I just think Peck has more to his game. Arblaster is a very steady footballer, but if we’re supposedly playing a higher pressing game this season, and trying to get it forward more, that will suit Peck much more given his better stamina, more bite and forward thinking play. Arblaster doesn’t look to have the speed to play this type of game and is more of a sideways passer who just keeps things moving. Just my opinion, of course.

Fair play, everyone's entitled to their own opinion and football can be quite subjective but I have to say I disagree with this.

I'd agree Peck maybe has more bite / stamina but his lack of goal involvement shows he's not very "forward thinking". 2 assists and 0 goals in 42 appearances is a poor return for a CM in a team that accumulated 92 points. In comparison Blaster got more goal involvements despite only making 12 appearances before his injury.

I think Peck is great at what he does. He still has some work to do on his positioning and can be a bit naive at times leaving us wide open, but for a breakout season overall I think he did himself proud.

For what it's worth Arblaster ranked in the 94th percentile for chances created per 90 mins last season. Its a fairly small sample size of 12 games, but shows when he did play, he was one of the best in the league in his position at creating chances. I just think he has that rare ability of being able to turn on the ball under pressure and move forward. Not to dissimilar to Adam Wharton at Palace.

Here is proof that Arblaster is the more forward thinking of the two.

Peck is a very sideways and backwards safe passer where as Arblaster is far more creative.

These stats are averaged out to a per 90 and then compared to other midfielders.

Arblaster scored more than 83% of midfielders in his minutes on the pitch and created more chances than 94% of midfilders.

Peck on the other hand only created more chances than 43% of midfielders and scored more than 0% as he didn’t score all season

Also had the higher match rating of 7.5 v 6.92 on average.

Beat me to it by seconds

You can see why Brighton were all over Arblaster pre-injury.

His stats / numbers have him with the potential to be a real top level complete midfielder

Both starting for me, but in terms of preference, a fully recovered and fit i is Blaster gets the nod

I believe Blaster is definitely the attack minded player and can pick a pass that turns defence into attack in an instant. Not sure Peck shows that in his general play?

Arblaster is definitely a more penetrative passer. Peck lacks the same incisiveness and ability to turn with the ball, but could develop there with experience. If he learns when to turn and go forward he'll add millions to his value. He should also be able to score more goals, more than Arblaster. Should try to model himself on Lampard a bit

Peck not scoring last season wasn't for the lack of trying. His 39 shots without scoring was the highest in the division (next up Ben Shaef with 32) while his -2.1 goals vs xG was joint 4th worst behind Regan Slater (-3.3; 1 goal vs 4.3xG), Brenden Aaronson (-2.3; 9 goals vs 11.3xG) and Gonçalo Franco (-2.2; 2 goals vs 4.2xG).

People are only comparing because someone said they thought Peck was the more progressive of the two but the fairly unanimous opinion and the stats suggest the total opposite.

What is fantastic is that they both have each others weaknesses covered by the others strengths and the statistics back that up. I say weaknesses but couldn’t think of a better word as neither of them have any gaping holes in their skill sets for this level.

They absolutely could be fabulous midfield 2 in a 4231 or part of a 433 with Hamer roaming around with them.

Crazy take on Arblaster. I don't think I've seen anyone be so wrong on a midfielders abilities and styles since we signed Brian Howard.
