Lap of honour for the players/stay away Saturday

I was shocked twice at Full Time. firstly that there was a lap of "appreciation" at the time I was unsure because gary sinclair Microphone was a bit muffled so was struggling to understand what he was saying but back on topic because after losing 2-0 like that I couldn't believe that they would I would've been too embarrassed. But they showed more guts after the final whistle than I saw majority of the season & that fans wanted to stay behind. Because I saw the exodus & was shocked that their was fans left to do it. Normally I would be 1 of them but I just couldn't justify it.

But 1 thing I want to say is that from some people from videos stayed to have ago at the players boo & shout abuse. Now during the game emotions run high & I can excuse majority of behaviour as ive seen mild mannered men turn into the hulk. But to that during the lap 10mins after FT is crossing the line because that's calculated & shouldve left like I did without clapping them
Some were on with their kids as well. The academy players like Whiteman didn't deserve it either, and tbf neither did Long or Billy.

I would've stayed behind after the final whistle (to applaud) if it was just Sharp Basham Long Done Adams & some of the academy lads who have justified a lap of honour. But I couldn't justify clapping 30players when I only liked 7/8 players

It was cringeworthy and embarrassing, about 12 fans left on John St,felt sorry for Billy and a select few,Christ,we've really hit rock bottom

It seemed like a bad idea to have the 'lap of appreciation' with the players kids there. Surely someone must have realised that the players were going to get some abuse? Or were they hoping to get less abuse if the players kids were there? It's a bit like when a wanted terrorist hides in a school hoping it will mean they won't be targeted!

It's a team, not a box of chocolates.

Just for the record, at least one blade enjoyed his day on Sunday. At the beginning of the season (before Gillingham) I booked my son a mascot package for the last day of the season. He was to be told about it on his birthday (beginning of December) and at the time it was booked there was real positivity (remember that?) that the last day of the current season would be a cause for celebration. I struggled to keep it a secret until his birthday, but manage it I did. Although by that time alot of the positivity had ebbed away, it was still assumed/hoped that there would be something to play for come the end of the season, what with the transfer window being open and the loan window to come.
Fast forward to this weekend, we all know what happened in between...
We arrived at the Copthorne at about 4 on the Saturday afternoon after realising it would be a struggle to get to BDTBL from Sherburn in Elmet for 9:30 on the Sunday morning without burnout from all involved. Early evening, the wife and I took Sherburnblade Jr. for a 'night out in Sheffield' and a 'greasy chip butty' (the rest can come later, he's only 9!
An early evening in the Brothers Arms beer garden followed by a walk back to the hotel was enjoyed by all three of us.
The next morning, an exited little blade opened the curtains to look down on his chosen place of worship, got his kit on and after breakfast, ran down to the Legends of the Lane to meet his other three friends for the day (the other mascots) and proceeded to have the time of his life for the next three long hours. As you can see from the video, he's not a shy child when he gets into the swing of things....
Coming out of the ground, he thanked his mummy and daddy and told us it was the best match ever, and probably also the worst. He's a smart kid and didn't let the football get in the way of a great memory that he's likely to hold for a very long time. I, like one of his heroes John Brayford, spent most of the match looking at my phone, it helped me curb by usual 'enthusiastic language' so I didn't spoil it for the rest of his family and the families of the other kids around us, so don't judge me too harshly on that one! He got his water bottle signed by JB and got a photo with him and Ryan Flynn towards the end of the game and went home a tired and happy little boy, full of positivity for next season. I only wish I could have felt the same.....

If your happy to take the applause and adulation when everything's rosy then you have to learn to take the flack when you have under performed and under achieved.
I was more shocked that people actually stayed behind to clap them. Why? What have they done this season to warrant a round of applause from us?
There's supporting your team and there's complete utter blind faith. The majority if asked wouldn't have been able to come up with a reasonable explanation why. I stayed and watched in silence but I wish I joined the majority, turned my back on them and walked out at the end

I'm not sure who thought doing a lap of honour was a good idea. It's tradition you could say but the team that went down from The Premiership deserved a lap of honour much more than the current side passing themselves off as Sheffield United and they never got one. I simply can't believe the club as a whole went ahead with it or even planned it. Surely the club cant be this disconnected with how the fans are feeling? Parading a team around that have embarrassed us all season and have been involved in some of the lowest ever moments in our entire history? I can't believe the club even considered doing it. Here was a set of players that have been subjected to venom like Bramall Lane has never seen and people thought it would be a good idea for them to come out and take a lap of honour?

