Okay so we are now calling terrorist freedom fighters.

Those that blow up the busses in London, freedom fighters, bloke that just attacked the synagogue was a freedom fighter, bin laden that well known freedom fighter.
Well technically a terrorist is a freedom fighter

Did you miss the second bit where I suggested actually looking at the photo? Maybe do that, and then try thinking for yourself.
Ive seen the picture when he first posted it. And it was in bad tatse, even more so for pulling his children into it. That is bad parenting and irresponsible.

Maybe try realise that many of true word is spoken in 'jest'

Why is it? I’ve lived under a number of governments I’ve ideologically despised but have accepted the principle that I was born and live here and pay taxes accordingly.
Aa a professional footballer he has options and freedoms the average person would struggle to have.Yet he chose to play in a country he disagrees with. Bit like when Henderson went to Saudi and lots of people thought less of him because of it and how it clashes with his strongly held views.

He was born in this country, same as me and, I assume, you. He might not like the fact of the partition, but I expect that to go in his lifetime if not mine, and it’s still his country. I think you’re doing more than a bit of reaching here.

He wasn't born in England 🤷‍♂️ he's spent the majority of his career playing here and seems to have a major issue with the place. A weird choice. All for a payday.

The people that chunter about his anti poppy stance are the same fuckers that stumble into the ground half pissed, swearing and singing every year whilst others are showing respect for the fallen with a minutes silence. Pot, kettle and all that. He's entitled to his opinion whether you or I agree with it or not.
A lot of them will also have robustly defended Anel’s decision not to wear a rainbow armband because of his beliefs. Thick.

But he is, of course, not British. Not only that, working in the country he seemingly hates.

That being said I agree completely about him being ultimately fine to decide to do what he wants.

He was born and has lived his whole life in the United Kingdom which, apart from Scotland, has the same tax code throughout. Straw man argument, I’m afraid. Will you be leaving the country if a government does anything at complete odds with your beliefs? There’s nothing stopping you.

According to our government, he is British. Where has he ever said he hates England?

If I had a career that globally could pick me up at the drop of a hat and it was an extremely sore subject like it is for some Irishmen absolutely yes without a seconds hesitation.

You could leave anyway. Anyone can. Ok, it’s a bit harder since Brexit, but there would actually be nothing stopping you apart from the same failure to back up your beliefs that you’re accusing McClean of.

Well I don't have the huge issue he does. If I did then it's another story! He's a sell out in my view. Some of the more aggressive attitudes to him are bizarre though.

He's a professional footballer that's his job , l would say most players have political opinions of some kind, many of them not agreeing with the policies of the day, the on going genocide in Gaza which by and large the government of the uk are supporting by supplying arms to Israel, being one. Mcleans are born of a real lived experience growing up in Derry which quite understandably coloured his thoughts on the conduct of British soldiers in Derry during the troubles. The wearing of the Poppy for him would be a complete denial of that lived experience. He has explained why he doesn't wear one many times.
The Poppy fascism that has developed in the last number of years that somehow not wearing one is unpatriotic is actually a contradiction of what those brave men and women fought against which was the right to free will.

Always makes me laugh that English football fans in general (so not singling people out on here) have such a big problem with him and label him a Ira lover but as far as I’ve seen he hasn’t said anything in support of the Ira.

Yet, they will gladly cheer on Declan Rice for England and not say a single word against him or boo him and yet he has said things in support of the IRA, yes he was younger and silly so shouldn’t be hung for that but end of the day one out of the two of them has said things in support of the Ira in the past and that person will be England captain at some point in the near future. Always baffles me that one.

If people don’t like him because of poppygate that is their right, as is his right not to wear one.

This is going to upset the plastic patriots…..

So do you man the gates with a breathalyser every Rememberance Sunday, to check your 'facts'?

I dislike him and all he stands for, and I completely respect the sanctity of our Remembrance tradition, so please don't make sweeping statements, based on exactly no evidence at all.

No matter who the player is, "Flicking a boot" at someone is hardly violent conduct is it ffs?

Kicking or attempting to kick a player in what sounds like an off the ball incident has pretty much always been a red card offence. Or are you still getting flashbacks to Beckham in 98?

Again, what does he stand for? I dislike him based on what I've seen on the pitch not on his political leanings or refusal to wear a poppy.

Google 'Bloody Sunday 1972.'

It took place in Derry, hometown of James McLean. Let me know if the British soldiers that carried out that attack fall into the same category as those you listed above.

Then read up on the Great Famine.

The uniform doesn't exonerate them. The Irish didn't ask to be invaded and murdered in the thousands / millions.

If the Russians were to arrive on these shores I'd expect you and your mates to arm yourselves and fight back...
