I know .faint hope ....pity they did not hang on for 2 minutes more last week but...they are in free scoring vein....I know we got 5 v county but they got 3 ..did they score 4 the week before.....ok, heir defence may leak but they are scoring goals at the mo and Beavon is a goalscorer!!!
Faint oh s faint....

Recently they drew games v's MK Dons, Stevenage & Carlisle, and lost by 1 goal away to Charlton.

I know the grunters are favourites, but I don't think saturday is a foregone conclusion at all.

What is a forgone conclusion is that we will fail to beat exeter. but that might be alright if we get a draw...

Still time for a sting in the tail for this season. Pigs should really beat Wycombe but they've not had that shock result in the run-in to the season... yet!

Not quite over yet.

Think I would be completely resigned to it if it weren't for the fact that Wycombe do score goals, which is better than trying to get a 0-0 draw. They will go for it to try and give their fans something.

Even if we have to go the play off route, we must try and keep clean sheets and stop chasing games!!! UTB

£50 on the pigs should sort it.

That's a good idea. If my previous betting history is anything to go by then me chucking a few quid on them is guaranteed to fuck them up.

I'll be having £87 on the pigs for second automatic spot, the blood money I won on Saturday on pigs to win at Brentford and United not to win against Stevenage.

Now that we've mentioned it, I'll stick some cash on them to beat Wycombe. If they do win then bonus for me but if my previous is anything to go by then they're guaranteed to draw at most!

Have you checked the odds? I was going to bet on Wednesday, but they were 1/4.

When did Wycombe last win? Their form is awful and they are already relegated. They are shipping goals and their manager has just slammed his defence. Sure, I guess the pressure is off but they are wank.

The only way that Wednesday will not win is if they monumentally fuck up. Unfortunately I just cannot see that. They have been clinical under Jones and I expect them to see it out professionally. We can live in hope that Wycombe frustrate them and go in front and see how the massive crowd reacts. It would have been nice if we were playing first and we won and put the pressure on. See how 30 odd k Piggies deal with the pressure and whether their team is up to.

Still, stranger thngs have happened and I'll be at Exeter praying to god, allah, ibrahim, those 3000 hindui gods, (.....fuck me I'll travel to North India and kiss the Dalai Lama's feet if things go our way on Sat-di) that they fuck it up and we take advantage.

Sense from Ollie!!!

We need to win. The last thing we want is to come off having drawn and find out Wendy cocked up as well...

The only way I can see it happening is if we are 2-0 or more up at half time and Wednesday are goalless. That could see panic start to seep in in S6....

The only other way is if we're drawing on 88 minutes and Wednesday are a goal up. Premature celebrations at Hillsborough where Wednesday take their foot off the gas allowing Wycombe score a 91st minute equaliser from United-bound Beavons. We score an Antonio-esque 99th minute winner - the game having been delayed by 10 minutes owing to the sighting of a Speedo-clad Olle causing mass disturbances in the crowd - at Exeter to send us up.

You heard it here first.

I think any scenario which sees us up, may cause panic at Hillsborough. Psycology does strange things.

Conversely if we are goalless, and wendy are losing at HT, we may start to panic...

Whilst not pinning all my hopes on Wycombe the promotion race is definitely not cut and dried.

Last time the pigs played in front of a sizable crowd at Swine Cottage (excluding the Derby?) Sure it was when they were relegated against Palace, a game they needed to win and they choked (with hilarious consequences).

With all the grunters that have crawled out from under ancient stones and long forgotten arcane cupboards whose to say they are not going to get on their players backs if we are a goal up after 20 and they have a bad start? We all know the atmosphere at Hillsborough is generally fairly flat and they seem to boo even more indiscriminately than us? Also whilst Wednesday are an effective side they aren't world beaters, maybe their unbeaten run is due to come to an end? Its also worth bearing in mind they've been chasing us since January, how will they cope when its in their hands?

I think we will win at Exeter - the pressure is off, nowt to lose now, we can play our game and will have around 2,000 die hard Blades cheering the side on. I'm going down to Exeter expecting nothing but you never know, by next week people might look back on the Stevenage game as a hard fought vital point rather than the day we chucked promotion away?

I will bare my arse on the town hall steps if Wendy don't win this Saturday. And Photograph the event, Nobby Stiles and all, for proof.

Quoted for posterity.

Foxy & Linz - can i ask that if alco doesn't fulfill his end of the promise here, a comical name change to "I-love-Wednesday" would be appropriate???

Maybe we all need to promise to make similar sacrifices in an effort to placate the football Gods. They all have to mean a real personal sacrifice. For my part, I will promise to post on here a small piece about "the good things Thatcher did for this country" if we go up on Saturday.

Agreed.

I'll try and post something about why joining the Euro would be good for Britain...

Darren: to satisfy the football Gods, small in this case would mean 500 words minimum. I for one won't accept 'nothing' as a "small piece" :)

I'd come up with 10 reasons why it would be good for Wednesday to win the playoffs.

Not good enough - it has to be personal to you - not something that is common to all United fans - the gods would dismiss that with a haughty sniff. Try again.

Incidentally, can someone keep a record of what people are promising to do, to ensure that performance ensues should the unlikely happen....

Most people who know me are aware I find the taste of egg vile, enough so to induce vomit

If the blades go up I will tuck into a fried egg sandwich, plate of scrambled eggs, omlette etc, whilst hungover from celebrating the promotion, just to make the experience even more nauseous.

this thread should be a good enough record, as you can`t edit your posts...

I am still ready to eat my hat if Wycombe win.

Also pressure was off for Colchester the other week against Wednesday and they managed a draw.

Thing is Wednesday have not been playing well but have still managed to win somehow.
