Mine was a 2-2 draw at home to Altrincham in 1981. Can't remember much about the game other than my Dad telling me they'd beat us in the replay. And they did, 3-0.
I went to that replay. We had Mike Trusson sent off and we were 2nd best all over the park. They had a huge giant killing reputation at the time. Still, season didn’t turn out too bad. We wanted to concentrate on the league anyway
:D

That was my first FA cup game. I had the misfortune to witness the replay as an 11 year old. I wish I'd stayed at home instead but went with a school friend and his dad.

Blackpool was 4th round in 1968, Everton in 1970 and Cardiff in 1972

Think we lost away at Cardiff 3-0 in 1970 (4th round) after beating Everton.

On holiday in Newquay the following summer and this kid who was a Cardiff fan was bragging how much better than Everton they must have been. Suppose that's how kids minds work.

Now I’m feeling REALLY old!

Bet there’s not many Blades who remember the likes of Barrow, Workington Town, Southport, Bradford PA as league clubs, let alone seen them. Saw BPA in a cup match at Barnsley the first season after losing their League status, guy called Tony Leighton played for them. Saw Southport also in a Cup match, I used to get all over as a young’un

No, we lost 3-0 at Derby after beating Everton in 1970. 3-1 defeat at home to Cardiff was in 1972

EDIT: Just realised that you were thinking of the league match a week after we beat Everton

Pompey 2 Blades 0 on 2nd January 1971. Went on the train special that went straight to Portsmouth (no changing at London and I remember my dad saying that we were on the line that bypassed London and I would be interested to know what the route was, which stations we went through etc).

Looking at the match programme, my dad pointed out Mike Trebilcock to me and he was telling me that Mike scored two goals in Everton's 3-2 win against Wendy in the 1966 FA Cup final We had won 5-1 in the last two visits at Fratton Park so I was confident of us winning there again but goals from Ray Hiron and Trebilcock ended our dreams! After the match my dad said that being knocked out of the FA Cup would help our promotion chances.

On returning to the Midland station we heard news of the Ibrox disaster

Portsmouth 2 Blades 0 January 2nd 1971. Second visit to Fratton Dark (sic) in four months as I had been at the 5-1 demolition in September. This time I was on my own. Came over from the Island (Isle of Wight where I lived). Gutted. As usual (we went about 20 years without getting past the 4th round) we were crap. On the ferry back heard about the 66 killed at Ibrox.

Indeed I am beginning to wonder if I have ever seen us win a cup tie. Saw us lose to Aldershot, Pompey again DB's first game 0-2, Arsenal 0-5, although we did beat Maidstone so maybe its just 1 win. Also saw SF losses to Newcastle, Pigs and a few others as an exile.

Probably not my first, but the first I clearly remember - January 1956 at Burnden Park when we beat a very strong Bolton side, including Nat Lofthouse 2 - 1.

If memory serves, Hodgy and Colin Grainger both had blinders but one thing I am sure about is that on the way home we went through the worst fog I have ever experienced. Me and my dad were in an old pick up truck and if you could see a yard past the end of the bonnet, that was about it.

That was mine. Deane was on the bench, and we fell behind 2-0 through a brace from enormously popular Blades legend Adrian Heath. Hodges and Beesley got the late goals, and I think someone (Adrian Littlejohn?) was sent off. This began a tradition of going to bloody freezing FA Cup games, which I will add to this afternoon.
And mine!

Route was probably Sheffield-Derby-birmingham-Didcot-basingstoke-portsmouth.

Maybe not! In summer 70 there was a regular train from Pompey to Sheffield went Portsmouth, Woking, Byfleet, Virginia Water, Hounslow, Brentford, Acton, Cricklewood and on to the Midland Main line up to Nottingham but might have used the Erewash Valley line then Chessie and Sheff Midland. I caught it so that's how I know.

Jan 78 .. Blades 0-5 Arsenal ..Chico Hamilton missed a pen that a 3 yr old could have took better from 12 yards .. followed that up with a 1-5 home to Bolton in league following week .. welcome to the school of hard knocks young Bladev !

I genuinely couldnt remember so did some research although I remember listening to the Coventry away quarter final in 98 in the car. from meadowhall. i think because of age & away draws I didn't attend my 1st fa cup game until 4 years later v forest at home in 2002 when i was 11. from research i think it looked a bit of boring 1-0 which is probally why I couldn't remember it. 1st game i can remember was the 2003 home game ironically the last time we played ipswich in the fa cup when we won 4-3

although in my research, I found something very weird that I haven't notice before, that in 1999/2000 when we played Rushden & diamonds in the 3rd round & beat them on penalties but didnt know it took place in mid December instead of the traditional 1st Saturday in january. anyone know why 3rd round date was changed & further more they played the 4th round on 3rd round date, 5th round on 4th round date etc & the Quarter Finals in febuary instead of march
It was a planned innovation that didn't catch on. It was perceived that it would ease fixture congestion around Christmas.

Never caught on

ah thanks i thought it was odd as we have gone back to normal ever since

v. Mansfield, in the 88-89 cup run. I have the programme so was definitely there but have no memories of it, but do have very vivid memories of the subsequent match v Huddersfield (Agana screamer from the edge of the area). We were standing on the old, open away end at London Road, a ground that looked essentially unchanged from their glory days around the time of WWII.

Full story of that cup run here:

I think Bin Lids were in league 2 that season drew 2-2 with them around same time as we lost to Arsenal

Saw Chico Hamilton in local football, Timbertop I think,

They were Cahill and I think we played em close on the Arsenal game , around the time Hoddle appeared on the scene for em , I think the Timbertop were to good for Hamilton :) .. best ex pro I played against was Ronnie Glavin ex Celtic & Dingles couldn’t get near him he knew where the ball was goi 5 secs before he got it , must have been a hell of a player in his younger days

It was Derby, Bert went.

If you ask Barnsley fans they’ll tell you he’s their best player they’ve had in living memory

Celtic got shut of Gavin I believe because there was something a little bit dodgy about him. Alternatively he had a shocking League Cup final appearance for Celtic and the fans turned on him
