I doubt he would.

Maybe there's the differences they couldn't agree on.

Clough hated everyone remember! ;)

In all seriousness, I don't think Adkins is a yes man as such, but I think the timing is awful. Why couldn't this business be done earlier in the summer if the offers were there?

Adkins doesn't have the bargaining power with the board, yet. In many ways he's still in his probationery period, played two games. Clough would've no doubt built up allies on the board as well as detractors, but he could use the cup record as a little bit of a bargaining tool "look what happens when you back me" and "if we get players of brayfords quality, look at the backing we get"

I'm not sure how much of a say Adkins had in the signing of Billy Sharp, but it looks like a McCabe move, a big name to get bums on seats (see Warnock DVD from 2004/05).

The problem is that we need a side capable of winning games at present we don't have this and we've just lost our main goal scoring and creating asset.

Adkins has other big problems to sort, rightly or wrongly he's only just realising that we need to sort the back four and I suspect that this business has been carried out not behind his back, but whilst he's unaware of the real quality that Murphy possesses and whilst he's focussed on sorting out the defence and central midfield.

We all know that Murphy is a confidence player, so perhaps after last weekend, Murphy was looking for that support or reassurance that he'll be played where he's best.

Either way, the board have signed off on this and got the money in. Right now, Adkins has a weaker squad because of this.

Why are we selling our best players to Championship clubs? Because Clough couldn't get us promoted! Can't build while ever we are in League One!

Oh and sad thing for Adkins (which he'll be accutely aware) is that it's also reduced the chance of success and if things aren't right on track by October, his job will be on the line...

Can build in League 1 but you just have to avoid selling your best players but even if we got promoted our club probably would still have sold Murphy.

It was a bit tongue in cheek but Adkins has had a chance to show strength to the board (and supporters) and will surely have agreed during his recruitment that he doesn't want to lose his best players. Unless of course Adkins doesn't see Murphy as a huge loss.

Funny i thought that . Clough would have told one and all , to fuck off . Murphy you are not going anywhere , and if you asked to talk to Brighton , you will train with the kids until your contract runs out:eek:

As Adkins taken on , more than he can chew , or is there method in his madness. I think its the latter.

I think it's a bit of both. He was perhaps told that things were rosy, taken it with a pinch of salt, but believes he knows how to sort it...

Whether he gets the time to do it is another thing. Given our record of sackings in the last 10 years he won't get the time... Which makes it even more crucial to keep the best players
