Saw Chico Hamilton in local football, Timbertop I think,

Remember some tasty games against Timbertop in the 1970's. They would have ended up as a 5 a-side in today's climate.

The Burscough game for me, too. Remember being excited about it with them not just being a non-league side but a pretty obscure one too. Turned out to be hell of a dull game though.

Still get a kick when we get to play non-league sides mind, all these years later (like with Worcester recently).

I'm sure we missed a penalty in that game too, if memory serves ....@Silent Blade ?
Also remember shortly after that game, we played spurs in Division 2 and drew 2:2 from 2 nil down. Another big crowd at BDTBL.

Celtic got shut of Gavin I believe because there was something a little bit dodgy about him. Alternatively he had a shocking League Cup final appearance for Celtic and the fans turned on him

He was a class act , ran the show & could pick a pass with either foot , after 15 mins of chasing shadows I hit him like a steam train to let him know I wasn’t having another 75 mins of the same .
When he got up he said to to 18yr assailant in a broad Glaswegian accent
‘’ The next fucking time you try that sonny i’ll put you in A&E first class ‘’

Not sure what year 78 or 79 I think but Burscough at home 3-0 win I seem to remember

Jan 78 .. Blades 0-5 Arsenal ..Chico Hamilton missed a pen that a 3 yr old could have took better from 12 yards .. followed that up with a 1-5 home to Bolton in league following week .. welcome to the school of hard knocks young Bladev !

Oh and some of us saw the demolition the week after that at Joker Park. Caldwell promotions sadly didn't last long after that lot.

Villa away in 2005
Won 3-1, sure it was Garry liddle who scored the winner

Memories of, Jan 9th '54 at Hillsborough, big crowd 61250 most standing, we stood under shed on north side. We, consisting me, my granddad, his nephew by marriage all Unitedites and nephews fiancée a Wednesdayite. Side note, she did eventually see the light converted becoming ST holder for many many years as were the other two. At time was about same size as my granddad, 5'6", who was anxious I could see alright which I could as the teams kicked in and game started. Soon, with movement of crowd got behind taller people only to see glimpses of game and ball when in air. Remember being OK as we were winning HT but disappointed at end it being a draw 1-1. Thankfully missed replay, school, following Wednesday despite 1-0 lead at HT lost 1-3. Would United have won if they had played on the Tuesday?
Remember going to Barrow game '56 3rd round also 4th round Bolton sat in stand railway on left were told we'd no chance by group of Dibners as Lofthouse was playing. Never got a kick Howard Johnson aka "TANK" had him in his back pocket, win 1-2. 5th round Sunderland at Lane, snow on pitch, 51516 crowd, we mi granddad his son mi uncle Jack and me on Kop, normally terrace but was full. A barrier broke somewhere below trench, passed down above heads deposited over railings behind goal. Later a section of railing broke in a crowd surge to left of goal. People lifted onto straw, side of pitch, to be attended by St. Johns .United in Barnsley's change strip, blue shirts white collars & cuffs, white shorts with red soxs. Sunderland in Newcastle's home kit .Entertaining cup tie draw despite 0-0 draw. Lost again following Wednesday 1-0.

I was there, didn’t realise we were top of div 2

Could be wrong, but my memory has always remembered that game - I remember where I stood - I took my younger cousin who was an Everton fan and we stood on the kop. Can still picture Colin Addison scoring the winner (hmm, I think) and sure we both were top of respective leagues, but again could be wrong. Think we were the "main" game on the TV - although in those days not many were televised. Again, without looking at stats didn't we get promoted that season too?

Can't be bothered to look things like that up - it's those childhood memories that will always be with me.

They were good times to be a Blade - bit like now for all the young uns.

I was on the kop as well. I think both of our goals were headers. Addison, and ? Both goals scored at the Bramall Lane end.

Lost 3-1 at home to Cardiff in 1972. Their first goal was scramble at Kop End after a Bobby Woodruff long throw. MacKenzie equalised for us. Cardiff scored two late goals

That was also my first cup tie, I had never seen Utd lose as my first season was the promotion season 1970/ 71 (missed the Hull City home defeat ) . I had forgotten my money to get in and stood outside the kop looking up at the blades fans stood in the kop corner who kept relaying the score . Technically I had still never seen the blades lose .

Remember it like it was yesterday

Everton were top and finished top. We were 2nd to Huddersfield but finished 6th

23rd January 1999...Cup Replay at Meadow Lane... Notts County 3 Blades 4

has to be in my list of most epic games ive ever been to!!

I started watching Dem Blades in the 70/71 season. I don’t remember many cup games tbh. In fact the first cup game I really remember is the Bristol City win. Was it really 75? And I went to Villa Park and witnessed the 4-1 thrashing.

It’s odd but I don’t remember any cup games between 71 and 75. I’m sure we must have got beaten fairly early in the competition. We had a pretty good team back then but we were bloody awful in the cup.