The fact the players brought their kids out after what has happened this season is also mind boggling. I'm not condoning it but it was obvious that many who stayed behind were going to give the players both barrels. Did they really think they would be holding their kids up to a full kop cheering them?

I've heard two forms of defence for this by people and these are "because im a true blade" and "they might be shit but they are our shit". I think their hearts are in the right place but clapping that team off after what they have done to this club is misguided in the extreme. I disagree with those who boo in the middle of games. I think it's totally counter productive and can never bring any good. If I was there I wouldnt have booed at the lap of honour this season but clapping them? For what exactly? These are the people who have disgraced the club all season. The club we all love. The club we pay hundreds even thousands of pounds supporting every season. It's like the victims family clapping their sons murderer at his funeral.

edit: Apologies for these last 3 rants. Lost it there for a bit

Exactly how I see it Roy. I've booed a few times this season but at the final whistle to voice my disapproval. Sometimes you just have to let it out at the end and away games at Bury etc I felt it was justified. The scary part now is when passion in whatever form is replaced by apathy as we are seeing so much of now. About 18,000 blades on Saturday and when they emerged for the lap we were looking at under a thousand. That alone told the true feelings amongst us

Who made the decision to have a lap of (dis)honour before the final whistle had blown?

"There ya go lads, those who've stayed behind might want to slit yer throats, but nevertheless, go and enjoy the ovation.
Most of you won't be here next season anyway..."

Did The Captain come along and did they play Tom Hark for the kids?

I dont think there is anything wrong with booing at the end either. It's a form of protest. The fact that we have been booed off in around half of our games this season yet there has been no "official" protest backs up your point about apathy. I've heard many this season say "We wouldn't have put up with this 30 years ago " but nobody seems to have the heart anymore to actually campaign against what has happened at the club

I don't "boo", but I do moan a lot, especially this season. I too was a bit shocked when Gary Sinclair said that the team and their families would be coming back out at the end of the game.

I turned to my missus and said "we are leaving straight away, it will be terrible because some of our fans, after a few half time beers, won't hold back, even with kids there".

It was at best short sighted. By the sounds of it they got a lot of stick but if more had stayed behind to let out their frustrations who knows what could have happened? I'm surprised something wasn't thrown to be honest. Thankfully I think most people who would maybe do something like that had left long before

'Surely the club can't be this disconnected with how the fans are feeling?'

And that is it in a nutshell. To have this and then have it followed up with Adkins interview criticising the Blades. Is there anyone at the club that we can connect too?

I am struggling to think of any events in our past that have been so unexplainable. Even those selling certain players have managed some form of argument.

Fantastic little video, glad he enjoyed his day.

Pity that come 2056 he'll be logging on here using my old name getting warnings off Foxy Jr.

I've just seen the Adkins interview and i'm utterly amazed at the audacity to mention the fans venting frustration almost as an excuse for their failure. From games I've watched this season it seems to me that the current set up are almost happy to accept defeat, Sunday v Scunthorpe being a prime example, similar to when Robson was in charge and fucking hopeless.

I may be wrong, (I doubt I am here) but I don't think any of the first team staff are ashamed to put in terrible performances, there's no fear factor if they lose, come Monday morning it must be forgotten about because we see the same ineptitude the following week if not the following Tuesday.

I think Gary Sinclair tried to portrait it like the team was coming out to thank the fans for the support this season. Does that help a little?

Got a point SB. How many timers in his pre match interview has he said "the lads have put a shift in on the training ground this week" and in his post match said maybe we worked to hard this week..... feckin Adkins bingo, its not funny any more!

After reflecting on Sunday's debacle , it becomes more and more apparent that all connected with SUFC both directors , manager and players are totally oblivious to our current situation . They appear to be brainwashed like being members of a cult , with a little bit of tweaking on the player front , we will be ok and even a force to be reckoned with . I do not no whether to laugh or cry . What a frightening ridiculous situation we are in .

The route cause is McCabe like it or like it not , but spin doctor Adkins has just made the situation worst .

As someone said on another thread , we have been going through the motions of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Do not expect miracles with the player culling and new recruitment . We would not know how to spot a bargain or suitable player if it hit us in the face.

I stayed away, but just seen this picture.
If you're wearing flip flops you're out for a start.

If the players hadn't come out, that would have been wrong in some people's eyes. Huh couldn't even be bothered to come out and say thanks to the fans. They really couldn't win could they?

It's Adkins taking the moral high ground, that is.
Hadn't noticed the bloody condescending T shirts before - what an utterly pointless exercise that was.

All smiles and false positivity in the face of a foetid stinking morass of utter bobbar.

He'll be telling the ducks about it in the park, you can be sure of that.
