Proven goal scorer all be it Championship or potential star for years to come? Tricky

...Berge or Bowen?

🤔

I don't know what's happened to my club lately... And furthermore I don't know what's happening to me as a result!
Genuinely just gave the most smug laugh at such a question! Haha

In all seriousness though... I believe that we have got an absolute steal with Sander at 22mil! Sale of the century stuff. If I think about the players being bought for the 20mil figure then we've got to be over the moon with the deal done!

It is a really difficult poser, as I like Bowen a lot. However, I'm convinced that Berge has the talent to become a galactico, and we could easily treble our money in a year or two, should we wish.

I'm not convinced at all Bowen has what it takes for the prem. Very few players who do little other than score tend to prosper these days. He may well prove me wrong but I think he's a bit of a gamble - although not surprised a team threatened with relegation have had a punt on him. I do think he'll need to up his all round game to fulfil that price tag.

Berge will become a star in the prem, but, dont espect too much too soon, hes not messi!

I'll reserve judgement. Berge sounds like he could potentially be a great signing, but how many of those raving about him have ever seen him play?
I've only seen him in the CL games against Liverpool where he looked good to be fair. I think some will have to temper their expectations a little as he's not going to be the man who scores 10+ goals a season or who assists every week - he will make us so much stronger in possession and out of it though. He also gives us licence to maybe operate with a 'number 10' again given his ability to cover so well.

Berge without doubt!

Not one of the big money signings into the premier league has scored many. Joleinton 40m, Wesley 22m, Haller 45m, Maupay 16m, McBurnie 20m, less than 20 goals between them, not sure they have scored 15? But the potential is there in most of them to improve, but time is not what most PL clubs give to players having spent so much on them.

So Bowen is as much of a gamble as the above & more. Berge is at least an international of 20 games, whom other significant clubs have looked at. As has been said he may need bedding in this season but like numerous others under CW & AK's guidance I have more confidence in him than in another championship hopeful.

A good game against one of the bigger boys(I know he did it against the scousers in the CL) and his value will double, half a good season and he will be in the 50-60m bracket

Can’t have cost 22m, because bbc reporting Bowen was the biggest fee this transfer period at 18m.

Only my opinion but I think there's much more chance of us at least doubling our money on Berge in 2 or 3 years.

I don't think Bowen would give us more in that time frame to negate that.

I'm delighted with our business but do think s striker will be on the agenda in the summer.

Agreed but this guy has real pedigree, much more than anybody else we've ever bought (yeah we can talk about how players turned out but we've never bought one who's doing it and is on the up before).

In my opinion Bowen is a bit of a 'one trick pony', we'll see if he's has effective in the Prem against better players and better tactics

Can't wait until the summer version of this thread

'You've £85m to spend...'

I heard yesterday amongst all the crap that Bowen will be on £80k a week.

I'd have Berge any day of the week.

I think Bowen's a good player, and in the right side, he'll score goals at this level - whether West Ham are the "right side" remains to be seen.

Wilder himself mentioned that figure in his interview after Berge signed. He said that we didn't pay 22 million yesterday, it is structured. Or words to that effect.

He did, but at the end of the day circa £22m is 22m. And we don’t know that west ham are not doing the same.

Would have liked Bowen but not for that wage. Berge probably less of a gamble, in a more important position.

Not knocking Bowen, good luck to him.
But he’s never played in the champions league, and never played for his country. Berge will do for me.
