.....after scoring first! Now that is shocking. I'm glad we have a manager who wants to play at a high tempo and get in their faces. I couldn't stand another season of us sitting back after scoring and waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Didn't come from behind to win once.

You can take it as a Clough or Adkins bashing thread if you like but the point the OP made was fully valid and that stat is inexcusable.

Shows three things
1. Lack of bottle
2. Poor tactical set up
3. Lack of quality to defend properly.

We all saw the sitting back on a lead and the frustration that came with that. All part and parcel of why the fans saw the players as lazy and useless. Sitting too deep, inviting poor teams to coma (thought of editing that but it seems quite an apt typo) at us, and failing to keep the opposition out time and time again.

As Les says, we didn't come from going a goal behind to win a game all season. That shows a lack of bottle too as well as a lack of heart and desire. I also see that as a tactical failure. All the substitutions made last year were a like-for-like swap - at times when the horse had already bolted. Nothing to alter the method of play or to shake things up - just plod on with the same old UEFA badge way of playing keep ball - but with sub standard players and keeping the ball in areas of the pitch you can't hurt the opposition.

The stat in the OP illustrates, perfectly what was wrong and what needs to alter. Wilder and Knill have a style and system that is a full remedy for that turgid, boring, immasculating, football by numbers system.

Goal mouth action
Work the oppo keeper
Get to the by line and get crosses into the danger zone.
Play in their half of the pitch and stretch the oppo defence
All things I was banging on about but didn't do - now I believe that will happen and I am really looking forward to it :)

Hang on, how can we have only won 4 games after leading first and not won after going behind...yet won more games than 4?

I've not been on this forum too long but that Barney bloke seems a bit of a dick.....am i right?

A point well made, TTAT

In abbreviated mode you forum handle sounds a bit rubbish, doesn't it?

derfblade - I just took your OP on face value but I now think we need a bit more of an explanation on the stats, please :)

Oh, and the way to deal with Barney is to think of him as one of those "special" cousins. You tolerate him at a family get together but you wouldn't keep his number in your 'favourites' section.

It was a joke, and I was agreeing with the sentiment in the OP. Not everything and everyone is out to get you, don't worry.

I would say that if you're going to get your knickers in a twist and hurl out the insults every time somebody makes a joke you're probably best off sticking with Bladesmad where not many post any more.

Ain't it!? Maybe TTT is better, like an upgraded Audi TT, but that would make me even more of an arse than your normal TT drivers. Tough decisions.

Chin up, think many of us have stuff that seems insurmountable (you don't want to know the bollocks I have to confront each day), but remind yourself of the good stuff you're responsible for, that in itself is an achievement to be proud of.
I know what ya mean brother , been a hard , bad year at times , but as the song can say " things can only get better " , was worried bout ya as I hadn't seen ya posting for while .

Now this post for some reason confused me so much, I had to review last year's results one by one. The OP's analysis is as skewered as it is possible to be. We indeed took the lead in 22 league matches last year. Four of those 22 ended 1-0 (Donny away, Scunny away, Port Vale Home, Covvo H), presumably the only way to make the OP marginally correct.

Another 8 turned into what you would call regulation wins, by which I mean wins of two goals or more in which we were never pegged back to parity (can't be arsed to list those eight). Another six turned into wins where we had to battle it out which I have taken to mean that the opposition at least once got back to parity. Among those would be Donny at home and Peterboro away which both ended 3-1 and would be remembered by most as regulation wins. Also in here would be the mad Crewe game which seemed safe throughout but for a mad second half late goal glut. In other words, only Colchester away, Rochdale home and Shrewsbury away were what you would call nail-biting nervy affairs after taking a lead.

In all, we thus won 18 times out of 22 after scoring first, mostly in a non-romantic manner. Adkins was very decent from winning positions.

I have to say that these findings surprised me, too. I also can remember feeling we were always pegged back after 1-0 and really asking for it. But we were not. We just never threatened wins really from losing positions and looked boring a lot of the time.

As for the other four matches, they were that 2-4 shocker at home to Shrewsbury, the 2-2 away draw at Fleetwood that we all remember as a late point gained rather than two dropped from a lead, the draw at Barnsley which really was unlucky and late and the 1-1 home draw with Swindon.

Really weird. Out off 66 possible points from winning positions we got 57 or 18 wins, 3 draws and only 1 defeat. This in a season where that Swindon home draw felt like the definition of our home tactics. When they equalized I remember texting people who weren't there "that has been coming. How many times has this happened this season? Fuckers!!!"

The answer, we all now know, was "not all that often"...

Thank you for that. I feel much better now

i saw that the other day but not sure where i saw it but its false mate all the games we won except for 2 (swindon home and fleetwood away) are where we score the first goal we never won a game where we conceded first tho

Agree with every god damn spanking word you have uttered there mi owd mucka. Youve covered it, nowt to add.

so if we we didnt score first against swindon and fleetwood
that means they did
so how could we never have won a game where we conceded first
