If Brooks hadn’t declared his allegiance to Wales prior to last nights game, do you think that he could have been called up by England last night? Being a star of Toulon last summer and looking at the other players that Southgate called up, it wouldn’t have surprised me if he had been. Especially with the lack of depth in quality left footed players.

If Oxlaide Chamberlin can play for England, so can I! £35 million. Would you swap Brooks for him?

ITs a very good point and one I've been debating with a couple of my mates who are Welsh.

Personally, I'm not sure he would. And if he did, it'd have been some fag end game time which would have been no benefit other than for his agent!

By the start of next season, there's every chance he'll have played 5 or 6 times for Wales (one V France in front of a full house) and therefore Wales will give him more time.

From a Blades perspective this is ideal for us, as it means Tufty can keep him back for the games where we need him.

not convinced he would at 20 years of age.

The team that went to the Toulon tournament was in effect England's 2nd 11 at U20 level, so he would still be behind the kids that won the U20 world cup.

Anyway, a management that plays Henderson and Dier in centre mid want their head examining.

Going off on a tangent - Christian Erikson was magnificent last night for Denmark - he must have been watching Duffy ;)

Not a chance. United aren't fashionable enough. DB has made the right choice in picking Wales. If he'd been daft enough to go for England, he may have got picked if enough of the 'snowflakes' decided they couldn't have been bothered playing in a meaningless friendly and faked a bogus injury.

We've been here many times before (about every two years in fact.) Some pundits are getting all giddy about England playing out two boring 0-0 friendlies played by players that don't want to pick up injuries mid-season. In Russia, the proper teams - Germany, Brazil, France, Spain etc. will get serious - as they usually do.

Oh, and Southgate is pretty clueless.

Get with the times FB, Southgate's evolved from this.

Into Livermore and Dier!!!!!

Eriksen has always been magnificent. He’s been my favourite Prem player for years - only Lallana comes near him for me. Of course, he was the sole reason that we didn’t get to Wembley for a League Cup final - him and Louis Reed!

The question is, does Brooks tick one or more of the following boxes:

- Play for a top half PL team or one that has recently had silverware?
- Had transfer fees paid in excess of £15m?
- Had a brain transplant?
- Been hyped beyond all reason?

If one or more can be ticked and you are English you are likely to get a game.

in a word, no

not because of him or how he plays, but the way the England National team is run, which is shockingly inept, favouring names over reputation and Form, its been that way for years, cant see it changing soon, the media is not as Toxic as it once was to the man in the hot seat but still pressure to play Names, and most of the time that leads to square pegs in round holes.

No chance and why would he.

I keep repeating it but football hardly exists outside the PL.
Might seem unfair but it’s true. The standard in the CC is perceived to be much much lower than PL standard.

So until Brooks impresses against PL standard defences he won’t even get considered, it’s always been the case,

If England called up a 20 year old kid who had played a dozen matches for a different championship club, we'd be laughing at the absurdity of it.

It's only the lack of depth Wales have got which means Brooks got called up for them. He wouldn't have been called up by England, quite rightly.

I agree with you to a degree but as much as I think that Southgate is the wrong man he appears to be making some changes. The fact that Harry has just played 2 games in a row, at the expense of Smalling, Rooney has gone, Livermore plays for West Brom. He doesn’t select Walcott, Ox etc but has given youth a chance. The proof though will be next year but there are a couple of positives.
Players will generally come from the top 6 as these clubs buy the best players. Expect to see Harry at Liverpool or Arsenal next year and then we can say the same about him.
Anyone than Jordan bloody Henderson though

Will be interesting to see how the squad will shape up and if he will keep the changes made or revert to type because its the world cup, as you say more positive signs than the last few years, and changing tactic and approach, but I have a feeling a few old familiar faces will creep in closer to WC 2018.

Also it’s absurd when you think this superstar can’t even get a starting place in a team that’s just come up from league 1.
Journeymen Duffy and Clarke are keeping Brooks out of the side.
On paper it doesn’t sound great does it?

I'm not convinced about the familiar faces. Most of them are likely to be injured like they always are. Sturridge, Walcott, Welbeck, Wilshere, Ox, bunch of sicknotes.

I think unfortunately for the World Cup Squad, there will be a few players who get in on name not form, its the English way.

Can't argue with that, historically it's been the case. I'm hoping the 'yes man' grows a pair and says 'I'm doing it my way, if you don't like it, sack me and pay me off'. Stranger things have happened. Or maybe Wilder has just made me optimistic about football generally.

I think that is more the issue, Mr Wilder as wiped the cynicism from our eyes for football, but I have to say where England are concerned I still have some, but no longer any for the blades! :)
