Your support is fucking shit

I often think that a lot of people on this forum would be far happier supporting someone like Reading or Bournemouth. By and large, football songs and chants are a bit cringey, rarely correct, often offensive and sometimes downright aggressive. They are seldom original and are generally third, fourth or fifth hand. But they are sung for a reason and that reason is to either big up your own team or slag off the opposition. Or both.

I have no problem singing about Sheffield United being by far the greatest team the world has ever seen, even though I know it not to be true. I have no problem declaring that (insert destination here) is a shit hole, even if it isn't and it's the most beautiful place on earth. Because that's what you do as a football fan, or what you should do. You big up your own team and try to rile the opposition. No one's trying win a fucking Ivor Novello or a Grammy. It's really not that important but it's no wonder the atmosphere at the Lane is shit if the folk who come on these threads moaning about chant content are representative of our support as a whole.

I mention this on the podcast a fair bit (though forgot yesterday), but I hate songs about the other team… and songs about the other team’s fans/town are even worse. Unless there’s genuinely something worth reacting to, just sing about yourselves.
Totally agree , it’s small club behaviour I think. Not many of the big premier league clubs do it unless rivals.

👏👏👏👏👏👏

The only chant that gets on my tits is the fucking EIEIEIO chant, grinds me gears every time I hear it. Full on EIEIEIO up the football league we go then mumble the fucking rest until its back round to the EIEIEIO bit again!

Not sure why I shared that 🧐

The best football chants are original and funny, unlike the generic shite that EVERYONE sings. "Who are ya?" has got to be one of the most inane chants ever.

My favourite chant wasn't at Bramall Lane but at the City Ground after the 2010 World Cup. Forest had Steve McLaren as manager and they were playing West Ham, who had Robert Green in goal after his howler against the USA.

The Forest fans started giving Green stick by singing "You let your country down," to which the Hammers fans Immediately retaliated "So did your manager!" In fairness to the Forest fans they laughed at the quick comeback.

One of mine is "no pig's in town " always remember a group of us singing it all the way through a county cup game stood on the tivoli at millmoor 😁

one of my favorite chants to opposing supporters. home and away. Does your mother know you, 're here.

I still like the Nigel Adkins one Scunny used to sing, "who needs Mourinio, we've got the physio"

The atmosphere at most premier league matches is shit. Maybe this is why

Remember singing similar to Stuart Pierce in ‘90.
“You let England down, Stuart Pierce, Stuart Pierce”
Even better as we won that game to get our first win at something like the 17th attempt.

I've had a few friends say how quiet our support has been at home this season. I agree, we seem to be quite nervous & anxious to win. I always think you see the best of our support when our backs are against the wall...a little bit like the home game vs Fulham last season.

We were pretty much silent vs Sunderland and you could sense the nerves throughout the stadium.

I'm not one to go to a stadium and sing/chant so I'm probably part of the problem but we do seem quiet at the moment IMO

My favourite was home to Liverpool when we got promoted under wilder, when Liverpool fans sang ‘Champions of Europe, you’ll never sing that’

And we immediately sang back ‘Champions of league, one you’ll never sing that’.

Me. Says me. That's what I do and I'm sure there are millions of other football fans worldwide that do the same and that will agree. If you don't want to, fine, don't.
OK. Good. So we've clarified that it is just your opinion and the rest of us can do exactly as we like, whatever that might be, and it doesn't diminish anyone as a fan in any way, whatever they choose to do.

In much the same way that it doesn't diminish the ones that want to sing the same old boring, rude, un-PC, unoriginal songs that you and your crowd frown upon.

I agree. I haven't frowned upon anything. Each to their own. I just take exception to anyone thinking that they have the right to dictate "what football fans should do". Because, obviously, they don't.
