Leeds United have agreed a deal with Sheffield United to sign defender Alan Wright on a month-long loan.

The 35-year-old is due at Thorp Arch on Thursday morning to complete the formalities of the switch and will become caretaker manager John Carver's first signing.

John said: "Alan comes with a wealth of experience, he has made well over 500 appearances, mostly in the Premier League.

"He's got a good left foot, he's got good energy, and he's tenacious. He will attack and go forward, but primarly he is a defender."

The experienced defender has made a handful of appearances for Sheffield United - his last outing was at Arsenal on September 23 - and his previous clubs include Blackpool, Blackburn and Middlesbrough.

He also enjoyed an eight-year stint at Aston Villa where he made over 300 senior appearances.

Alan will join up with the squad on Thursday and will provide competition for Stephen Crainey.

"Stevie has done well, but he's not been under any pressure," added the caretaker boss.

"We needed to bring someone in who can put pressure on him.

"We had Alan watched in the reserves last week and we'll have a look at him in training at the end of week, and we'll be able to tell pretty quickly where his fitness is at."
