Championship

Sheffield United 1-0 Swansea

Danny Batth replaced Ched Evans in the 89th minute and then never played for us ever again.

I win. :)

Probably a winner, but not really in the spirit of the thread, since the reason he only played 1 minute for us was because he got recalled before the next game. :)

There were 2 Paul Woods at the Lane in the Bassett era. The first one came on against West Brom in the last minute in 1988 for his only appearance. That was the shortest United career at the time.

It's either him, Batth or Muggleton.

I saw both Wood and Muggletons appearances. Muggleton touched the ball. Not sure Wood did.

Oh - forgot Nathan Peel. Got the last 2 mins in our 1-0 win at Spurs in 1991-2.

Wood had about 15 mins in the game v WBA as we desperately searched for a goal that would have been a massive step to safety; WBA were our main rivals for the play off relegation place. We drew 0-0.

It's got to be Peel. He was brought on deep into injury time in that win at Spurs in order to run down the clock

Of the current crop it's probably a toss up between Scoooougs and Louis Reed.
Jimmy Johnstone from years gone by I would have thought?

John Ebbrell.
Lee Baxter
Graham Kelly.
Marcel Cas
Dries Boussatta

Must all be up there.

I've remembered a good 'un here or at least I think I have.

Midfielder Simon Walton, think he joined us for a season long loan from Plymouth. He didn't make a competitive appearance as he sustained a serious knee injury in a pre-season match away at Conference Mansfield, it was either prior to the 09/10 season or the one after. Was sent straight back to Plymouth after that.

If not for the injury I think he was supposed to be a first teamer for that forthcoming season, I don't think he was going to be anything special though hence he's played in L1 & L2 ever since. I think he made an appearance against us at the Lane for the Monkey Hangers.

John Ebbrell.

Graham Kelly.

Ebbrell went to Tranmere after he packed playing in. Got booked in his only Blades appearance. Booked and crocked in the same game. :(
Graham Kelly of course played in the 3-1 defeat at Coventry at the end of April :)
Lee Baxter; was it him who had the nightmare first half at Preston? well after an 8 year gap (probably took him that long to forget Deepdale) he went to er Sweden where he played for AIK Solna,
Marcel Cas out to Grimsby then to RBC Roosendaal and
Bousatta (aka Quick) just went!

Thought Baxter's mare was at Turf Moor?

Didn't Hao Hai Dong also play a few minutes in a cup game?

Matty Harriett didn't play much either.

There was also David Johnson, Dean Sturridge, Ian Rush, Ryan France, Simon Walton, Matthew Spring.

Goran Slavkovski. I know he never actually played for us but did he ever even get into the first team squad to sit on the bench? Did he ever even play for the reserves?

Top of my head list of players who made one appearance as a sub for United.

Paul Wood the first
Nathan Peel
Danny Baath
Carl Muggleton
Brian Launders
Chris Bettney

There's probably more....

Yep you're correct lost 3-2. Who replaced him at half time?

Always remember that we didn't have Marcus Bent with us at the time and the immortal phrase posted by someone on here or in FB "Had they played in the same team we'd have had a Bent Dong partnership" Priceless.

Also known as the Peyronie's attacking system.

Burton was an unused sub at Stockport on 20/11/99 but never got on the pitch. Seck never even made the bench.

Seck could have a claim for one of the shortest careers in the history of English football.

In January 2008 we loaned him to Scunthorpe. He only played once, coming on as an 89th or 90th minute (records differ) substitute in a league defeat to Southampton.

After that all records of him cease. He must have quit the game.

Nigel Adkins was the manager of Scunthorpe at the time.

John Egan played one full game (Walsall away) on loan from Sunderland in March 2012
Richard Edghill played one game in 2003

Kevan Hurst made his only appearance as a 90th minute sub v Coventry 25th Sept 2004 (according to Wikipedia)

Ryan Mallon made his only appearance as a 90th minute sub v Grimsby 13th October 2001
