Ryan Flynn

Not sure that level of animosity is required here? Phrases like "waste of a wage, fuck him off" are fair for some but Flynn hasn't been a disgrace to the shirt. The question is whether he is good enough to help in a promotion push. It's borderline but I would say yes, unless there is someone significantly better waiting for us to snap them up. Wilder probably knows that better than we do so I await his decision with interest.

I just liked the phrase "Fuck off back to Falkirk" to be honest

Have to agree with this. Always tries to put a shift in and always trying to create chances.

Does he deserve a new deal?

I'm swaying towards no.

Been here as long as we've been in this division and apart from one or two good moments (Villa away, Charlton at home) he sums up the mediocrity that's plagued us. Think the only time he put a decent run of performances in was when we went on that run under Clough.

But I know there's some that like him and if Wilder is going to offer any out of contract player an extension, I could see Flynn being the one.

Discuss.

No fuck him off - only turns up against shit teams and goes into hiding in big games.

And is a fucking Fanny when it comes to a tackle.

Yet, someone earlier in the thread says he's only had 2 good games (against Villa and Charlton), big games against better opposition.
If he only turned up against "shit teams" he'd have a birthday according to those who rate every team in the division as such.

Me? Meh, as with them all. Not as bad as many make out, pretty sure we can do better, no idea where and not holding my breath.

I think he stays as I think he would suit Wilder's high pressing style. When fit he has a good engine, however there is the problem. If he goes I believe it will be because there is someone on the technical board list who can play high wide right.

Why?
What have they done to convince you under the past 2 managers? Do you like League One?

They just either don't have the quality, consistency, fitness or guts to play for Sheffield United. Delete as appropriate.

Time to wave bye bye to the losers.
Why? Because rightly or wrongly a number of the players you want to see gone will still be here and likely to be on the first team at least initially

It's nothing to do with how well they've done, we can't afford to buy a full squad of players.

There are plenty of players on frees who are better than what we have who will be on similar wages. We could easily get promoted without spending a penny.

And that's what's wrong with the club

Spot on Danny, this club will never learn.

We have the ideal time to clean sweep the club and start again under the right footing, and we will end up keeping the garbage on show from the last few seasons.

Flynn is extremely poor and should have been shown the door already, but typical united/McCabe with another puppet for a manager.

Fair enough, if you can name 10 free transfers that are better than the players you want to release then I'll agree.

I think what "AWetFlannel" is saying is that CW himself has said that some people will be surprised by who is on the retained list, some people who fans think are on the way out will be staying, and some people who fans think they should be staying will be on the way out.

Don't know where Ryan Flynn fits into the above, but that was basically what Wilder said.

Lots of people on here saying keep George Long, Billy, Che, Brayford and let the rest go, etc., it just won't happen, I think it will be two or maybe at the most three new faces.

How many clubs have enquired about his services over last half decade?
I read on here that during the Clough era Brighton made an offer but we turned it down and gave him a new contract. Which would explain why we snatched their arm off when they came in for Murphy.

I wish there was a dislike button for threads like this.

No no no no no... please CW this is the sort of deadwood we needs to be moving on

Graham Carey, Mark Duffy, Lee Novak, Reda Johnson, Mark Beevers, Daniel Bentley, Adam Hammill, Ed Upson, John Fleck, Joe Edwards, Shaun Williams, Franck Moussa, Mathieu Baudry, Dave Buchanan, Gregg Wylde, Tommy Spurr, James Henry Hal Robson Kanu, Dan Burn, Aaron Wilbraham...

There's 20 :) All of which are better than nearly anything on our retained list.

To be fair, a few of them yes but mostly no and most of them are probably not going to get much better

Burn and Baudry.

I would have Lee Novak here

Some of them are definitely better than what we have, but what chance do we have of Duffy, Hammill or Robson Kanu? It's a big risk to release a load of players and hope long shots like them come off, we've spend ages trying to get Burn on loan and it's not going to happen.
Players like Fleck and Williams seem decent but there's no reason to think that a player that has rotted at Coventry for years is going to be a winner with more quality than our lot.
PS I'll add Sawyers to the list if he's still going.

I agree with Sawyers, but most of the rest have been hit or miss to now and few are like Sawyers who's stock is growing.

Let me add a few to the list though just so people know I think there are better players available.

John Egan - CB - Gillingham
Harriot - winger - Charlton
Ajose - Forward - Swindon
Grandison - CB - Shrewsbury
Sawyers - AM C - Walsall

I'll just copy this list from a very good poster on Bladesmad...

Joe Lewis
Sir Dan Burn
Gordon Greer
Shaun Hutchinson
Ryan Tafazolli
Mark Beevers
Clint Hill
John Egan
Curtis Nelson
Shaun Williams
Joe Mattock
Derrick Williams
David Vaughan
Neil Danns
Alex Gilbey
Erhun Oztumer
John Fleck
Romaine Sawyers
Mark Duffy
Liam Feeney
Callum Harriott
Anthony Forde
Graham Carey
Lee Novak
Chedwyn Evans

If we get our arses into gear and commit, we can assemble the bulk of a good team by picking up some of the better free agents. That's not to say we should get rid of every current player because you don't want to give yourselves unnecessary work to do when the minimum requirement is already high and it's not as though free agents come without certain fees.

Yasser Kasim.

UTB.

His best runs of form in his time with us have both coincided with his contract being up for renewal.
I see this opinion repeated quite often. I can't help thinking it's just a bit of a myth that's gained traction thanks to the general apathy towards the club this past couple of years, though. He's had plenty of purple patches away from "contract renewal time", in my opinion.
