Of course your both right but the system at the moment has all the power with the players.

How many of this years squad are ex academy?

Anyone decent [apart from Sharp and we've had to buy him back twice] are playing for others.

I really have a problem with the academy and don't think its worth the effort. Personally I'd put the money into first team signings instead.

If you really feel so strongly against the academy then there is no point debating it. You are entitled to your opinion.

I think its worth noting that next years 4 first year Pros, Semple, Gilmoor, Hallam & Ty Smith have all had a chance to leave the club in the last 18 months and earn far more money than they get with us.
They have been at the club since 8 years old and follow the Blades home and away when their own fixtures allow and don't want to play for anyone else, hence accepting far less wages than the majority of first year pros with other clubs. That for me shows plenty of commitment to want to play for our club.

That said, if the SUFC put a value on their heads and a club comes in and offers it, then the club will sell. So as far as young players are concerned you are wrong to assume they have all the power...... They don't.

As I said, your both right with the points made.

I'd just like to see kids coming out of the academy with a burning desire to make 300 first team appearances for the Blades as their first goal not the 100K/week contract with any club.

Trouble is most of us would play for the pigs for 100K/week.

What you don't realise is these lads do have a burning desire to play for the club and make 300+ appearances and Larky is dead right about bigger clubs and signing for less money, I know for definite that one of the ones who has signed pro forms is being tracked by probably the biggest club in this country for sure and arguably in Europe....Football is no longer anything other than a business Grumpy when the offer suits the club these boys are on their way whether they like it or not don't be nieave enough to think otherwise

This is where I have an issue. The richer clubs get richer the others either stand still or get poorer.

I can only give you the case for 4 young pros that I know of, and fair credit to them they could have already moved for more money !!

When the life changing money comes along I don't know anyone who would not secure his and his families life by moving.....

Football has moved on from a player playing 300 games for one club. I think this is the amount of money in the game now rather than be an academy issue.

I really hope that the Blades are their driving desire. Be nice if the board could match them and not cash in at the first opportunity.

As I've said your both right but why can't their be a different way of doing it?

If I could make 20K playing for the Blades or 100K for the Pigs then without hesiatation I would stay. Unlike Thatcher, I believe that the word enough does exist.

Unfortunately, if your club looks to pocket a few million then the choice isn't down to you.

Unfortunately I've never had say two years earning 20K/week so have no idea what my bank balance would look like if the 100K/week offer came in but suspect what I would do would piss off Grumpy Blade somewhat.
