Blades in Euro clashes

Total sympathy for any innocent fan caught up in this. Not so much for any ing-er-land fan singing 'where's your ISIS gone', in country badly affected by terrorism where hundreds have been murdered, including police, in a port city known for its immigrant Muslim population with a rough reputation and a city affected by English hooligans in 1998, whilst playing a team known for hardcore hooligans.

It might have seemed like a bit of a laugh at the time, but probably didn't help.

The scenes inside the ground and of the groups of Russians in black shirts roaming around outside were totally scary. FIFA need to seriously look again at 2018. That could be a bloodbath.

I hope you're not suggesting England fans would behave in that matter ? Don't you realise that those fans with no shirt on throwing bottles and shouting " Isis where are you "....and " In-ger-land" were actually serving Russian soldiers disguised as England fans on some Putin backed project to provoke further Russian military action in Eastern Europe ? Are you so gullible ?

First post. Lurked for years but signed up as its my mates on the photo with the blades flag. They're all fine. The lad that got bottled is actually a Chesterdield fan (you can just about make out a tiny town sticker on the blades flag). He had 25-odd stitches but still made the game. Unfortunately he got booted all over at the game too!
Can only confirm what others have said. Very little has been instigated by England fans. First couple of nights was mostly local lad storming bars and cafes and then running off behind police. The Russians are a different breed. Organised. Some wearing England shirts. We've banned 100's of hooligans from travelling to France, Russia probably recruited theirs and paid for their travel. Did you see the reaction of the Russian sports minister in the ground? Worth looking up.

Agreed about the blades lads in the photo not looking for trouble also know them well. However the Chesterfield fan is a "reformed hooligan" and without wanting to cast aspersions he's spent most of adult life involved in scraps at football matches and I'd hazard a guess that this is the first tournament in the last 10 years he's not had his passport confiscated for.

Leopards can change their spots but it's telling that the lads who go to the football for a laugh and a beer were unscathed yet the one with a past in football violence was the only one taking damage in and out of the ground.

And here comes boo radley to back that up in ...3....2....1....

Flew back from Marseilles last night. Very little (if any) blame attached to the England fans, who are mainly just defending themselves from well organised sober russian and french ultras. Whilst being drunk and singing loudly attracts attention, it is clearly not the cause of these issues - as was apparent from the German/Ukrainian issues in another city last night.

The slight irony is that we are the only country whose "ultras" are absent, as they have been banned from travelling - whilst the Marseille/PSG ultras, and those from nearby countries are all there in force. It seems a little unfair when a few merry overweight england fans get attacked without provocation by organised gangs, and then get criticised for being beaten up!

It should be noted that Uefa have only charged Russia, and the French prosecutors have expressly blamed the Russian gangs. It is time that perhaps our media stood up for us.....

Our lot are paying for the sins of previous generations. And I wouldn't imagine our 'ultras' are absent because they've been banned from travelling - after all, one shaven-headed **** looks pretty much like the rest. I think it's more likely that our 'ultras' prefer their 'action' in towns like Carlisle and Ipswich. Put them up agains proper nutcases and they shit themselves.

You do get the impression that a few of our lads after a few beers and a good old sing song wanted to play with the big boys and soon discovered they were playing a bit rough.

Looks like some Blades were caught up in the violence

Anyone know this bloke and if he is okay?
My workmate (a Chesterfield fan) knows this bloke who got battered. Said this fan used to work at a bank in Sheffield and he is still going to the England v Wales match this Thursday!

The Guardian is reporting that a Sheffield lad just got 3 months behind bars in a Marseille jail for lobbing a bottle

Just read that a Russian MP has praised the behaviour of their fans and asked them to keep it up. Unbelievable !!!

"But Russian MP Igor Lebedev criticised French police and called on Russian football fans to "keep up the good work". "

What a wonderful opportunity to improve ones French. I always thought that a prolonged stay would do wonders for the old vocab.

I've seen that an Halifax lad and a bloke from Taunton have been put away for 1 month each, also a bloke from Birmingham is going to serve 3 months. Not seen anything regarding a Sheffield lad yet and there wasn't even one Russian arrested, laughable really!

Hi Lord Now.
Can you explain about the possibility of them being government backed?

All I can go on is experience in Russia when England played there . We were in a hotel outside Moscow which was attacked , well organised by Ruskie Hooligans who arrived in around 20 coaches . They were trained like the armed forces on how they stormed the hotel . It was mayhem . The police when finally arriving at the hotel did not intervene for about 30 minutes , which must have been instructed from above , therefore following orders .

When they did , no arrests were made , as in France .

These guys are more than your normal hooligans , far right or far left , no idea . Someone is pulling there strings and it's not the usual Millwall , our own BBC , Chelskie hooligans . These guys are trained for violence .

More to come and will anything be done - No ( only being arrested or charged if you are English )

Will Russia be banned - No

Someone somewhere is pulling the strings and for once we cannot blame the Yanks.

You only have to hear Russian MPs comments and it makes you wonder about a country who now appears to own nearly all of London.

Enough of these nutters to fill 20 coaches?
Sustained attack which continued for 30 minutes after the police arrived?

The body count must have been enormous. Don't remember reading about that.

Very glad I wasn't there even though there seems to be a touch of hyperbole.

Bottom line is the French wasn't ready for this.
Their coppers aren't enough they should have deployed the army to keep it under control.
How did them Russians get in the ground tooled up? Fucking joke.

Most of the trouble post match was firms from Toulouse, Paris and Nice who had travelled to Marseilles. They weren't local.

The Russians flew into Switzerland and drove across, avoiding the police. France's border controls seem about as effective as a fishnet condom.

It is time that perhaps our media stood up for us.....

To be fair Downing Street have backed the fans which was the biggest suprised to come out of it.

Media stories have changed from the initial reaction on Thursday, down to so much stuff being on social media.
