I agree. Barring injuries and provided a player maintains a good overall level of fitness throughout his career, there's no reason a player can't carry on to 35/36 years old.

If the guy is past it like some people are suggesting then he won't make it past the trial stage, will he?!

exactly...i mean look at Gary Speed - he's 458 in November but he's still one of the fittest players around, as long as the lad's got something to give us then i don't see why he shunt get a go

few people compairing this guy to mcall. 34 is getting on for a winger. mcall still had it but not the legs really, he could just sit in the park, hang back and dictate the play from not running round alot.

with a wingere you have to be up attacking and then back helping your fullback.

ZE MARIA will sign for Sheffield United this week, providing he can agree personal terms with Bryan Robson's side.

The former Brazil midfielder is scheduled to hold further talks with Robson later this afternoon after impressing during a five-day trial last week.

After watching his team climb to eighth in the table courtesy of Saturday's 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Robson confirmed: "We'll be speaking to him and his people again and providing we can come to some sort of arrangement then, yes, I'll probably take him.

"Nothing is certain yet but it's been good having Ze Maria here."
