Just come back from holidaying in Crete (very nice since you ask) and after the woeful results v MKD and Rotherham, I have come to the conclusion that this is, indeed, the most woeful United team ever.

This is, in fact, our worst ever start to a season in the lower divisions - by some margin

79-80 P6 W3 D1 L2 F9 A7 pts 10
80-81 P6 W4 D0 L2 F10 A3 pts 12
81-82 P6 W3 D1 L2 F6 A5 pts 10
82-83 P6 W3 D1 L2 F8 A8 pts 10
83-84 P6 W4 D2 L0 F13 A4 pts 14
88-89 P6 W5 D0 L1 F22 A6 pts 15
11-12 P6 W5 D1 L0 F13 A3 pts 16
12-13 P6 W2 D4 L0 F10 A6 pts 10
13-14 P6 W1 D1 L4 F4 A10 pts 4

I think it was Tarquin who said that the early Wilson period is now looking like the golden years :-(

Extend backwards to the performances and results post Christmas last season and you get a fuller picture of how poor we are at creating and putting away chances. It has been painful to witness.

I know we have many weaknesses that have been documented but start with one decent striker please.

The thing is though that, under Wilson, we were still scraping results that kept us in contention for promotion. In other words, experienced manager Wilson could make something looking a bit like a silkish purse from a sow's ear. Rookies Morgan and Weir appear not to have a clue, both consistently maintaining relegation form,

I know what you're saying but I don't subscribe to it mainly being on Morgan / Weir's shoulders.

Wilson was probably unlucky in that we sold Blackman and replaced with Murphy who patently isn't up to the job. But the writing was on the wall well before he paid the ultimate price, our form and confidence had gone.

Weir could yet assemble the pieces we need. We need to return to replacing with better personnel, not worse.

Get a decent striker and let's see what happens

I have been consistantly saying for the past nine month that this present team is indeed the worst United have ever put out, no stats needed to prove the point all anyone needs to do is open their eyes. :(

Have to agree with UnitedBlade , the last couple of months under Wilson were dreadful and we weren't scraping results, creating chances or providing much entertainment. Not too disimilar to what we're playing like at the moment but I think it goes some way to showing how big a job Weir has on his hands to get this side playing again. There's just too many bad players on the books at the moment.

I'm still clinging on to the fact the Bournemouth were 4th bottom? at the end of October last season...

Ok, ok, it might be the worst United team ever but Chris Porter holds the ball up well.

So every cloud and all that.

I think Morgs probably has more clue than people have given him credit.

In the meeting, after the Yeovil game, I suspect that most of what he said is turning out to be correct. :(

People are far too impatient. We all know if we create the chances Porter can put them away at this level. Or the league below. Or the one below that. Give it time. Eventually we'll get to a level where he can score goals. Keep the faith.

Don't forget the 3 points v. Notts County was against ten men, and the point against Colchester resulted from a freak goalkeeping error.

So you see, it could be worse...

Then we have the defeat v. Burton and scraping a win on penalties v. the mighty Scunthorpe.

I see a pattern emerging...

What did he say ?

Wanted the removal of certain negative influences in the dressing room.

If that could be resolved, the club could then move forward. If it wasn't, the team would continue to regress.

Some issues have not, and perhaps more importantly could not be addressed this summer, and ultimately the team has continued its slide.

we were top of the league in february , so tables at any one point in time can be misleadingcan all look different in 3 games time

we are only 3 wins off a promotion place

Not bad going 6 games into the season.

blade too long - the eternal optimist
When will you realise that this team even with one or two loan signings have relegation running right through the middle like a stick of rock
Even our so called 'stars of the future' are very ordinary at this level
I have been very disappointed with Weir - he appears to be very naive and out of his depth and seems to believe by saying things will get better they will !
Sorry David, this is a poor poor side with very little talent, skill, heart, passion and belief - all ingredients needed to win promotion.
Leon Clarke is not the answer - now if you can unearth a Roy Race - Now you're talking !!

When we get tonked by Carlisle on Saturday we'll finally have less points than Southampton did in 2010/2011 so he might pipe down.

Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf (Arabic: محمد سعيد الصحافMuḥammad Saʿīd Al-Ṣaḥḥāf; born 1940) is a former Iraqi diplomat and politician. He came to wide prominence around the world during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, during which he was the Iraqi Information Minister under Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, acting as the spokesperson for the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party and Saddam's regime.
He is best known for his grandiose and grossly unrealistic propaganda broadcasts before and during the war, extolling the invincibility of the Iraqi Army and the permanence of Saddam's rule. His announcements were intended for an Iraqi domestic audience subject to Saddam's cult of personality and total state censorship, and were met with widespread derision and amusement by Western nationals and others with access to up-to-date information from international media organizations. In the US he was popularly known as Baghdad Bob, in the UK as Comical Ali, and in Italy as Alì il Comico.

prefer being likened to Churchill, BOMBED BATTERED BRUISED but we will prevail
not my fault theres a lot of pessimists at the club

once again 6 from 46 leaves 40, only 40 chances to get 3 points left

I'd like to call myself a realist BTL
You cannot get three points unless you win the game, to win the game you need to score at least one goal and keep a clean sheet - we seem to have difficulties doing either !
It's not tweaks we need to do it's wholesale changes !
The players we have struggle to do the basics
Wish for all you want BTL the reality is they're not good enough !

Darren, i think you are confusing your "facts".

It is the worst start in the lower leagues. But, it isn't the worst team ever. We'll still finish in the play offs

Not too disimilar to what we're playing like at the moment but I think it goes some way to showing how big a job Weir has on his hands to get this side playing again. There's just too many bad players on the books at the moment.

Wilson was sacked after the Crawley game on 9th April, so his last couple of months' results were:

9/2/13 A Shrewsbury W2-1
12/2/13 A Bury W2-0
16/2/13 H Colchester W3-0
23/2/13 A Bournemouth W1-0
26/2/13 H Orient D0-0
2/3/13 A Oldham W2-0
9/3/13 H MKD D0-0
16/3/13 A Stevange L0-4
30/3/13 A Tranmere W1-0
1/4/13 H Carlisle D0-0
6/4/13 A Walsall D1-1
9/4/13 H Crawley L0-2

So that's a record of P12 W6 D4 L2 pts 22 - verging on automatic promotion form.

If only we were failing to scrape results in a similar way now....

What's also worth noting is our away record in those last 2 Wilson months - P7 W5 D1 L1.

We have lost all our away games since Wilson left (with the exception of that 0-0 draw/win on penalties at Scunthorpe in the Mickey Mouse Trophy).

Teams can get into winning habits, just as they can losing habits. I still have a hope that once the corner is turned the wins will come. Strikers can have 'dry' spells and then go on a scoring run. I seem to recall that Brian Deane once went 9 games without scoring.

Clutching at straws perhaps?

But what's obvious from that sequence is 10 points from the last 8 games, no wins at home and 4 goals scored.

We've hardly looked like scoring in games since the end of February, that is the issue that hasn't been solved.

If we do have some money, I would start with a decent striker.
