I cannot understand these bookies, I doubt we will finish top half.

https://betting.betfair.com/the-art-of-bookmaking.html - how bookies set their odds. The interesting bit is

"So how does a bookmaker set his original odds? We mentioned before that most of the early bookmakers will have a number of experts in each sport and they will come to a decision as to the opening prices. However, it is important to note that the odds they set are not based on the true probability of the teams winning, but rather what the general betting public perceive the true probability to be. This important difference is subtle but extremely important. In fact, it is the reason why professional gamblers can make long-term profits out of bookmakers. "

Oh not again, we finished 11th its ridiculous to see us favourites again.
Got to be down to the number of people betting on us, who are fools for betting on us.

This price of 6/1 represents a very cautious opening stance by the bookies.

Ricky has made reference to the Betfair Exchange and the odds when betting opens on there will be much longer, in my opinion, and a much more accurate reflection of our chances next season. To lay (as opposed to back) United to finish champions is likely, for me, to require you to go to double-figure odds. For example, at 10/1 (shown as 11 on the Exchange, to include the stake) you'd have to risk £100 to make a profit of a tenner.

To be honest, I think you might have to go quite a bit higher than 10/1 to attract any business. Punters aren't that stupid and who realistically thinks there is any real chance of us finishing top of this division next season?

And don't mention Leicester to me. They had good players, pace in the side, team spirit and a work ethic. We don't.

I can't understand where the bookies have plucked this from at all. Are they been serious? Have they seen the pile of shit we have been watching all season? Us to finish top? Not a chance in hell. If it wasn't for sharp and maybe adams this season would have been a relegation battle.

Post 25 and post 31 explains why.

seems like another standard lay and then print your money at the end of the season
