I would have liked to see him more in a no 10 role, now that we are using that (on occasions). But we've kept playing him deeper. Not sure he's got the engine for that. Is he contracted beyond this season?

I'm not sure on contract length, cant find the info, but he signed his contract in early May 2020...I'd imagine it was a 3 or 4 year deal?

Pure conjecture from me though

What do you mean we’ve kept playing him deeper? He’s hardly played for us. I saw his cameo for County in the playoffs, he’s quite a tidy passer but I didn’t see the next Duffy. If he’d have stayed at Southend, where he was appreciated and picked every game, he might have got a loan in a higher league but the grass was greener in Nottingham. Which seems to be the story of his career so far.

I'm also counting U23 games. We may have tried to develop his defensive qualities, which aren't great. In hindsight I'm sure he agrees he should have stayed at Southend.

It’ll be interesting to see where Luke Garrard plays him this season. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see him as a top player in a Blades shirt and I think he’ll have a career in the game but he really needs to step up and smash it this season.

the Notts County fiasco was a real on goal. I'm confused what we're trying to do with him in all honesty. Seem to be constantly messing with his position.
 
It seems Zac Brunt has pulled a season long loan at Boreham Wood this coming season. I'm a little surprised at that, thought he'd get at least a FL2 loan club.

I’d imagine the spell at Notts County put the breaks on that move upwards Roots football is a game of what have you done for me lately and after January he’s stalled.

He’s not featured for us at all in preseason even when some of the younger lads have done so and impressed cementing their place above him in the pecking order with that said I’d imagine it’s about going out and impressing to give himself the platform to build his career in earnest away from the lane.

Are you saying it was the club’s decision to pull him from Southend and send him to Notts?

I'd have been amazed if we had taken him back to be honest. We have recruited heavily in midfielders for the forthcoming season so I wish him luck at Boreham. Hindsight is a wonderful science but if he had returned to us last season rather than Notts, then who knows what progress ne would have been achieved?

One of our lads reckoned his big mistake was the move to Notts and this is what his dad had to say on it:

Saw this and had to sign in to say……absolutely bang on! He was made assurances by their manager who then went back on everything he promised. That move has set Zak back but he’s learned some very valuable lessons. I believe he’ll now push on given a fair crack at Boreham. 🦐
 
Looks like we want to keep Coulibaly and Arblaster around the first team, at least for the first half of the season.

Sydie Peck looks a hell of a talent and is making a big name for himself in our academy. Not sure if it's too early in his development to loan him out, but would think a move to a National League side might do him some good.

He's been phenomenal at U23 level. We'll have to keep assessing him as he reaches new levels, but there is not much he can't do. Unlike some youngsters we've produced (who I've also been quite keen on) he looks "complete", i.e. he's got a bit of everything.
 
Peck is gonna be a hell of a player if he keeps progressing, see my thoughts on the other thread. Both he and Arblaster can go all the way.
 
Interesting that lopata has not featured as he has had an operation, seemingly nothing to do with him not signing a contract although we await news on all our young players signing new contracts

If I’m a gambling man I think the extensions will get done after the window closes strikes me we don’t have a large behind the scenes team and it seems like there’s a lot of focus on recruitment right now probably rightly so.
