At this moment in time we are on a runaway train to join the pigs in the division below. This would obviously mean more cost cuttings so why aren't we sending our 'promising' youth players on loan to cut their teeth in the 1st and 2nd division. it seems to me that winning the youth cup to show what a good job JP is doing is more important than the future which we have been told is all about them.

Let's get the likes of Slew, Harriott, James etc; out on loan and let's see if they can cut it against the big lugs you get in the lower leagues. I am pretty worried that along with this train crash of a season we aren't preparing ourselves as much as we should be doing for next season.

I hope the boys would be willing to give up 'youth cup glory' for a chance of first team football next year.

Our ethos seems very confused!

You realise that sending them out to play with lesser teams, with lesser coaches, to maybe get some game time is not going to do a lot for them playing as a team? I'd say release the majority of the first team next season and play the lads in League One.

Not sure I agree with that. I wouldn't mind some of our players cutting their teeth with Sheridan at Chesterfield. A lesser team than United, not sure that is even possible at the moment

Ha. Maybe not. But I'll wager that our facilities are better than those at Chesterfield.

I don't think it's about giving them a chance to win the Youth Cup, I think it's more that they are young, not fully developed and not ready for the physical challenge of first team (especially lower league) football.
Some of the players on show in the last two rounds of the cup, which is the only view I've had of them, looked very promising, played some lovely football BUT didn't look ready, to me, to be taking on seasoned pros at their current level.
Kids do develop quickly at their age and so next season could be different as in Kyle Naughtons case when he did his final year at junior level (up front) and went off to Scotland the season after.

Spot on.
They would be physically slaughtered...they need to bulk out/ grow up, then maybe.

Players like Slew, Harriott, James and Chappell have played in the 1st team this year although briefly. Surely they would benefit from a stint at a lower league club. I am not sure which these players are 1st or 2nd years but it seems we don't go by the if he's good enough he's old enough philosophy.

who says sheridan would want any of them? they're 8 points clear at the top, i doubt any of out kids would improve what he's already got.

Perhaps a first eleven of the academy lads on Saturday is what the first team needs. Make them all watch as well.

Edit: From the back of the Kop.

Got to give them a go. The first team should spend a few weeks cleaning the kids boots.

Dont worry, they will get their chance for league 1 football next season.
