Poisoning or a bit of cleaning? A dilemma for Chris and Kev!

Unless polishing the step is a euphemism I'm not familiar with.
It used to be said about wives that wanted to bump off their husbands. Polish the step, makes it slippery so the poor old sod goes arse over tit one morning.

Murphy was under contract, but we managed to 'ship him out' - or do contracts only apply to useless wasters nobody else wants?
Makes a massive difference if the player under contract is wanted by another club (and I guess that those are the players you would rather keep).

Chris Wilder can do what NA didn't or couldn't do last year he can get rid of most of the squad and bring in better players and get the fighting spirit back and turn BDTBL into a fortress again.
No clean slates, give them a chance etc get rid as soon as.
I will hopefully only see maybe 4 or 5 of the present players in the starting 11 come August.
I am expecting a very busy couple of months re the playing staff.
Maybe CW believes he can get something out of some of the players that our previous managers have failed to do?? I think it's unrealistic that there will be a mass clearout..

I can See McNulty staying because he can score goals. I could see JCR staying as well because he can get down the line and beat a man. The rest I think will be gone the day their contract is up.

I can see McNulty staying as he's not out of contract.

Howard

Kennedy

McGahey

McEveley

McFadzean

JCR

Flynn

Cuvelier

J. Wallace

Baxter

All out of contract.

Hopefully moving that lot on will create some leeway to bring in better. Baxter and Flo in particular I can see being on a decent wedge.

Then ideally we could also do with moving on

Scougall

McNulty

Freeman

Woolford

Coutts

That would really clear the decks to allow Wilder to build a team. But having 5 unwanted players under contract is a lot better position to be in that having about 25 of the fuckers as was the case last season.
Think he'll keep Coutts

I fucking hope not - the midfield needs players who score or create goals that cunt does neither
Definatly poor in scoring department but he can pass the ball needs a player with energy around him.

If Wilder is the man he needs to be, it won't matter if your contract is up or not, you will be shown the door one way or another. If he isn't then come the end of the season he will be joining Nigel 1 and 2 on the list of failures.

He's under contract...

So I'd read him the riot act to end all riot acts, and if he didn't show a 200% improvement on work rate in his very first game I'd stick a knitting needle through his scrotum and pin him to gates at Shirecliffe.

Game of Thrones teaches us a lot about leadership.

Yes, I suppose he'd be saleable if Wilder wants to get rid.

Harsh, didn't ask to get injured and didn't to come here.

No doubt he's spent many hours in the gym and treatment room trying to save his career.

Get shut? Yes but not because he's a cunt.

Certainly a factor is our Billy. No pace or height so the game has to be played a certain way to get the best out of him. Nigel knows his strengths and weaknesses well and he always produces under him whereas he hasn’t produced for us under anyone else. He may become quickly disillusioned a la Brayford.
Looking at how Wilder got Northampton playing,I can see Billy doing ok if CW brings in the right players...He would benefit from decent service from wide areas which has been poor all season.....I agree he lacks pace and height, but would benefit from a team that provides good service from wide, and gets around the back of teams where he can get across or drop off defenders to score goals..The service from the likes of Done and Basham was shocking..about the only player who provided any threat from wide last season was Freeman earlier on in the season for me.

Unless Clough comes knocking, he might be forced to. Maybe Widers alleged methods of "lots of running" well help Coutts to improve his athleticism a bit.

Hopefully he just needs a wilder pre season and not the ones offered by clough or Adkins. Unfortunately the biggest thing he needs to do is make coutts care.

Don't think he had one under Adkins as he was injured when he reported for pre-season I believe.

How do you do that with players under contract? Especially one's no other club is interested in? Strychnine in the tea and polishing the step are not options, sadly.
Don't play em, let them sit on their arses, for what good they are anyway.
If they don't like it, let them ask for a transfer.

CW Rebuild. Where does he start? Well he's quickly appointed Sharp as captain and role model. He emphasises that Billy is "not an informer" which to me means he is.

CW has never been sacked. All his Chairmen have displayed loyalty to the manager and recognised his achievements.

IMO this squad is in such disarray that the rebuild will take two seasons minimum. CW has the ability to build over a period and understands the need to build incrementally and for the longer term.

In his 'message to fans', dare he say that? I suggest he should.

I will always say that we should use the drop to League 1 as a positive and go back up rebuilt and stronger. We have wasted 5 years but it's not too late to do a proper rebuild and for Wilder to put together a young, hungry, pacey, mobile squad, ready and able to challenge all those fat cats in the Championship. Just because they have all those parachute payments doesn't mean they have spirit and hunger. Sneak up with a rag bag outfit though and they'll have us for breakfast!

Once Wilder has assessed his squad relative to his budget I suggest he comes clean and says this coming season is Year 1 of a 2 year project with promotion an objective but not the prime one which is to go up in a position of strength. In 2 years time Reed, Whiteman, Brooks and Lewin will still be kids but all being well they will be amongst the main men in a vibrant, optimistic, hungry squad and all the old, dead wood will be long gone. When we get to the Championship we'll run the fat cats off their feet

Don't put a big bet on us to go up this season. Take the pressure off and enjoy watching what you've been yearning for slowly develop and take shape. Too slow? There's no other way frankly.

Wilder will not bullshit us. He will not tell us there is 'spirit' when there isn't. He likes characters in the team, he likes to outwork the opposition. He'll find he's starting close to Ground Zero in those areas and has a mountain to climb. If he tries to sprint up the mountain he'll fall of a cliff.

100% agree - this current shambles cannot be fixed quickly without serious investment, which we all know isn't going to be available. It's going to be about building a strong hard working team ethos with committed players and good work rate. Hopefully we can attract some of the best lower league young talent and build from there. Comittment and effort seemed to be shockingly lacking under NA so let's have that back straight away
