Does he deserve a new deal?

I'm swaying towards no.

Been here as long as we've been in this division and apart from one or two good moments (Villa away, Charlton at home) he sums up the mediocrity that's plagued us. Think the only time he put a decent run of performances in was when we went on that run under Clough.

But I know there's some that like him and if Wilder is going to offer any out of contract player an extension, I could see Flynn being the one.

Discuss.

Now our longest serving outfield player.

Signed on 14 July 2011.

Since 1999 only Montgomery, Tonge, S. Quinn and Doyle have made more appearances from midfield for us.

No.

His best runs of form in his time with us have both coincided with his contract being up for renewal. I'd thank him for his efforts and move him on. He'll either get a decent mid-table club in League One like Oldham, or Clough will try and sign him.

That would explain a lot. Would make a decent L2 RB imho

Time to move on for me. He should be on the wing and with all due respect we can get a more dynamic, skill-full and less injury replacement. David Worrall or Mark Duffy would both do for me, off the top of my head, over Flynn.

If it wasn't for his injury record, I'd say keep him as a squad player. With his injury record in mind it's a close call.

I'd consider offering him 2k p/w basic with a sizeable appearance fee and performance bonuses.

He's one of the few in the team with genuine football intelligence (he can actually play one touch, pass and move football) but unfortunately he lacks any physical presence on the pitch. Technically he's also pretty decent but his injury record over the past three seasons is pretty horrendous.

It's thanks but no thanks from me, assuming we've got someone good lined up for the middle of the park.

with any of the players we have, they would have needed to earn it on merit and they did not, Time to move on the dead wood and build a team we can be proud of.

Whether we like it or not he is a good L1 player.

Plays Right Back. Centre mid. Wide Right. with a small squad some players will need to be squad players who can fill in.

It would be easier to keep him than look for someone similar.

Ricky, my lad may be made redundant today, could you offer him 2k a week as well mate? Six foot four, athletic, fast, strong, he would love those bonuses as well! ;)

OK, here's what I'm thinking.

1k appearance fee (starts only), £500 goal bonus, £500 assist bonus, £500 win bonus. One year contract with the option of another year.

Is that OK?

He's a decent squad player at this level but not a starter. Offer him a reduced wage and if he refuses it tell him to fuck off back to Falkirk

Hes played well as a winger in spells. He's played well as a full back in spells. I'm mystified that "central midfield" was Adkins conclusion within the wingback system. Decent option to have on the bench in my opinion.

I've always liked Ryan Flynn myself and never really understood why he gets so much stick while significantly worse players (eg Coutts) tend to be given the benefit of the doubt.

Since he came back into the side this season he's been one of our best performers, not that that's saying much, even though he was in yet another unfamiliar position. And I reckon he's a player that will respond well to Wilder's brand of no-nonsense man management.

As a back-up utility man I'd much prefer to keep him over Basham., so I'd give him another year. But all that said, I won't lose any sleep over it if we get rid.

Not for me. He's an average league 1 player. Yes he's versatile but he's also fairly injury prone. Not particularly quick, strong or aggressive. He'd be a good fit for a team like Rochdale who play neat and tidy and don't have huge expectations.

Difficult to feel any bitterness towards Flynny, because he did tend to genuinely put a shift in (when he was fit enough to play, that is).

But, time for him to move on now, surely? - best for him, best for us. He's just too closely associated with failure here, like Neill Collins was.

New broom time.

Not sure that level of animosity is required here? Phrases like "waste of a wage, fuck him off" are fair for some but Flynn hasn't been a disgrace to the shirt. The question is whether he is good enough to help in a promotion push. It's borderline but I would say yes, unless there is someone significantly better waiting for us to snap them up. Wilder probably knows that better than we do so I await his decision with interest.

Less divisive than Collins but take your point.

he will be made up mate!

Keep him as a squad player. He can finish, and can hit some intelligent passes. Plus the odd overhead kick.

So many people on this forum want or expect the vast majority of the squad to be released and it just won't happen! The reality is there will be players retained / given another chance under a different regime that a lot of people will not agree with - however whoever is retained needs our support to help to the team as a whole - especially the manager

Why?
What have they done to convince you under the past 2 managers? Do you like League One?

They just either don't have the quality, consistency, fitness or guts to play for Sheffield United. Delete as appropriate.

Time to wave bye bye to the losers.
