Worst opening day?

If, Selles thinks that was a team capable of winning, I am very worried. When we are begging for JLT to come on, wow, how the mighty have fallen. Surely, it’s basic common sense, if you know a player (Anel) is not staying, you have a replacement lined up to come in asap. COH, Bettis and Selles' are at fault for this. If they insist on waiting for better players to become available, or penny pinch on transfer fee's, its not beyond the realms of possibility, that we could be rock bottom of the league, come the 1st of September.
Yes, regarding Anel we should have sat on the Feyenoord bid, got a new player sorted…Then let Anel leave.
Yesterday should have been his last game, with a shiny new centre back holding up a United shirt on the Monday.

exactly that typical united to sell a vital player without first bringing a replacement in its so naive i actually have high hopes for ruben selles here at the lane but boy these new owners have given him the responsibility they have to back him financially weve just sold 3 players for around 24m know we dont get that upfront but all of that should be spent on bringing 4 good players in 2 signings and 2 quality loans if not the club is heading for mid table mediocrity

I remember that Hereford result! I was abroad at the time and didn't find out about the result until the following day. Rest of the season turned out OK though so there is hope!!

We followed it up with a 1-0 win at Wigan, then a 1-0 win at home to Colchester, then two away defeats to Hull 1-2 and then Stockport 0-1. After 5 games we had 7 points and were in mid table.
It turned out alright in the end, but after those first 5 games the future looked far from rosey. Especially after what we had gone through in the previous 6 seasons. It just seemed like more of the same.
We were struggling up front. It was only after the return of Edwards that things really picked up. Him and the ever reliable Bob Hatton as a pair g were lethal.
After the event, it looks like we cruised to the title, but it wasn't like that at all. There were moments during that season when promotion looked far from assured. The later signing of Colin Morris was IMHO as crucial as the return of Edwards.
