Your current favourite player?

I was asked a few days since who my current favourite United player is......

For the first time in years I was stumped.

There's a few 'promising' players, in Evans, Britton, Bartley (if signed perm)

But do we really have any affinity to the others?
It stood me with the only answer available..... Nick Montgomery.....

So do you currently have a 'fave' player? If so, who and why?

Jamie Ward....for the following reasons:-

1. He shows more bottle and determination than players twice his size.

2. He is often the only player on our team that looks like he can unlock the door. Hence why my first thought on United winning the ball back is....'give it to Wardy'

3. He scored against the pigs and then taunted them at the Bramall Lane end

4. He winds the opposition fans up wherever possible.

5. He reminds me of a Michael Owen/Paul Devlin hybrid

I'm with you on this Robbie. What a talentless bunch we have. Any 'clapper' who denies that Kevin Blackwell didn't do a holocaust on talent at BDTBL should see this thread.

I was filling in the profile on her recently and it said who is your favourite player. Like you I was stumped. I plopped for Morgan (and Ward jointly). Not because of his ability, but more for his attitude and his love for the club.

Jamie Ward....for the following reasons:-

I think SC raises some good points and Ward is one of my favourites for this. In a slow, uncreative and blunt squad Ward sticks out like a sore thumb. He is quick, sharp and can make things happen.


On a slight aside, but related somebody at work said to me the other day 'you must ahve some decent players' and equally I was stumped. I said erm, well Cresswell scored a lot last season but has obviosuly changed his shooting boots, Morgan is solid, Britton has potential, Evans has potential (but has been a flop), Big Darius can head it and erm ...... erm .... Jamie Ward is by far the most dangerous player.

People will think that I am trying to turn this into another 'sunshine band' thread, but the 2 are linked. The mass lack of quality had lead to us finding it difficult to pick a favourite player. Blackwell has tore the heart out of SUFC, selling the best players, bringing in trash, thinning the squad. Suddenly after 2 and a half years the team is unrecognisable and we can barely pick our favourite player. Correct me if I am wrong 'clappers'.

Ploddy is the current favourite player. A guy who has no footballing ability whatsoever, but runs a lot. Oh he works so hard. He's looked completely lost for over a year now and I don't ever remember him being particularly good. Mind you, I suppose he is one of our top wage earners and hence he should be up there with the favourites.

Maybe you could start a poll Robbie. But don't forget the option of 'I don't have one'.

No it's not a wind up.

If I was managing another Championship or even Premier League team and I could take one player from us. It would be Monty. He is brilliant at the job he is sent out to do and never gives up and will run 'til the cows come home. Hence why he is my favourite player.

Without reducing this thread to another Monty bashing topic I cannot for the life of me understand any supporters championing Monty as their favourite player!
I am at a total loss to what he brings to the team except one dimensional play, he gives the ball away with increased regularity and cannot pass water.
He cannot create anything, his final ball is generally out of play or direct to the opposition, he gives away stupid fouls around his own 18 yard box and generally runs around like a headless chicken match in match out!
He is the favourite of many on here because he typifies the current United squad IE VERY ORDINARY and most of the clappers allude to mediocrity as the way forward!
My favourite player at present - undecided but Ward & Simonsen are probably the better players, Morgan fairly dependable, and thats about it! The rest of them have a hell of a lot to prove!
Once was a day when you asked Blades supporters favourite goalie Kelly or Tracey now unfortunately we don't have that luxury!!!

Me too, as a Sheffield United fan, if I could get one player away from our first team it would be 'Ploddy'. If I had to take a premiership or championship managers job (I've applied for a few but not heard back) to do it then so be it.

Monty for me please. Even if we sign Messi, Ronaldo (either the fat one or the pufter one), David Villa or Billy the Fish then I'll go for Monty. Who else puts the effort in, and as I've said before, half the time he's photographed he has his eyes shut. He'd be like Zidane if he looked where he was going all the time.

Monty would run himself to death for United, and even though he isn't the most technically gifted player on the pitch he certainly works the hardest. Those who claim he's the worst on the planet are talking out of their bottoms.

We aren't allowed to choose Monty, because Olle, Fiery, Torrix and company say so. Our personal preferences aren't allowed any more. Am I allowed to still like a bag of pork scratchings before the match, or have they decided against them now? Can they tell me who to vote for, when to breathe and when to shit, when to laugh and when to cry? Must I go to the pub that they do before each match so I can worship at the altar of their opinion? Am I allowed to go to the pub, or must I spend the three hours before each match practising taking my shoes off for a protest, just in case?

Or am I allowed to make my own fucking mind up without people trying to tell me what to think? I'm 42, for fuck's sake. I'm allowed to think what the fuck I like, and if that doesn't match with somebody else's individual opinion then tough fucking shit.

I thought this thread was asking for people's favourite current player, not a critique of other people's choices, or a general dig at a player you don't like. I am well aware that we have got rid of some good players in the past few years. Please allow me to pick who and what I like without having to do as I'm told, because frankly I will do what I like anyway. I liked Bob Booker, and he wasn't exactly Pele, was he?
