K. Wallace
Whiteman
Brooks
Done
Scougs
Mcnulty

Who would anyone else go with??

Long

Brayford Wilson O'Connell Hussey

Duffy Basham Fleck Done

Sharp Clarke

As it stands. I think Wilder's quite clear on that too.

Hopefully Long, Wilson, Basham and Done will be replaced.

This.

I have to say it's nice to know we're starting a season where the manager knows his strongest team. No chance of any Mcfadzean in the team or Alcock at centre half like surprises next Saturday.

Think Wilson has looked steady enough - looks an improvement on last years cb's at least. However, if we could get another dominant cb in I wouldn't complain.

........or step up and show they can be valuable assets and worthy of their place :)

If we don't get any more signings it sort of picks itself for next week.

Ideally we need three more minimum,

I think Scougall warrants a place in the starting line-up.

I think McCuntly deserves a place on Love Island or Made In Chelsea or maybe as Katie Prices next shag.

We have played the majority of pre-season with a 4-2-3-1 formation so I reckon we will stick with that for Bolton. Clarke has only just arrived, hasn't played 90 mins yet and not played up front with Billy either
I reckon we will go with;

Long
Brayford Wilson O'Connell Hussey
Basham Fleck
Duffy McNulty Done
Sharp

Subs;
DCL
Adams
Clarke
Wright
Freeman
Coutts
Ramsdale

Long
Brayford, O'Connell, ______, Hussey
Duffy, Fleck, _____, Adams

Subs:
Ramsdale
Wilson
Wright
Basham
Brooks
DCL
McNulty
A new CB and CM are a must. GK and LM still need strengthening also.

See I'm one of these that would like to think you can't fool the majority of the people.

Let's take the cross section of views on here the majority are all saying that we absolutely need another centre half and a Midfielder.

You'd hope if the majority are saying it Wilder is aware and working on it. We got told there would be no 'Dan Burn' situation this year yet since McFadzean there has seemingly not been any approaches for other first choice centre halves.

If we got a commanding centre half to play alongside O Connell I think we could cope with Long.

Our midfield still lacks creativity for me and if the likes of Basham and Scougall are to stick around it doesn't help.

So for me our best side with what we have now is ok but will do only slightly better than last year and we'll try harder.

I think you can swap jake Wright for Kieren Wallace, jake is a more expetienced defender, don't forget
Wallace is on the transfer list, has he done enough to merit a place on the bench? I don't think so

Wiĺder has already said we are going
withheld three keepers we have Barney Ramsdale is the England under 18 keeper so he should be able to shine at our level. If he was with a premiership club they would loan out to a team in our Division.
I expect Ramsdale to push Long for
the Jersey and if George doesn't come up with the goods then he will get his chance, rightly so! . I rate Long anyway so it will be an interesting tussle they have for the Jersey and that is good.

The back five are set, until we get replacements in that lineup for Wilson and Long. Sharp and Clarke are nailed on and so is fleck in the center. Currently Bash partners him but I think Wilder wants to strengthen there,.
With CW also saying Done isn't a winger we currently have Che and Duffy on the wings which unless Adams leaves will stay the same.
Ideally Bash, Long and Wilson get demoted to the bench but as it stands I see the same as Ricky exceot Done having to start from the sidelines.
I wouldn't mind Brooks, Done AND Tyler Durden man Scoogall getting a start though either.

Have to disagree on Long, he's one that divides opinion but I don't rate him.

Too timid and shy. Shot stopping is his main strength but his handling and kicking need serious work.

I haven't seen Ramsdale but I've heard good things so hopefully he can add some good competition. He's still very young to be worrying about pushing him for the first team yet though, there's no rush there.

Long has shown he isn't up to being the no.1 in a league one promotion chasing team, and Ramsdale is still very raw yet. I wouldn't be comfortable with either starting out as no.1. So for that reason, I'd have looked to sign a top, experienced GK for the number 1 spot, either sell or send Long out on loan, and have Ramsdale as no. 2.

Accept your opinion but Wilder must think between them they are good
enough

And McNulty will be a nice player to have whether it be off the bench or starting.

That's the problem."Must think they are good enough". Unless you have been a keeper or even if you haven't, you have played football with a proper one, you don't understand the value. This is where I knew it was going tits up last season when he stuck Long in first game. Adkins was a keeper. (Sort of) He knew Howard wasn't good enough but he had that blind faith that any manager has that who he selects is the best, and keepers don't matter because "they'll be ok". (Or in this case "I aint buying one).

George isn't ok. He wasn't ok. If you are re-modelling a team from scratch the keeper is probably your last consideration because you hope it isn't going to get anywhere near him, and HEY, SO WHAT, A keeper is a keeper isn't he? Regrettably not. Adkins had seen George in training, It appears he hadn't seen any previous videos or taken any club advice as to his weaknesses. Result? Rabbit in the headlights and a situation where Adkins had then to justify his selection all season long. ALL SEASON LONG.

As an ex keeper and an ex right side midfielder, I know the expectations of each position. When I was having a mare, I could hear the grumbling but no one else could or would take over as a keeper. They had to put up with it and trust I knew what I was doing. Anybody could do a midfielder's job if I couldn't. FFS Keeper is a specialist position.

I hope George can step up to the plate. I suspect he does not have the ability yet. How long can we wait?

No we don't know our best side for this season yet ....... because it hasn't been assembled yet.

We're still about 4 decent players short of a competitive squad for L1 .........

UTB & FTP

I think our best side is the one that gets us a top 2 finish!!

Matt Done is awful on the wing so if people could stop putting him there that would be great.

Duffy and Adams for the flanks for me
