Just seen the united logo on the ice at iceSheffield. As a blade and an ice hockey fan I'm looking forward to winding up my piggy mates when when the steelers and steeldogs play at iceSheffield ice.jpg

I've actually thought for some time that there could be mileage in SUFC expanding the portfolio into other sports. It's very common in Spain, Barça and Real both have basketball, handball, hockey and other teams. The Steelers and Sharks are both very successful but neither pull in the crowds of old. The Eagles, despite pulling off arguably the greatest achievement the city has ever seen, have never had big crowds. Would alienate those of a blue and (pinstripe) white persuasion I suppose which makes it a non starter

What waste money we don't have on other sports rather than not investing in players? Don't give McCabe any ideas.

I seem to remember that Newcastle United, under the stewardship of Sir John Hall, tried it but soon gave it up as a failure!

I stand corrected: Sir John Hall pulled the plug on a 'Sporting club' (ala Barcelona) when the council 'blocked' a super stadium development plan in Leazes Park!
