So now we know why they keep catching up with you from the asylum :).

Hope Cremorne is open pre game.
Not sure of post match venue.
Need a place for Mrs Ken and I to eat afterards an all. Any suggestions?

So as not to waste drinking time, next to the crem Saigon 68>
It is great food, amazing value and the portion sizes are enormous.
Mrs.K will feel totally stuffed , so any chance of you add to that feeling later that night will likely end up with you in the spare room.

Ha. Me and Ken Jnr use Saigon 68 a lot as a post match post boozer nosh pad :)

Been a while since I had a drink in town. Probably the John Barleycorn in Cambridge Street or the Penthouse bar on top floor of Grosvenor Hotel.
LOL. Are you getting the Penthouse and the Wapentake confused there? Summat I used to do on many an occasion in my youth :D

Probably. I used to use the cocktail bar in the Grosvenor and it was never the 'Penthouse bar'. And The Barleycorn (no 'John' in there) was up Cambrdge St. past where Henry's was - a teddy boy boozer.

My fading memory recalls the Grosvenor cocktail bar being on the 1st floor overlooking the roundabout and the dive bar being the Wap as run by ex Buccaneer Olga. Penthouse was a nightclub on Dixon Lane which had loads of differing identities including Rebels. The Barleycorn became a pub with a gay reputation. I will now google it and look a Muppet when I am shown to be wrong.

Anyone know if the Sheaf View will be open at 11?

Cremorne for me.

Hopefully their Kelham Best will do the hair of the dog lob for me.....

There's usually a notice up in Sheaf View stating early match opening, didnt see one up when I was in Friday. That's not to say they won't be though, too many takings to be had. Worth a phone call to ask ...

Errr ! I mean...is it really? Last time I went in there was when my 18 year old son was a toddler. It was just somewhere to take him to burn off some energy when it was pissing it down with rain or freezing cold outside. They had a kiddies play area in the back. I remember the food being absolutely awful. Frozen this, microwave that. Cheap horrible food.

Now, are you telling me that it has changed and is serving good quality food - or is the attraction to you the quantity?

Turned around several times since then. Used to be the knocking shop of Sheffield on a Friday neight. Now their bully buster is reasonable quality at <£4 whereas Cross Sythes >£9 for bits of organic sausage and gluten free bread type breakfast.

I think my mind could be playing tricks on me.

As one of the others have said, I got my facts a bit mixed up. There was definitely some bar in the Grosvenor Hotel, I thought it was called the Penthouse bar and was on the top floor, but I may be wrong about that. But anyhow it was a good place to go of a night out if you wanted to mooch around some top totty. You had to be dressed up though - but then again, that was the norm when I was a kid. People made the effort to scrub up and put nice clothes on - not like these scruffy young gits nowadays who go everywhere in jeans and trainers.

The pub on Cambridge Street was called "The Barleycorn" - not the "John Barleycorn" as I incorrectly said. (That was a song). I must be honest, I never went in there. I heard it was a Teddy Boy place and later a gay place. I didn't fancy either.

The Wapentake bar I went in occasionally - and the Nelson nearby. The Penthouse Club was down Angel Street/Bank Street if I recall. It was a heavy rock venue. I went a few times but I wasn't really into heavy rock and anyhow, I went to club to pull girls not listen to the music and dance. And the type of biker chicks you got down there weren't my thing.

Back to today and I won't be having a beer before the match. If I did I'd probably go in the Beer Engine as I think it's got the best range of beers for a pub within walking distance of the ground, although I also like the Sheaf View as well. But I may go for a beer afterwards - but only if we are promoted as Champions, otherwise I won't bother.

gotcha! Thanks. Worth knowing. Yes I preferred it when it was the knocking shop of Sheffield. You talking about when it was "Fanny's" or do you go back before then to when it was "Fiveways?" . I remember both.

Fiveways. That was the car park challenge ;)

Sheaf now, just thinning out, the bars clearing and I can see the pumps again!!
