The Villa game was 10-0 to avoid any confusion, yes that's right..... ten

February 23rd. 31 years ago 1985. The era of tight fitting shorts.

Goals from Glenn Cockerill and a couple from Mel Eves give us a 3-1 win over the dingles.

Tickets were a fiver which was the same as about Six Pints, which is roughly what they are now.....unless you're in the Prem, at the sty, or Fleetwood.

For months afterwards, people were still talking about it,..... that they were there, .......that they'd seen it,...... the happening.

You're right Dazzler as usual. It was the exciting memory of a United player...... actually scoring a hat-trick.
It was my 18th Birthday - had some kind of winning bet that all got blown in the Leadmill that night. If memory serves we went 1-0 down with Jack Lester scoring for them.

I think it was John Oster. Lester's goal for Mariners was in our 3-2 win in Sept 1998

Sheffield United 2-0 Southampton. (Woodward (2)

This was the first game at the Lane where railings were put up to stop supporters from moving from one side of the ground to the other.

October 3rd 1970 Blades 3 (Colquhoun, Dearden, Tudor) Wendy 2 (Craig or Colquhoun o.g., Sinclair)

ASSIST - v Sheffield Wednesday (h) 3.10.70. In the 7th minute United went one up with a fine headed goal by Colquhoun. Woodward's free kick was met firmly at the far post by Colquhoun and Grummitt was left helpless.

ASSIST - v Sheffield Wednesday (h) 3.10.70. In the 11th minute United scored a second and again it was a Woodward cross that did the damage. Dearden soared magnificently above his rivals to head down into the corner and well to the right of Grummitt's despairing dive.

Just after half time Wendy pulled one back with a soft goal after poor understanding in Blades defence. Some papers credited the goal to Tommy Craig, some said it was an own goal by Eddie Colquhoun. Not long after Jackie Sinclair levelled the scores after breaking away on the right and slotting the ball under Hodgy's dive. Then John Tudor came on as sub to replace Gil Reece and the photo below is Tudor's winning goal that went through Peter Grummitt's legs

Perfik, as David Jason once said.

Cresswell sneaks up behind the Plymouth keeper as he's about to clear and scores with 10 minutes to go and it turned out to be the winner.

Ward (2) and Camara had put us 3-0 up early in the second half only for goals from Bolasie and Mason cut the lead to one after 56 minutes. Jamie Mackie was a constant threat for the visitors and did score with 5 minutes to go but United held onto to win 4-3.

So here we go: 4 fixtures against 4 London clubs

40 years ago: February 28th 1976

QPR were the visitors on a run of five consecutive victories. United hadn't won five games all season. The game ended 0-0 and QPR went onto win their next six games and finished runners up to Liverpool by one point. In theory, a 1-0 win over United would have given them the title.

Sheffield United 3-0 West Ham

Unusual fixture as it was played on a Tuesday afternoon amidst the ongoing national power strikes. Dearden with a hat-trick.

Happy birthday :)

This was one of my greatest memories as a United fan in a school full of Spurs fans. I sat at home listening to the commentary on Capital Gold, getting increasingly excited as each goal went in. When I went in to school the following morning, one of my first lessons was Maths and going into the classroom I was excited to see a number of back page headlines about United's win plastered over the wall. Turns out the teacher in the class before was well-known for being a Spurs fan and a few Arsenal fans had snuck in to "decorate" the room before he went in.

Will we ever play in the same division as Tottenham?

When we played them in the semi last year, I was in the Irish Centre around the corner from White Hart Lane, I said to my little un's, whatever happens try to savour the atmosphere, the build up, the blades fans singing loud and proud, the match, even the long drive home, because nights like these don't happen very often.

Sadly, I think they may have to wait many years for the next time because the club currently, is at one of its lowest ebbs in its history.

Before last night's game, somebody posted about how difficult a game it would be against table toppers Burton.

Are we really in a Division where the leaders are Burton Albion?

Bradford City 1 Blades 4 (Whitehouse, Deane, Stancliffe, Agana)

Sandwiched in the middle of our cup clashes with the Dingles that season and two days before we finally saw them off, came this game. I'm sure the scoreboard said in the second half 'come on you yellows', but I may have dreamt that.5586517509_b42e6e5c72_z (1).jpg

That's my birthday too - what a great night that was (i was not there sadly - was at University but snuck away from the piss up a mate and I were having - she was 21 that day, I was 20 - to hear the 5th and 6th goals go in on 5 Live).

The Crewe game with the Monty goal is memorable for a different reason: my Grandad, a Blade since the 20s, passed away that night in hospital. His last act was to get the nurse to find out the score for him: he was pleased we'd won. Then he went to sleep, and that was that, as they say.

For once, United did not let us down.
