Hypothetical conundrum to start the week.
We seem desperate for an additional striker with Joao having been linked on occasion.
Wednesday seem long on strikers but woeful in terms of first choice defenders especially with experience.
Now, setting aside potential cash differentials, would you consider a swap Stearman for Joao?:
- They are similar in terms of match chances at their current club. Joao was selected behind Nuhiu and Forestieri alongside Fletcher. Strearman is marginally behind Basham and Egan though form or opposition could change that.
- If Wilder gets Johnson and Coutts returns from injury then the bench will have 2 strikers, keeper, Coutts, Woodburn or some combination involving Duffy. That then leaves 2 spots for Leonard, Stearman, Stevens. Stearman can’t play LWB and Leonard can play CB. So his place in the matchday XVIII may be under threat.
- With Hooper soon to return and likely in the XI or bench at the least, that leaves Joao in a similar situation to Stearman - he could be in the XI on form or he could be out of The XVIII entirely with Matias around the first team, Fletcher and also Winnall to return.
So who do we need most? Would you swap Stearman for Joao?
I’m torn. I like Stearman and can see plenty of scenarios he may pick up games. A potential first choice striker with pace would certainly be a good fit for us.
For my part, losing Stearman would make me feel vulnerable defensively so I’d probably not go ahead with this and look elsewhere.
But how would you approach the scenario if Joao was a valid option but the only way was to give up Stearman?
