Disgraceful O.P., lacks any sort of humanity or common sense.

"Wage thief" is a disgusting term and when it applies to a very young man who's career is hanging on a thread, it's anti-club, anti-decency and anti- S24SU. I am ashamed the O.P. can be quoted elsewhere under the tag "S24SU member/ SUFC fan".

The player did not offer himself a contract and he would be sacked if he did not have medical reasons for not playing. The third year option looks ridiculous now but again that's not the player's fault and he is not robbing anybody by taking it up. Clough took a punt with the club's money and it could have paid huge dividends.

That disgraceful you took over 3 months to work a reply out :-/

The bottom line Wallace is a Sheffield United player and a good footballer , but totally unreliable due to his fitness.

No idea how much the bloke gets paid , but the salary level was agreed with the club . The bloke didn't pluck a figure out if the air . Clubs fault not the player .

Wallace owes Sheffield United more than Sheffield United owes Wallace . That's humanity and common sense by both parties. Wallace needs now to get his act together.

I do hope the bloke overcomes injuries as he could be the catylist we require , who is already on the books so we save some money .

Blades luck IMO is changing and Wilder and his team will try and get the best out of Wallace who is at the last chance saloon.

Problem with us , we have taken too many punts on players which just haven't lived up to expectations or done the business. If we had gained promotion at any time we would not even be discussing this on the forum.

Like any club , failing business , the board , banks , funders , fans. , need a scapegoat . With our failure we have plenty come about by one thing - frustration.

It still may do ,Wallace will still have had to get past a medical ,injuries happen its a fact ,a very sad ,costly and frustrating fact in a footballers case ,no player wants to be injured ,wage thief is a ridiculous phrase in the case of anyone injured.

I wonder how much of it is psychological with Wallace now? Perhaps there is a player in there who can put in 30 odd games a season but everytime he steps on the pitch he must be worried about the next injury set back....

I have no evidence for this and if I were a professional footballer I would be ashamed if this was my attitude, but perhaps there is a player in there, but not a professional footballer. If you have a contract that guarantees you a good wage as long as you look as you are trying, then it's not difficult to pull out with a "tweak on the hammy" or a pull on the calf. You are only going to get found out if someone decides to spend thousands on experts interpreting MRI scans etc. and even then some of it may be in your head. Who is going to prove that? Sometimes, if you have managed to avoid playing for three years or so, your employer is entitled to deduce you are either (a) the most unlucky cunt alive (b) swinging the lead or (c) physically and mentally unsuited to your profession. With Wallace, my bet is (c). I love to be proved wrong though. God loves a trier.

Lessons learnt . Just what do the board , advisors , consultants , experts do at the Lane . It boarders on gross incompetence . Never mind having a cull of professional football players , some other faceless bastards need to look at themselves in the mirror . Never mind Adkins having jobs for the boys , it appears to happen in every thing SUFC.

The owners just have to give the football manager autonomy. The lessons learnt have led to the creation of this Technical Board for what it's worth but at the end of the day the owner and his cash are only as good as the managers he picks. Any manager worth his salt will bully that Technical Board as a matter of routine.

Nowhere near 3 months but just take the few weeks as a symbol of disrespect for a poor O.P. You should notice a pattern, initially a group of anti-whatever's going just like you, followed by posters who feel the need to put the record straight and here we are with some views on Wallace as a player and a man, rather than a supposed criminal.

Bless his cotton socks, I hope Hammond and his family are managing on the severance pay we paid him as well.

I think we should pAss a bucket round for Wallace at all home games next year to try and cover his wages shortfall for next year when he retires.

Deserves as much stick as Hammond - wage thief

Eh? One was shit and came back in spite of the fact no one wanted him and the other one is injured. Frustrating but not even close. I'd even say Wallace contributed more to last season than Hammond did. Unseen work and all that.

I am sure they will chat it over on their next trip to Dubai ................................

Sad, sad Blade, cheap shots, dead easy stuff." Bless your cotton socks" too.o_O This is a club and we are all in it, even the players and even those who are injured.

Fans slag off Clough for signing him, but we could have never normally afforded a player of Wallace's quality, if he'd been fully fit over his last season at Tranmere, prior to signing for us. He was also out of contract and it was a gamble worth taking in my view. To date its not come off through no fault of the player. I hope that Wallace stays fit and impresses either out on loan somewhere or better still for us this season.

Wallace over Coady went on Clough's metaphorical Blades tombstone, just as Adkins constant backing of Hammond went on his. It was a huge misjudgement which contributed hugely to his subsequent failure at the club.

