I can see a few on here losing their minds if he decides to give extentions to most of the out of contract players.

According to Andy Giddings, CW has hinted that there may be a few surprises in the retained list when finalised.

Hopefully nice surprises and not a case of keeping a load of shite.

The only acceptable surprise should be that it's shorter than we expected.

Is it me being pessimistic or does it feel as if Kev is already working his magic with the new manager?

You see some of the players Kev may still consider a saleable asset despite how worthless they are and wont want them all leaving for nothing.

Fucks sake......

Do our managers not learn?

I think we just need to wait and see what these surprises are, then give our opinion. There's no point speculating or getting our knickers in a twist until we see what the list is.

I love the bit in the interview when Chris said the amazing support on Sunday that turned up. THAT'S WHAT WE SHOULD HAVE HEARD FROM OUR FORMER MANAGER! The bit that worries me from the conference is that he's working under a smaller budget than previous managers! Wilder has proven he knows what he's doing, he needs the backing to bring in some decent players. That said in Wilder we have the best guy, I think we could possible get, who knows the lower leagues and the bargains from all the divisions out there. Its just such a good appolintment in my view.

And mistakenly believing that there are manager and chairman teams (other than him and his previous selections) who are stupid enough to pay for them. He's got a rude awakening if that's so.

He's still under contract anyway mate. I'd be disappointed of McNulty isn't part of the squad this season. He's proven that he is a goalscorer, he's young and will only get better. He might only be from the bench for now, but McNulty has the potential to be a top forward, he just needs a manager that trust him, encourages him and gives him a chance, something that seemed lacking from both of the previous managers, although he did under Clough get to play games but when he had an off game he was back to the bench without another chance.

Let's be fair, if there's a few retained, we can hardly be surprised. I appreciated most were happy with Adkins being sacked but surely you all know that this would be an inevitable side-effect? Virtually The ONLY reason I wanted to keep Adkins was that I knew, at the very least he would allow all contracts to expire as they were the players that would have (nearly) cost him his job.

Wilder doesn't know these players. He doesn't know who is worth keeping and who to get rid of, why would he? So he keeps a few (based on nothing really because he won't even get a pre-season before making his mind up. We then can't afford new players and the cycle begins again. I wasn't pleased with Adkins either but the fact remains this was always going to happen with a new manager.

Typical new manager quote about the fans to get people on side.

What should be a concern is "a few" surprises.

Agree completely and was the reason I was against the sacking. You just knew the transfer fund would be small and would impact what we'd ship out but no doubt it had nothing to do with the compo being paid. Fucking McCabe. Where's the strategy?

Pre-Season 2025.

Sheffield United today their 19th manager in 19 years.

Kevin - After last year's failure to reach the play offs, we had no alternative but to sack the manager and bring in a new one, with fresh ideas.

The 19th - An honour to be at such a great club. We all start off with a clean slate and a message to all the fans, #UnitedTogether.
Although the back four average age is 45, it's only fair that I give them the opportunity to prove their value to this club.

All this was said as Kevin drank 3 glasses of water. No one in the room saw his lips move once.

McNulty has another year left but I can see him being given a fair chance under CW, who will have seen him first hand for Pompey and he's also had a good season for them.

Has another year I think so not part of the retained list.

Off the top.of me head:

Long
McEverley
Flynn
Harris
Howard
Baxter
Flo
Maybe McGahey?

I'd keep Long. At 22 he still has time to develop as a 'keeper and likely a better option than anything we could get as a reserve 'keeper. That said, reserve is what I'd prefer him as.

Harris is the only other maybe. Showed good form when we signed him but then became progressively worse. Would still pick him over Jay and he's a long way from irreplaceable. So a very tentative maybe.

Rest can go.

I'm impressed that he's managed to review all the DVDs of last season already. It's almost like he's known for a few weeks but has kept it under his hat and pretended he wasn't interested.

He bought the DVDs and the hat from me.
Second tree from the right, Marsh Lane every Sunday.
Weather Permitting (obviously)
