Reciprocal pricing and return the difference to Bladesmen and women

Not straight forward I know and may be admin difficult and possibly a little socialist for some, but here's a thought.

United charge away fans at the lane whatever we are charged when we go away. The difference between that and a fair price (say £20 as a fair price) is then returned to those fans who've travelled to support the Blades. If it's easier put the tenner 'in the wood' against the next ticket bought by that fan rather than dish out tenners.

So every fan who pays £30 to Bolton will get a tenner back when Bolton come to The Lane. That tenner coming from Bolton fans. That way the Bolton fans are subsidising our fans who go away. Yep its unfair on the Bolton fans, but then they have more voice in their town and their club and the greedy Bolton board may listen. Certainly they will listen to them more than to us.

Simples, ensures support for the Blades, ensures our loyal away support isn't disadvantaged and makes a point to those who seek to rip us off.

Any excess ie if Bolton bring more than we take can go into a coach and piss up fund for those who go away, Can you imagine the reaction of Bolton fans if they knew their club policy was ensuring their fans were buying our ale....

There's a big problem.
We have the biggest home support and biggest away support in league 1, so the figures won't add up. Basically it's the board that will be subsidising away fans not away fans.

Let's say 3,000 Blades pay £30, then according to your theory the club need to find £30,000 to pay 3,000 their £10.

However if we charge Bolton £30 they'll choose to go away to cheaper games
And will bring 500 max at £30 which is £15,000 income.

So the club is making a loss and being asked to subsidise away fans by £15,000 for 1 match.

In these type of things its economics. Clubs have free choice to charge what they want.
Unfortunately clubs only listen if fans stop going. The problem is that most fans will find the extra for our first match of the season. It wouldn't surprise me if it's still a good 3,000 away following and that will prove that business wise it was a great move by Bolton.

I believe in the ground the food/drink is provided by external contractors...they'd be gone if people bought nothing in the ground...which would hit Bolton very hard...of course, it won't happen.

Wiz, I get your point but its not our (fans) fault either, if we charged them £30 at the Lane I would expect their fans getting angry,like us, and hopefully they would complain to their club, hopefully to find that they are told well its because we charged them that at our place so they are reciprocating, at this pont I would hope they tell their club what they think about it, but dont bet on it.

An important factor that people seem to have missed.

It's a cat A match and HOME fans are being charged the same £30 in the best seats
And £28 in the normal seats.

So you might get some Bolton fans also boycotting this match.

If we're being like for like for like and fair like people want
Then in the return we charge away fans £30 but then we must also charge home fans £30.
Then everyone suffers.

Like I said pricing is an experiment based on market forces.
The only way clubs listen is if fans stop going and do a boycott but they don't tend to work.

As we've seen across the city fans complain about pricing but if it's a big game or has attraction then fans tend to find the extra cash. The 1st match of the season is usually popular, hence cat A.
