I see this opinion repeated quite often. I can't help thinking it's just a bit of a myth that's gained traction thanks to the general apathy towards the club this past couple of years, though. He's had plenty of purple patches away from "contract renewal time", in my opinion.

Not in the last 2 seasons he hasn't.

Kasim's got another year on his contract.

The issue here is that this player stood out against us several times, would have been available to us on manageable wages / transfer fee, if we had pursued him, and is now, in all probability, beyond the scope of our club and will go on to better things. Why do we never seem to get a player on the rise ?

We got Dean Hammond !

Maybe its the Iraq thing. It may well put a few off for no good reason.

I would be prepared to take the risk. Exactly the type of rounded CM player we have lacked for oh so long.

UTB.

He's one of the few in the team with genuine football intelligence (he can actually play one touch, pass and move football) but unfortunately he lacks any physical presence on the pitch. Technically he's also pretty decent but his injury record over the past three seasons is pretty horrendous.

It's thanks but no thanks from me, assuming we've got someone good lined up for the middle of the park.

Clough played him in my opinion as he did with others when they wernt fully fit.
When Adkins came he had some right crocks to rehabiltate. But before someone says it .He bought a few.
Be interesting what Wilder thinks of him.
Good worker and can play inteligently in several positions.

We even had him on trial a couple of years ago. As big a fuck up as not signing Sam Morsy for 200k.

That article says nothing about him being out of contract.

It's on wiki that he signed a 3 year deal in 2014, and this site backs it up...

Erhun Oztumer at Peterborough is out of contract though, he's a quality little player, comparable but more attacking.

Missing the point Rick.

He's off from Swindon, contract or otherwise. If its lower end championship sides only that are interested, we have a chance. I suspect otherwise.

As I say, exactly the type of player we should be pushing whatever size boat we have out for.

The initial point was based around out of contract players, and he's not out of contract. I'm not missing anything.

Not being available on a free makes him less realistic for us. We have a lot of signings to make so a sizeable fee on one player is unlikely. His manager will be bigging him up in that article him up to try and up the fee, but I'd imagine there will be genuine Championship interest.

Suppose it can't hurt to enquire though.

I used to like Flynny but it's as clear as day that he is nowhere near consistent or good enough for a promotion winning league one side. Whether we do anything about this will impact on what league we'll be playing in, in two seasons time. It's up to the club what they decide.

My way of looking at it is, let's say Flynn had been at Chesterfield a few seasons, and his contract expired, and we moved to sign him, how excited would you be? Would you honestly look at him and think that's the kind of player that will play for first or second in the league?

Because I'd look at it as a very underwhelming signing and an indication that we're in for more of the same next season.

What's too far about it? One of the best centre halves in the league, still young and ever improving, for free?

Are we talking about the same player?
John Egan, not David Edgar...

No we are not.
Do you want out of this division?
You arent going too with players like Edgar.
Two new CBs ( i'll have Baptiste back though)

Does he deserve a new deal?

I'm swaying towards no.

Been here as long as we've been in this division and apart from one or two good moments (Villa away, Charlton at home) he sums up the mediocrity that's plagued us. Think the only time he put a decent run of performances in was when we went on that run under Clough.

But I know there's some that like him and if Wilder is going to offer any out of contract player an extension, I could see Flynn being the one.

Discuss.
No.

Shake his hand, thank him and wish him well for the future

If fit he's a decent squad player. Having said that, not enough stature to play centre mid, rarely beats a man playing on the wing and has the disease that affects all our current first team, no pace. At best, he's a decent fill in full back. One thing I would say in his defence is that he has scored goals for us, maybe not this season due to injury but in previous seasons has managed six or seven, which is more than of the other midfielders currently in the squad.

In conclusion, as someone else has said, I'd be happy to go with Wilder's Wisdom in this instance.

Flynn is one of those that would be OK to keep as a measuring stick for the players we bring in. He's never going to carry a team on his own, but is good enough to fit in with better players.

It depends on his wages really, if keeping him restricts our ability to bring in someone better then get rid, if all we'd replace him with was somebody similar on equal or better pay, keep him.

No we are not.

Umm... Are you struggling with basic English?

No.

Flynn does not impose himself on the pitch enough . He has been at the lane through a number of unsuccessful seasons and never pulled any trees up. Wilder will stop us being a easy touch , rest home , therefore to change the culture certain players have to be moved on.

Would you want Flynn in the trenches with you.

Would you want Flynn if surrounded by Millwall fans

Would you want Flynn as he doesn't run through a brick wall

Would you want Flynn because he is inconsistent , not a intelligent footballer.

Would you want Flynn , because he will not give you 40 plus games.

Just get rid . As someone said , if he was at Chessy , would we want him . No Thankyou.

UTB

Flynn at his best is a great asset. It happens very rarely though. He would, I'd guess, fit into Wilder's style of football.

Umm... Are you struggling with basic English?
Not really (to and not too i,ll give you that)
You seem to like Edgar I dont if you want to elaborate on why you think he would be an asset please do.
For me his positional play is poor, distribution poor, weak in the tackle.
Also his international duties are a problem.

I haven't even mentioned David Edgar
This is bizarre.

about 8 posts later you still can't tell the difference betwene John Egan and David Edgar, have you been drinking?

Lane Ender... dannysufc_ wasn't talking about David Edgar (28 year old Canadian centre half, here on loan last season). He was talking about John Egan (23 year old Irish centre half; here on loan in 2011/12).

Bit of a moot point anyway given that Egan has apparently signed for Brentford.

Yeah, didn't realise that tbf, tad gutted!

How the times have changed. I doubt anyone would have been anything but gutted had he joined in 2012 but there you go.

I didn't realise Brentford had bids rejected for him in January. Might that mean Harlee Dean is available....?
