Zak Brunt

Some of the stuff that goes on at these academies is totally wrong. The bullying and mental torture is disgusting. Zak gets a lot of stick for having more clubs than Tiger Woods but we only ever moved on after issues with staff or coaches.

It goes on all the time but too many parents are worried to speak up because the carrot of being a pro footballer is too enticing. I’ve been accused in the past of prostituting Zak around by shifting him, the reality is I was putting his well being before the potential rewards of becoming a pro. I didn’t want him around some of the cretins we encountered.

I can say that in our experience The Blades academy has been superior to every single academy in its treatment of young lads.
That’s good to hear that united are at least doing their best to do right by the lads. Academy development is strange given the fact these young lads spend so much time in that environment I find it strange they aren’t independently publicly audited and the results published like with schools. I know the EFL does some stuff but obviously like with anything in football that’s effectively self assessment and it’s impossible to avoid conflicts of interest.

Yep, if the manages intentions are to stick with these younger players, then he's got to stick with them until a time comes when he decides it's never going to happen. Trouble is in our current situation have we got the time to devote to their 1st team development.
This is the reason why I wanted to see some of these players in the first team last season, when we were essentially just playing out the fixtures, rather than the same unfit, out of form and want away players that had got us into that mess.

"Like" Whore

That’s something I’ve been saying for a long time mate, couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately history shows that an ‘OFSTED’ type auditor is needed. We’ve had the sex abuse scandals, claims of physical abuse and numerous examples of bullying. It wouldn’t eradicate these issues but it would make the wankers who abuse their power and positions far less room to manoeuvre.

Less room to manoeuvre and increases accountability not only for perpetrators but also for ones looking the other way. Which in itself incentivises intervention before the auditors even arrive on site.

Absolutely! I made a complaint to the academy manager at Man City about how bullying techniques where being used by a coach, I was just palmed off. The coach continued in his role, and with the same behaviour. He was sacked a couple of years later when another parent made a similar complaint. Interestingly the academy manager I spoke to had just left when the coach was investigated after the second complaint, which suggests he was protecting said coach.

I often wonder how many lads suffered at the hands of that arsehole before he was shown the door!

Yeah obviously a bullying accusation isn’t grounds for a sacking but you’d want to see a stringent investigation carried out by someone other than the accused’s line manager. Ideally it should be handled by someone with a decent degree of separation especially at a club with the resources that city have. Then if it’s identified as a pattern of behaviour swift action should be taken.

I like Zak Brunt as we are well aware and think he’s a real talent. Whether he can establish himself in the first team is unknown as yet, I can’t see any harm in dropping Norwood and giving him a game though. Not necessarily in that #6 role, but a bit higher up with less defensive responsibilities.

Love it. Gerrim in.

I see Zac Brunt got a couple of assists for Boreham Wood today - more here

He was only on for the last 30 minutes too, after winning MOTM last week.

Hopefully he can really kick on this season and start to show his true potential after the disastrous Notts County loan. He's not even 21 yet but I feel this year is a big one for him and could decide his career path

Still also not signed a new deal yet, was surprised he was offered one aswell.
I could be wrong, but I assumed we offered him a contract, so that we would get a ‘development’ fee if he signs for another club. For me this is a bit harsh as the fee would be small and I think this strategy also blighted his early career. …. Or it could be that hecky wants him in the squad. 🤷🏻

And as of by magic.. joins Barnet for a fee.

If your face doesn’t fit then it doesn’t fit, simple as that, Zak Brunt can play football.

Just not good enough for us.

Probably a bit harsh but you have to assume from his loans that he wasn't ever going to be good enough to step into our midfield. He may go on to have a reasonable career but I'd be amazed if he ever plays above L1 level.

Eastwood, Broadbent and Brunt all leave whilst under contract.

Can see Dewhurst, Sekiri, Gomis and Neal being others to go.

I’m not saying he’s a world beater but the lad can play football, it’s there for all to see if you watch him, meanwhile, we’re signing players like Osborn and Fleck up on thousands and thousands of pounds when we can’t afford to pay plumbers who are clearly not good enough anymore, where’s our thinking?

At conference level. We are in the premier league. There's a huge difference in levels.
I’m not fucking thick, Brunt is currently a better player than Fleck though on about £30k a week wages less than him, work that fucker out seen as though you’re good at working out what level we’re at.

And yet 72 clubs below us didn't want him when he wouldn't have been on much in wages and fees.

Work that one out i'm struggling.
