I’ve seen the desire to win a trophy expressed many times on here over the years. I would love that too, even if it was the second rate League Cup. I first watched us in 1968, so if I’m ever going to see it, it will have to be soonish.

But although it was last done before any of us were born, the club has won a League Championship and four FA Cups. One thing it has never done is qualify for Europe.

Of course, I would love us to do both things. But if I could only have one in however many years I have left, I think it would be a European adventure.

Which would you choose?

NB - by “trophy” I do not include a playoff final or any league title other than the PL.

I would argue the best chance we will ever have winning a trophy and getting Europe is the conference league

Finish 8th I think you get in from the prem

Trophy by far, that gets you into Europe anyway doesn't it?

Qualifying for Europe could mean an 8th place finish and a European game against some Faroese salmon farmers in a Conference League play off, not quite the same as lifting a trophy at Wembley.

Torshavn away ole ole

I’d love to see us in Europe, but I’d also love to see us win a trophy. Partially because the latter could very well lead to the former as others have pointed out, but also because it would be one less thing our neighbours could have over us, and watching them have to make even more mental gymnastic leaps to assure themselves that they’re the bigger club would be hilarious. 😆 reckon some of their heads could explode.

Living here in Cork and supporting our local club as well as the mighty blade's I've seen city play in Europe on many occasions, including teams like bayern Munich, Red star Belgrade, galatasary, malmo, sparta prague, legia warsaw, nantes and many more. Obviously win a trophy or finish high enough in the league and your in, it's great to see these team's and doe's bring a new dimension to games, it's an embarrassment that United have never played in Europe to be fair

I would love an away day in the Faroes

My favourite thing about football is the individual moments that stay with you. The feeling you get when you're sharing joy with 1000s of people, regardless of the competition it's in. I think the celebration at winning a trophy would be one of those moments

Understand the question, but it smacks of do you want to win the lottery or a rollover lottery.

For context, I loved going to watch Hibernian at Malmo and Brondy, but infintesimally insignificant against 21/5/16.

I think it depends on the trophy and the competition. I would definitely take an FA Cup win over a Conference League campaign. But I would probably also take a Europa League campaign over a League Cup win.

Although lifting the second most historic trophy in England would have been nice. But sadly we bottled it.

Ahead of both of those options for me would be that of becoming an established Premier League club capable of giving a good game to the historically more successful ones and beating many of the lesser ones .

Both Villa and Forest have shown that this can be achieved , since in very recent times both were generally inferior to us but now giving their supporters results and a brand of football they can be proud of in arguably the best league in the world .

I know it’s a tough task but they and others have shown that with the right approach , it is one which is achievable .

And all it took was a few hundred million!

Technically, we are already in Europe - we even played Cardiff and Swansea this season so I'm going for shiny trophy and an open bus top tour/party around Sheffield to which the fans of our neighbours would all be invited with their plus 20s.

Trophy for me - assuming it’s just the League, FA Cup or League Cup.

Europe would be great but it could be anything in theory from a Champions League campaign taking in some trips to your Nou Camps, your Westfalen Stadions etc or something resembling an Anglo Italian cup tie in Bulgaria with the return leg at the lane in front of 12,000….worth binning off a trophy for?

As an aside I always wonder how people manage to afford to watch their side away in Europe regularly must be £500 minimum per game. Everyone’s circumstances are different but I guess you’d be wondering if you go to the first one or two or save yourself for the latter rounds that we might not get to.

Couldn't tell you any of the FA Cup or League Cup winners over the last 10 years, so I'll have to go for a European place.

If I say that I'd like us to win the Champions League. Would that break the poll?
