A few people on here have said how it is a disgrace that we have been in League 1 for 6 yrs....and it is. However, and I don't want to count chickens before they are hatched, but assuming we go up this season (whether champs or not) would you rather?

We had gone up the Ched season with those players and a team that couldn't play once he was gone and Danny Wilson as manager?

or

Gone up now with what seems like a great management team and a team that plays good football and has the old Blades passion back?

Then for me, both good teams but it would have been great to beat the Pigs to promotion. Hopefully we can beat them back to the Premiership if all goes well.

UTB!

Edit: I am more than happy with the team & manager we have now.

Now for me, I like the cut of Wilder's Jib. I like how spiky he is and how he turned it around quickly. Plus the team has bollocks.
Some things are worth waiting for!

Then. Because the promised investment would have materialized and our game would have changed and we could think Liverpool.

Etc

pommpey

5 years is a big time difference. Let's have a compromise...

Promoted with Wilder and this team in 2014.

There's no doubt it tastes sweeter now than it would have then though - even if we would've beaten Wednesday to promotion. That's the natural affect of 4 seasons of failure, boredom and shite.

The 2012 team was more than good enough to go up and compete, but the manager was nowhere near good enough and that would've made more difference, short term at least.

Now because if we had gone up we would probably not have taken on CW and AK if we were Championship after we sacked DW. And I've got to say.......I really, REALLY like CW and AK!

Would've been sweet to beat the Wendy's though!

Different times, different situation. I said at the time of the relagation that it would do us good to come down long term as we needed to clear the decks and start again, shame it's taken 6 years ! Had Ched not, well........, that team were good enough to compete in the Chumpionship IMO and at the time, we probably would have had money to strengthen further. However, it's a different ball game now and there's no doubt that as a club, we are in a much better 'place' than we were 5 years ago in terms of unity, fan support, feel good factor etc.

So, in hindsight, I'd say despite the 'pain' of the last 5 years, we are probably better returning now than under Wilson.

Now.

Forget about the past. What's done is done.

This. A million times over.

No point in pining over shit that hasn't happened.

If you get messed about by some woman a few years back, you're not going to wait until you're happy nowadays and look back and try and compare. It's just a recipe for misery. Obviously UNITED aren't quite the same as that, but the principle is the same. What's done is done, let's focus on what IS.

Difficult one for me.

Had we gone up at the first time of asking would McCabe have made enough money available to compete because the Prince didn't come on board until season 3?

Also the side we had in our first season was predominantly the same one we were relegated with, and while there was some quality in there good enough for the Championship such as Lowton, Quinny, Williamson, Chedwyn etc (don't forget we'd have probably sold Ched in the JTW had he not had the court case hanging over him plus wasn't he going to be out of contract anyway?) - so for me it still wouldn't have been a given that we'd have stayed up.

Impossible to say. There are so many different scenarios leading from us going up then. We might have stayed up, we might have struggled, sacked Wilson and got someone like Dyche, or just some random 'right man right time' manager. We could have got a complete idiot again who dropped us into more shit as he took us down with a huge wage bill. KM might have sold the club to some dodgy owners and we could be like Cov now. Basically owt could have happened in five years, good or bad.
You want a big what if? What if Hulse hadn't had broke his leg?

What would you rather ask?:

A.) a shit, leading question which encourages people to agree with you or;
B.) an amazing, non-leading question which doesn't do any such bollocks.

Then, because The Championship has strengthened beyond all recognition in the past five years, we could have been part of that, when we go up next season it will be into a much stronger and more difficult league to compete in that it would have been in 2012.

Then. Losing out to the pigs in the way we did was horrendous and has seen us fall behind for 5 years. We now have the chance of starting next season on a level playing field (though still not financially). If we'd gone up, we might have got big investment and maybe been in the prem now and they might still be stuck in league 1. We could have continued to rule the roost locally as we had done for the previous 12 years. The last 5 years have been awful and saw us falling out of love with the game for a while.

Then.

Who's to say we wouldn't be 7 clear at the top of the Championship with Wilder in charge now had we gone up five years ago?

Anything could have happened. Clough or Adkins could have taken us up to the Prem by now

Then, if we had Wilder at the helm at some point in between. If Now is the only option to have Wilder in charge, then Now. I have a real good feeling about the next few years with him in charge :)

Every relegated club wants an instant promotion not to languish in the 3rd tier of football for the period we have.

I'm enjoying this season and think we have a better team as to back then.
Some of the football this team plays is awesome and kind on the eyes, so much better than the hoof that got us relegated (I'll make an exception for the Oldham game)
