wright won't be a back up to simmo! .. he'll always be injured.. same owd same owd.. we're getting like the pigs.. signining crocked former premiership players to show we've still 'got it'.. come to the blades on loan.. get injured after one game.. spend the loan period on the treatment table and get paid at the same time.. we're a sickness benefit agency for crocked players.. i'd like to have seen aksalu given a go.. i'm totally unimpressed

As far as 'keepers are concerned, Speed didn't sign Aksalu. He's going out on loan, so either Speed thinks he's not good enough yet, or maybe never will be. Either way, he'd rather have solid back up to Simmo. After all, it's the fact that Simmo made lots of saves that helped us to get three undeserved points on Saturday. OK, you think that's almost like cheating, because it helps get us higher up the league than we would be if we had Lee Baxter. Why would Wright be a high earner?

I reckon Speed knows what else he needs, and signing a back-up 'keeper doesn't change that, the 'keeper just happened to come along first.

Very objectivist Trig. I reply to your points in turn.

Fair enough that Speed didn't sign Aksalu. If Speed ships him out then, this makes more sense. It would be yet another case of Blackwell signing crap and Speed not rating them. Wright has spent his whole life flirting with the England squad, top flight football and top teams. I'm pretty sure he earnt decent money at Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Ipswich. I also think he probably has a smart agent. Basically if you offer peanuts you get monkeys (look at most of our current squad). Wright is not a monkey and I'm sure his agent demanded more than the 10 packets of skittles a week that McCabe was offering.

Never did I mention anything about a goalkeeper playing well being cheating. Quite the opposite. It's part of the football and it is the beauty of the game. Randomness (luck etc) is what makes football so great to watch. If Chelsea win every game (which they should with their squad) then it would be boring. Personally I'm happy that United have been lucky and are in a higher position than they deserve to be. Just because I point it out doesn't mean I don't like it. Long may it continue.

On your last point. Yes, I have faith that Speed knows what he needs, but he doesn't exactly have a barrel of money does he. We are skint and the money on Wright's wages could be used better elsewhere (imo). Sure if we shop Aksalu out (and the other club pay all his wages - likely?) then this makes slightly more sense. However, do you think that Aksalu will be earning more than Wright Trig? I certainly don't.

Come on Olle is it not obvious why we got Wright in? He's played for England you know and McCabe can tell all his big time contacts this just like when he had a certain manager who captained England.

You don't need to let the quality of a signing/non-signing get in the way of a good moan, len's turned it into an art from over the years and his new apprentices will surely pick up the baton. For clarity:-

A signing is, by definition, rubbish, we get them because nobody else wants them.

A non-signing is, by definition, a footballing genius, we don't get them becasue we aren't ambitious enough.

So, moan away, you'll be in good company.

I might be missing a bigger point here but Len hadn't posted. So you could say don't let Len posting stand in the way of bashing him for not posting. I could moan about your moaning about someone moaning but that would just be silly wouldn't it?

Oh, good signing by the way.

Just to really bake your noodle here just because someone has issues with elements of the way the club is run or how we handle things doesn't mean their view is somehow worse than yours. Its the ying to your yang. Comprende? I'm off for a rub down with a greasy chair now I have aired my views.

He's got a personal vendetta against me because he thinks I am trying to steal Lenners crown. Basically he is just insecure about his opinions and can't handle a 'knocker' that puts forward intelectual, constructive views!? :D

In fairness to Trig he's an old schooler who despite years of arguing the toss with him is really rather fond of Len. After all, Len has been wrong about everything for the last decade now, as our top 10 premiership status, first team full of Academy graduates and Chinese internationals thrilling full houses of 35k on a fortnightly basis will testify.

Ah, there's hope. Maybe Trig will be fond of me one day. What do you reckon my owd objectivist mucker, can I get out of the Blue Square league and into the big time one day??? :D

WTF.

why on earth are we wasting wages on this guy???

We are in desperate need for a creative midfielder, a winger and a striker and Speed brings in a fucking keeper. Unbelievable. We have Simmo (better than Wright) and this Estonian chap (Aksalu or whatever his name is). Why do we need Wright? Because Aksalu isn't good enough cover? The why sign him and waste wages on him??

For a club that is skint this is a bizare signing. Pure waste of money in my opinion. Now in our small, lacking in quality squad we ahve 3 goalkeepers. 2 of these will be high earners. I thought Birch had commercial nousse???!!

Speed has it exactly right on this one and the moves he made so far. His philosophy of getting players in to shore up the defence and have at least two players for every position is exactly what we needed.

Get a solid base and work from there.

Personally i'll wait for creativity if we manage to plug the gaps at the back.

Nobody has said (from the club) that Aksulu isn't good enough, but he may need first team experience elsewhere before throwing him into a big game and risking him losing confidence.

Well done Speed! At least off the pitch

Its a messageboard, since when did fairness come into it? :)

I think our 'Nice Guy' manager is already revealing a welcome ruthless streak. He intends that Simmo and Wright will contest the Number One position. That's how it should be.

He has also begun the gradual elimination of The Maestro from our midfield as I predicted a couple of weeks ago.

Well done so far Speedo.

Isn't a gradual phasing out rather un-ruthless?

William the Conqueror would have put Monty's head on a spike in the tunnel as a warning to the non-footballing classes.

Bit of a setback Pinchy, from the O/S

Nick Montgomery, now with 301 league appearances in total under his belt, has taken on the mantle in Morgan's absence and would no doubt love to lead the Blades out against his hometown team:

"Monty got it because he has the qualities needed, not least the fact that he can handle it. I wouldn't expect any player to change their game or be affected by it because of the responsibility of being skipper."

Well, he certainly won't change his game!

Nothing there about ability. Subbed twice in two games within the first month? I think we all see the writing on the wall, don't we?

he has been a goalkeeper that has always played blinders against us.a good move methinks.

Could be a very good move this.

Although, I'd hope his wages are low.
If he can realise his previous potential, would be a fantastic signing.

There was a programme on tele detailing 4th / 5th choice goalkeepers at Man City and Arsenal .

Last game he played was 2012. He was on £350k per annum at City. Good back up goalkeeper and cheap.

Long must be No1 .

Beggars cannot be choosers .

UTB

wasnt he just named as part of the squad to make up 'X' number amount of English players but was there as a goalkeeping coach? Maybe that's just a bulls**t story I heard.

I must admit I saw it and my heart sank and I did a little poo.

£4million while not playing a match is not to be sniffed at.

I wonder what we were paying him not to play while he was here.

Good question....I actually believed him to be on his last legs when he joined us anyway. I mean we only signed him from Ipswich to warm the bench for us anyway didn't we?...Then he was lucky to get a little stint at Preston after us for another little Brucey bonus......And then Man City?? What the hell was all that about?

He played a fair few matches at Ipswich before joining us.

Although he has made just 3 appearances in the last 6 years. 2 of those was with us!

Easy money in football these days just to sit on your arse especially if you are a ageing goalkeeper.

So City were paying him 20k per week? Absolute retards. That's about 18k more than they needed to.

There are some very, very, very lucky people in football.
More like £19,999.99 More than they needed to!
