As I interpret what KM spoke about:

Technical Board, which obviates the need for a D.O.F because all areas of the football division of the club are represented on the Board( committee)

Owners rep/s - to ensure recruitment strategy is being carried out and budget utilised effectively, not exceeded.

"Admin Guy" - responsible for player recruitment and contracts.

Team Manager - supported by his Head Scout.

Academy Manager - to remind the committee of Academy players who could fill the role being considered.

I think it's a reasonable concept which we fans should not be getting our knickers in a twist over. The Team Manager will know his budget now and as Wilder said the other day, he is used to working within a budget. Wilder knows full well there's no point suggesting we re-sign such as Maguire and match his Hull wages, not unless he makes a case for making him the sole signing of the year!.

As I see the committee, the Team Manager and Head Scout ( whoever that may be) will dominate it and if the manager wants a player within budget he'll get him, but it will all be dependant on the "Admin Guy" doing the deal with the other club and the player. Is the "Admin Guy" the one from the Property Industry?

The inclusion of the Academy Manager looks symbolic to me and merely a continuous reminder to all parties that the Academy is there plus great encouragement to the new Academy Manager and his staff and players; shame Cox isn't still with us. In practice the Academy lads who make the first team will have emerged on a long pathway which involves plenty of time on the bench and training with the big lads, it's poor of KM to suggest that Travis will pipe up in a meeting to say " why are you thinking of signing so and so when there's my young lad here already".

KM admitted we had not got past contracts right re League 1 wages with incentives for success not failure. He also admitted the Board selecting new players was not experienced enough. Sorry that should have been basic. Yes KM and the Prince should have set it up differently but what have all these blokes on good salaries been doing? Clough will have known better, Adkins will have known better. Branagan will have known better and looks as though he didn't manage the whole situation effectively in Clough's time anyway.

As ever KM has to eat some 'humble pie' but I suggest these blokes paid big money should have done a whole load better whatever the structure. If that Board dealing with player recruitment was not experienced enough then our successive managers should have provided evidence and demanded changes and the M.D. even more so. The owners did not choose player candidates, they did not negotiate with them; they had a right to expect their staff to get the job done properly. I contend the way things were suited our football managers and all the cronies they recruited as staff and players.

The interview in the video above annoyed me but I do not fully blame KM even though a couple of the things he admitted did disappoint me a lot. Put it this way, if I had been doing Brannigans job these weaknesses in our systems and approach would not have persisted and yes I have the background to operate at that level. Blokes earning 6 figure salaries should earn their corn. I'd have done it for the Minimum Wage given the chance, maybe 10 or 15 years ago too!!

Woody, did you just tout yourself as new MD of Sheff United?

If we could do a Time Travel :D My final sentence should have read "10 or 15 years ago though" ( I would have needed a good P.A./ proof reader!!)

Thing is any Board/ owners set the scene and authorise the employment of key people and then have the right to expect them to do a reasonable job relative to the salaries they earn. Yes I am saying I could have done better than those blokes who have cocked it all up over the past 15 years or so...and so could a number of other posters on here...we couldn't have done much worse could we?

Perhaps it's more of a statement to other teams who would hold us to ransom or other wise demand larger more lucrative contracts based on the fact it's Sheffield United.

The board could have every intention of backing CW where needed however coming out and saying that is just going to put out the message that we're there for the taking financially.

The message being put out about a very strong focus on youngsters and academy as well as a lower budget and the technical board put's out a strong message maybe aimed at other clubs/agents/players rather than the fans.

The past 2 years the manager has been backed, you can't argue with that, the budget has largely gone on dross and maybe the fact that it's been common knowledge that we've backed managers has actually brought players more interested in the payday rather than playing for a club the likes of SUFC.

I think this new approach of not being fleeced and focusing on youngsters put's out a strong message that we're looking for Young, hungry players, yes we'll back if needed but we're not going to shelling out stupid wages for players ala Hammond, Sammon etc...

Of course it could just be following the patterns of a lifetime for Mcabe but feels a tad different this year.

Wish I'd got your optimism mate. It certainly doesn't feel any different to me and I can't see it making it feel any better until I see some real change. A short retained list would be a good start because that would suggest an acceptance that last season's players had the worst attitude of any in my time watching The Blades and that the manager will be allowed to build his own team (with no clean slates given) - but not until I see the starting 11 in August and the way they play will I believe anything has changed.

I see where your coming from and i'm hoping it is a strategic decision rather than me being optimistic. Your probably right though. The retained list will show the boards attitude to the coming season.

This is the moment Wilder gets everyone on board, that first team, and the intent shown from minute 1

Any talk of wait 10 games, give it while Christmas, wait till the January Transfer Window, and ze Pitchfork will be out

First impressions, minute 1 - and anything else is bollocks

I might not be minute 1, but game 1? - absolutely because we will be able to see the intent. If I see Coutts wandering around the pitch I'll not see the game out.
