Paul Cook was someone many would've been happy with as our manager last summer yet Wilder outperformed him by a long way last season with a much smaller budget.

I was intrigued by that table and looked up online how it was worked out. Didn't get that far and as Claudio Ranieri was actually voted LMA manager of the year I'm not sure what that table really means. However, what I did discover that the LMA awards were first introduced in 1993 and the winner that year was one David Thomas Bassett. Well I never, another (very tenuous) first for the mighty Blades!

Yep, failed over one season. He's wank. :D

That’s the criteria these days, didn’t you know. Doesn’t matter if you’ve proven yourself a good manager over a number of years. If you don’t get promoted in your first season, you’re shit and have suddenly forgotten everything you ever knew about managing a football club.

Impressive, but... what the hell's a "TT score"?

EDIT: or what FTPE said

Tbf, it did look like he'd forgotten everything he knew about management.

Found this mate-

POINTS SYSTEM
Home Win
10 points
Away Win
12 points
Home Draw
5 points
Away Draw
6 points
Goals Scored
1 point
Winning Margin per goal
1 point
Clean Sheet
1 point
There is also a factor included in respect of knock-out matches, based on the league status of the relevant club.

Points are divided by the number of games played. This number is then multiplied by ten - to exclude decimals - producing the final Top Twenty score.

I disagree. I'd say the team's performances looked that way. Most of what he said I agreed with (coming over a bit WHF there I know but I promise not to put you on ignore).
We could all talk a good game. I could give blinding interviews where I said everything I know the fans want to hear. I couldn't coach or manage a team though.
Whether you think he should have stayed or not (and I wouldn't have minded him being given another season) his team selections, tactics and substitutions were very poor most of the time and he made some big mistakes that ultimately cost him his job.

I think he changed team selection regularly because the players were so inconsistent. A couple of times it looked like the tide was turning and he stuck with the same team then only for them to revert to type. He knew how he wanted to play and needed to be given the chance to get the players that could do it. Whilst those players were on the pitch playing like wankers, any manager could be accused of poor selections/tactics etc.

I'm sure that's why he did it but it made him look indecisive and weak. Especially when he continued to pick players like Hammond however poorly they played.
At no time did he allow the team to develop a pattern of play and the understanding that comes from a regular team selection.

I agree but the same accusation was levelled at Clough (who signed these nobheads). 2 different managers with 2 different styles found themselves chopping and changing trying to find a consistent winning formula. That's indicative that the common factor (the players) were the problem.

I'm almost done with this because it's time I / we moved on to Wilder, but I don't agree regarding team selections.

At least towards the second half of the season there was a consistency developing, and it was our strongest team. It's just a fact that our players aren't good enough.

If Adkins had talked in a way that people could relate to, most would still have backed him. Too much emphasis was placed on this, though he did himself no favours.

Wilder knows about the players too. We'll see in both the retained list, and those offered new contracts as they expire. And it won't be many.
