Last year I was talking to someone whose son is Jordan Slew's cousin. I was saying that I thought Jordan Slew's agent (Mark Rankine) made a bad job of getting him a move to Blackburn Rovers because Jordan hasnt really made any progress in his football career and I thought he would have had a better football career had he stayed with us,

She shrugged before going on to say "Jordan now has a nice house and a nice car"

This is a sad state of football nowadays

The thing is, he won't keep his nice house or car because by the time he's 30 he won't have a vocation to afford them.

And more to the point, I'd imagine Mark Rankine has a nice house and a nice car.
Rankine probably has a nice(r) house and nice(r) car than Slew thanks to his unfailing efforts of ripping young talent away from SUFC by dangling some cash in front of them. Hopefully there is a huge mantelpiece in said house to store his play off final losers medal on.

I was once told (by someone who would know) that Jordan Slew's agent was his uncle. I said that I thought Mark Rankine was his agent, they basically shrugged and said that must be him then.

I suppose it doesn't add much to the OP but it maybe disproves the idea that his agent didn't care about his career

It's a difficult debate but whilst we've undoubtedly had some decent money for some average youngsters, I can't help but think we've not seen enough of too many good young players before selling them much cheaper than what we could have not much later.

A number of other similar size or smaller clubs have a number of more examples of keeping players a bit longer and getting both more playing time and bigger fees.

Well look at Scunthorpe today. Rejected £4m for van what ever his name is. I know he's not a youngster but you can stand firm and get more which utd haven't done historically. That said, if we've got £1m for ramsdale with 6 months left on his contract then it's good business in my opinion.

That train of thought will never catch on at Bramall Lane.

van veen is a regular first team player
you cant compare him to ramsdale

we would have had to sell billy sharp for that comparison
we set up the academy to make us money developing talent
we cant now say its bad we do that , its its reason detre

I wasn't for one minute comparing it to Ramsdale. I've just said here and on another post that I think it's a good deal. Neither am I criticising the club for selling players in the past. Scunthorpe rejecting £4m just goes to show that you can say no and demand more money. The Kyles and Lowton as an example. Could've got more if we'd been stronger.
Until you get into the top 10 of the PL or get a ridiculously rich owner every club sells its youngsters. We just let too many players leave for not enough IMO.

We'll never know if Rankine was a genius or a chump because Slew might have turned to shite here too. He got offered a lot of money and took it.

When lads like Ramsdale or Slew choose these moves, I don't really blame them. They will play U23s and should be able to find a loan deal to develop their careers after moving. The only thing that would stop me advising them to do it is if they're not yet mature enough for such upheaval. Upping sticks to Bournemouth is a big deal for a teenager. I shat myself just going off to Uni, never mind having the pressure footballers live under.

It's sad but when the amounts of money are so large, agents and parents will find it hard to advise against it. If the kid gets injured having turned down a million pound deal then the implications are huge.

Is it just me who thinks this is isn't a bad career move for Ramsdale ?

Yes, there will be a better contract involved but he can now get a loan deal to a L1 or Championship club which I doubt we would've allowed.

Good luck to the kid.

The only downside I can see is if Wilder was about to drop Moore and give Ramsdale a run. As it stands, he'll make a tidy sum, and he should find a loan deal in the summer, so he's made a fair call.

What we can't know is how he'll react to having significant money at such a young age, and all the distractions that brings. Slew or Walker? Time will tell.

I thought your best buddy Kevin had said time and time again that the academy’s raison detre was to provide players for our first team?

That said, given his contractual situation, if he was refusing to sing one, getting around a million for him might be a decent move. I just hope we have a big sell on. We should be looking to ensure that in every one of these deals where we’re selling off all of our potential future stars.
