It would be nice to see SUFC make a stand about this and play the Leicester match at Shirecliffe in front of 1 man and his dog. Presumably we could do this without breaking any rules? For many lower league sides this is the highlight of their season and a genuine chance of a day out at Wembley in front of a huge crowd. To have that compromised just so clubs who will earn hundreds of millions of pounds this season can fledge their youth teams really does stink.

Or we could use it to bring on some of our younger players, playing them alongside some of the more established players.
We only have to have 5 players from previous game, could that include subs that are made ten minutes from the end of the game?
That way we can play U21 just like Leicester.

Just a thought.

I think (though I could be wrong), that it has to be 5 starters from the previous game.

Saying that though, we made 10 or 11 changes for our games in it last season and took the fine, so I'd be surprised if we don't do the same again.

Don't agree with that. I'd say the vast majority thought it was shit unless they got to the last 4.

Can see why people disagree with the changes as a point of principle but let's not pretend they've ruined a great competition.

That has been done before, start with 5 1st team players then sub all you can after two minutes.

just heard on the radio 5 that Wet Sham aren't going to play their home games at the Olympic Stadium in this competition.
So yes, why shouldn't the matches be played at Shirecliffe?

The season is bloated enough already so why the hell play a group stage?
One of the beauties of the traditional English cup competitions is that they are sudden death, knockout matches - it makes them more exciting to watch so there is nothing in it for the fans but what do the FA and EFL care?

No just like the Olympics etc. its getting bigger and bigger and losing focus,

Rory McIlroy got it right, no need for Golf to be in the Olympics, he's not bothering participating........nor should we.

So we now have a knock-out competition in which there are restrictions on who can play and who can't.

A cheat's charter

My view on this is quite simple.

If we play our own development players alongside one or two first team squad players then i will go and watch. For the development players like Kelly, Wright, Semple, Gordon, Gilmoor, Hallam, Brookes etc this competition provides valuable game time in a competitive match situation ..... Albeit in a poor competition but non the less it gives them experience.

If we only play first team squad players then i will boycott the competition. It will be a fucking waste of time.

Over to you CW.

Coming out of self imposed exile purely to say what an utterly shit competition this already was and now the idiots that run the football league have decided to make it even more shit and time consuming and include a load of shit reserve clubs from clubs higher up the league this don't even care about the shit bastard awful competition anyway.

Let's all get excited about playing Reading's U21 team, I wouldn't be excited about playing their first team!

What a pile of toss.

Guess I'm the only one that, if they must run this thing in the first place, has no problem with the academy sides playing. Obviously the restrictions on selection at our end is ridiculous, but I really couldn't care if they let some kids get something close to an actual game.

Getting rid of it completely and kicking the Premier League clubs out of the League Cup would be optimal

Leicester B - Home w/c Aug 29th

Walsall - Home w/c Oct 3rd

Grimsby Town - Away w/c Nov 7th

At least there will be no holidaymakers when the feyting starts

That's next year:

EFL TRPHY 1st QTR Sheffield blades v hull tigers U13 - blades gain 1 pt for 10 yds forward pass. #goblades
Its only for League One & League Two clubs, so as a Championship side we will be exempt

Maybe our B team will enter

They get 4 passes to make 10 yards, if unsuccessful they have to Face off on the 40 yard line. If that isn't successful.................something something RBI's.

The important question for me is, does anyones baps fall out during the half time show?

So we can't play all our kids, what's stopping us not playing at all ? Tell the EFL to get fucked and withdraw like Man Utd did with the FA Cup.

Actually, good job we still haven't got Sammon. Not turning up would actually be better.

I quite like the idea of B teams in this tournament.

When they lose a lot that is.

Why are you in exile anyway?

Do a ginger tosser Megson move and sub all chosen first team selections to comply ,within first minute.

Promote other teams to do same and it'll send the message out !

But then the spin will be that "it's great experience for the young lads" what? Grimsby away on a cold winters Tuesday night? I can see a few young lads suddenly picking up 'Knocks' the day before those games

We're not allowed.

We still have the "minimum of five players who played the last league game" rule. Which makes this all the more farcical.
So lets assume we have a few youngsters knocking on the 1st team squad door. Use the younger players who are regular in the 1st team (if we have any). Play five who started the last 1st team game then pull them off after 3 off after 1 minute and put other academy players in. They are getting the game time and we are effectively using only two 1st teamers who started the last game. It is not a problem about injuries later and finishing with 10, 9, or even 8 men because we are showing devalued we feel the competition is.

How would people feel if we had ended up playing the Grunters second team and they beat us ? , same for a few other teams with hated rivals .
