Who would you make the back four this season based on what you have seen?

McGahey is still finding his feet but has looked well. He looks to be experienced above his years and looks like he could be all round stead enough.

Butler looks like he could be dangerous from set pieces. He's already nodded one in pre season he's had a few chances before today and had a couple of chances again today and he looks like he could be a nuisance in the box like Maguire was. He his experienced as well in this league and a natural leader.

Collins is Collins. We all know who he is and what his strengths and weaknesses are. He's put one in already and whilst not being prolific he is steady and honest and was part of a successful back four already for us.

Bob Harris again we know what he is about. He does a job and does it steady enough. His work rate isn't bad and he can get forward at times.

Alcock is steady. Looks a honest worker and puts himself about. He has a pass on him and looks confident going forward and has a decent cross on him as well.

Ben Davies is a decent player. Works well at full back and in midfield. Again experienced and has a good pass and cross on him as well as a quality free kick.

Freeman if he comes. Looked well enough last year. Steady and comfortable going forward. Work rate is good as well.

Harris a shoe-in at LB. Not sure about the rest, will reserve judgement for the first few competitive games.

Alcock - Butler - Collins - Harris

McGahey on the bench for now I think.

I got the impression the signing of Butler was done in preparation that Maguire would leave.

I agree pretty much just McGahey or Collins for me. Butler could be handy and a threat I think and the full backs I would agree with as well. Feel bad when it comes to Collins because he has been part of a solid back four for us but this McGahey lad looks handy.

Mcgahey will be a star, but NC will want to keep it very tight early on in the season and experience will count.

Would like Mcgahey to start, but reckon Collins and Butler. Alcock looks quality at this level and we all know about Harris.

Not a fan of Doyle but was much better at sitting in front of the back four under NC and become more disciplined as the season went on, so reckon he will be the cover in front.

As for the front 5....................absolutely no idea - draw lots really...........

Trouble with Bob is that he will get suspended due to the way he plays and he has had a few injury niggles in recent years. Davies is a funny one because his set piece delivery is usually spot on but I can't see him starting unless we have injuries.

NC singled out McGahey yesterday despite his mistake for their 2nd so I think he'll start, probably with Collins although it wouldn't surprise me if we bring someone else in this week.

I would be surprised, nay shocked if Mcgahey starts next Saturday. He is raw, a little naive and his tendency to give the ball to the opposition a bit alarming. Maturity could cure these ills in time, but maybe NC's talk up of HM's York performance was just a public protective arm?
The kid looks a bit too muscle bound for an 18 year old for my liking, seems to limit his mobility.

Tony Adams was muscle bound too at 18 but he had a good career but I know what you mean about developing muscles too quickly

Out of interest, how many minutes have Collins and butler played together this pre season?
