The thread is entitled "Worst we've been"

If you believe that we are absolute worldbeaters that have an occasional blip every now and then don't read it

Losing to fucking Yeovil in the play-off semi finals.

That has to rank as the worst when you consider at the time they hadn't even been in the Football League for more than a decade and we won the first leg match. All we had to do was go to their place and get a draw at worst which you would think a half decent Blades squad could manage regardless of manager.

Although under various managers there has been some shit matches in this league and the list is getting longer. At least two shit matches have been this season!

I didn't start following the club on the promise of being world-beaters. We've been shit far more than we've been good actually. It just doesn't fill me with humourless existential blackness and "we're all doomed" crap.

So you've changed your view from your original post from 'Everybody' to 'some clubs'?

I think it's pretty obvious what was meant by my statement

Fans that choose to support a non league club accept the clubs position but dream about becoming a League club one day
There must be at least two dozen clubs that have achieved that, some of them have become very good league clubs rising through the divisions.

So, in relative terms even those clubs have been more successful than Sheffield United

As for clubs of comparable size, there is no comparison, every single one of them without exception regardless of where they are at the moment has outperformed us

I would say blades 0 Southend 3 at home , 3 down in 12 mins . But we've turned it around now and are having a good season so instead I'm going to say losing 1-0 away to Yeovil in the last game of the season when Yeovil was already relegated where if we won heavily and results went Our way we would have finished in top 2

Yes that was definitely up there as perhaps our worst ever ! No shots ,no commitment no goals no promotion !

Stunned that no one has mentioned us losing 3-0 at home to Stoke under Robson. Stephen Quinn had a daisy cutter that the keeper comfortably saved in the last minute, pretty sure that was the only shot we had on target. It produced the most sarcastic of cheers I've ever heard at the Lane.

At half-time, they had some wankers come out and perform some awful Christmas song with some choreographed dance moves to a chorus of boo's from a bunch of pissed off Blades. It was hysterical.

It was pretty obvious from your original statement, yes, you thought everybody's club is better than ours and it's absolutely awful supporting our club, that's what I took from reading it the first time and having read it again I took the same from it.

You then change your view so I point that out and even when we are playing well and getting good results your on about other clubs from non league been better than us, for me, that is utter garbage.

You're enhancing figures to support what seems to be a hatred of Sheff Utd, I won't read that sort of crap on here and say nothing, JJB.

Fair enough wizadry
Absolutely awful may have been a bit strong
But you know what it is, trying to make a point and all that.

I stick by my view though that all clubs of a reasonable size have had better times than us

And that's what makes being a Blade so good and in it for the long run so to speak because if or when we win something it will be the best party ever. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that shite. Lighten up mate. :)

I remember playing Doncaster a few years ago. Possibly the most boring match I've ever been to, don't think any side had a shot on target.

Also a special mention to those of us that travelled to Yeovil on a Tuesday night for a dire 1-0 defeat a couple of years ago as well
Though I wasn't there, the Yeovil match was the one I thought could rival the Bury game. Another game in which the players were allergic to the oppositions net

A post on another thread got me thinking - what are our worst matches since been down here ?

Bury away seems to be the one from last year but there were loads last season - Shrewsbury home, Crewe away,

Going back further losing to Fleetwood at home, Crawley at home spring to mind.

Incidentally the pre match view from Adkins before Crewe away last year was when he lost me - talking up a shit side and how good they were when they'd not won in ages and were bottom.

Wilder is disappointed when we don't win clown Adkins and clough before set up not to lose.

Southend at home this season. 3-0 down after 20 minutes and i had to tell Brownie Jnr who was crying about it all and wanted to go home, that to tell me if he didn't want to come again that i would understand and i wouldn't take him. To his credit he said he still wanted to come to the United matches.

I actually don't remember which team over the last two years we have been worst against, they all seemed to blur into one nightmare of awfulness. As other posters said on a different thread many times we scored and I just about managed polite applause. The main reason I kept going was for the pub before the game

Jesus theres been loads. The curse of Crewe, losing 3-0 away, 1-0 away. For me the worst performance has to be Burton at home. When they announced 6 minutes of injury time, fans were booing as they didnt want to stay!

Will everyone who has a moan about poor performances this season, post Southend, please refer back to this thread. We have come a long, long way in a very short time.

Altrincham away 0v3 in Fa cup worst display ever , we were lucky to get nil .

Most of the 16 games under Martin Peters in the third division .
Started off mid table when he took over won 3 or 4 of those last 16 games .
Guess where it ended Don "fucking " givens :(
Wouldn't mind but started off so well winning 3-0 at Carlise .

It was bloody grim back then! I was at the Altrincham game, definitely the most abject performance I've seen by a Blades team.

I was also at the Carlisle game (what a journey that was!) and left with a few others convinced Peters was the man to take us back up. Boy did that come back and bite me on the arse!

stevenage away ranks as one of the worst ever, leaking 4
and the gillingham opening day takes some beating as a non starter

southend at home this season was down to 3 horrendous individual mistakes which ended the contest before half time

2-2 two days previous.

Moss Lane - Trusson could have got life for his great attempt at beheading the Altrincham player.

No waiting ten days for a replay back then.

The awful times at the Lane are truly truly truly abysmal.
Nobody ever does it quite as bad as United

Everybody else's good periods are always better than Uniteds supposed good periods as well

It really is fucking awful supporting this club to be honest, God knows why so many still do.
Quite amazing really

We are obviously a bunch of sado-masochists! At least were not a bunch of deluded truffle hunting piggy snortbeasts though eh!

I hated the 2-1 defeat at Southend in 1995 (?) because there was a brawl between pro and anti Bassett supporters in the away end and the stewards just stood there; laughing and watching initially, until they realised it was going to escalate. Yes, there have been many bad days but it makes the good ones sweeter and couldn't we concentrate on some positives for once? I'd gladly sit through 10 away days like Southend for the euphoria of beating Wednesday home and away, promotion under Warnock, Leicester 5-2 away, numerous cup semi finals, etc. I'm still 100% proud to be a Blade and always will be, despite some of the nonsense. No club and no supporters have a God given right and it's human nature to moan. I live in North London and Arsenal/Spurs fans never stop moaning but where are they? I'm taking my three sons up tomorrow and we can't bloody wait. Ok, we may get beat, we may not get promoted but we'll be back and always will be until the end. Here's to a better away day at Southend in the new year. Cheer up Blades!

Swindon away in the 2nd leg of the semi final.
Most pathetic opening 15 minutes of a game I've ever seen, with so much riding on it. Switched off after they went 3 nil up. God knows how we scored 5, fortunately they were only slightly less shit than us, which then showed as Preston gave them a good dicking in the final. Clough's final tactical masterclass with Alcock and McEveley at centre half, Christ.

The only bright spot was that this eliminated the prospect of yet another Wembley defeat.

I remember going to a night game while David weir was in charge and we cheered the stewards as they got the instructions over the tannoy, think it was the one where everybody went mental as Fabian brandy had a tame shot at the end of the first half..... never seen anything as bleak as that....not even under mother goose....

I also remember this, (the three nil drubbing at home to Stoke under Robson)
if memory serves we were three down after 10 minutes; the twats performing at half time were far more entertaining than the shit fest we'd just been served up!