Agree with you but if we were all in it together we wouldn't have git rid of 10 players and put 5 still under contract on the transfer list . That's our mishmash problem , the only set that have been pulling together is us fans turning up . Unfortunately the rest including certain players , management , board , ain't been reading or following the same script . Do players really want to play or do some just take the money and see there contract out . Think we witness and experience both sides of the coin .

I don't recall us not signing Coady because we wanted Wallace instead? I recall him saying Wallace was better than Coady, but my guess is that we couldn't afford Coady so he just bigged Wallace up.

Was it worth a gamble? Yes, I see that.

But a 3 year contract on eye watering salary for someone who's not played 20 league games in any one season? That's negligent.

Yeah maybe a two year year straight up would have been more sensible. I actually thought Wallace was going this summer because his deal was two years with the option of a third and I knew we wouldn't give him that option, but clearly we had no say. Maybe this will prove to be a blessing! If you're Wallace though, you'll just be trying your hardest to get back in and impress Wilder. It seems T'old Woolford isn't even training with us, based on the boxing photos. A pay off imminent it seems! The one player I can't see going is Coutts based on the wage deal he's got with us, I can't see another club paying his wages, unless we give him away on a free and then some players want the difference between their old contract and a new one, if the new one is lower.

This^^^^^

There is no way we turned down the chance the sign Coady because we thought Wallace was a better player.

Coady went to a Championship club, as soon as a team in a higher division comes in for a player it's highly unlikely we will sign him, it's pretty simple really.

I do sometimes wonder what planet some of our fans are on at times!

I never said Wallace was better than Coady, I thought that Clough had said that?! Personally I always thought Wallace was signed because we couldn't afford Coady.

Fucking Coady. He was never likely to join us. He said he'd like to when asked because he isn't sn idiot who'd burn his bridges. It was always his intention to wait to see if he got an offer from a club in a higher league before committing to us. And always likely that he'd get such an offer.

I was agreeing with you mate, I was disagreeing with those that for some reason believe that we turned down the chance to sign Coady when clearly he got a better offer and we realistically had no chance of signing him.

Aye sorry bud realised that after the fact! I still have hope for Wallace, and hope he goes onto prove his worth.

When you see James Wallace on the ball, you instantly recognise a skilful player. The only issue is we haven't see that much of this, but do you think he wakes up every morning and hopes that he gets injured again so he can just gather his wages and sit back.

Sorry, but anyone who thinks that is not really worth listening too.

I recall him breaking down in tears on a comeback that only lasted 20 minutes. I

I, for one, wish him all the luck in the world in the hope that his true talent can one day blossom, and I hope it's with the Blades.

Good luck James

PS.... Agree with Woodwardfan....

The contract James Wallace was given - money and length - having been injured as seriously and for as long as was the season before, was completely irresponsible - by those running a club. I agree that he has ability - but I have no faith he will be fit enough. I just dont think he will play regularly again - which is a shame for the boy and for us- but the reality. He'd have been released ages ago if it wasnt for the contract he is on.

I'd agree with you BushBlade but we were clearly lied to about Coady (our board said we'd been quoted a ridiculous fee, one that Coady ending going for a lot less than). Clough clearly felt he could get another Coady on the cheap and it backfired badly. Years later and this non-entity is still draining our wages.

I would guess that Clough brought Wallace because he represented a gamble worth taking for a small fee. As it happens its not worked out, but even now there's still time. I don't blame Clough for signing him. If fit Clough knew we would have a decent player on our books.

How can you make a comment on what his salary is? Do you get a copy of his wage slip every month? All other comments are spot on.

I agree 3 years was too long but it is what it is. We cant have a go at a lad for accepting the contract which was offered to him.

For people on here to slag the lad off for his injury problems is a joke. When he has played he works his fucking socks off for the team. Unlike some of the shite still at the club.
I hope he does get fit and shows what a good player he is.

Agree, Larky - he may well be on a low basic but made up with appearance money, which some of us may even think is sensible, so clearly can't be considered!

I still can't believe he is still here.

With the way things have been run over the last few years I think Id fancy my chances at getting a contract with us.

Our club has been like Woolworths with a pick 'n' mix of contracts right by the entrance that any twat can grab.

played today - perhaps he is now fit?

As Blades fans, irrespective of past issues with fitness, we should all hope he can stay fit.

As with Mcnuts, new season, new manager - lets see how it goes.

UTB

If we a paying em , why not play em. Nowt to lose and everything to gain for all parties .
