In recent weeks I have been pleased to see some of our young players getting a chance. In fact I thought we should have taken this approach much sooner. Anything is better than having a team full of loan players.

Today we lost 4-0 to a very strong side. Listening to the radio we were played off the pitch. 39% possession and only one shot on target in the whole match.

I begining to worry that it will take years for our club to recover and build a new team and we will not get back to the championship for sometime.

Hope I am wrong.

Dont read much into it. Swansea are a top team playing great football. They will be a massive threat in play-offs and hopefully will depose of the scabs....they need the experience and hopefully he can build a team around those he believes are ready for first team footy.

I agree. I don't see an immediate return, but, with regards to the future. I think it looks good as we now have the core of homegrown Blades and hopefully no loanees.

How long were we in the Wilderness Years before?

I reckon at least three years in the 3rd Division before we move on.

Not sure which way though....

With you there. Cannot see us being much of a force next year.
Squad will be heavily pruned. Mid table, below Play offs is where I predict.
We will have some real home howlers as well as kids learn their trade.
Bleak outlook for several years I think

I so hope you are wrong. It's hard but we need to BELIEVE.
It's going to be an interesting summer.

I think if this time next year we don't have an asterisk alongside our name denoting a deduction of 15 points we'll have done well.

Most blades fans don't realize that League 1 will only do us good. It will help us build a new, good and solid team up that will send us right back to the NPower Championship. But a team as big as us should not be in League 1.
Kevin Mccabe has caused it all to go wrong. Constantly changing managers, getting rid of quality players etc have all played a big part in this. The moment where Kevin Blackwell left is the key moment where League 1 was definatly going to become a reality.
What's the point in going through all your pre-season games, signing new players and sorting out all your plans for the campaign for Kevin Mccabe to then get rid of Blackwell three games into the season. It just doesn't make sense. Did Mccabe think this was going to help the club start pushing up the table?! It clearly effected all the players mind-sets and really made the team lose concentration.
But then to appoint Gary Speed as manager! That was the most stupid mistake yet! This is a guy who has no mangerial expierience at all, so he clearly won't know how to handle the situation that we were in. Let's be honest, Speed was only there because of his name! What Sheffield United should have done is make him sign a contract (because The Board should have known Wales were looking at him) that stated he would stay all season. It was so obviouse Speed was going to sell us out (and just look at how bad he's doing at Wales!).
What Mccabe should have done after that is get an expierienced manager in (someone who would know how to avoid the drop) but instead decided to hire Micky Adams - a worser manager than Speed. I think Micky's record somes everything up - 4 wins in 24 games or something like that.
The team I've done below is of our past players (some present) who we could have easily kept. The team could all be playing for us now and would probably of took us to the Premiership.

GK - Paddy Kenny
RB - Kyle Walker
CB - Chris Morgan
CB - Kyle Bartley
LB - Kyle Naughton
RM - Lee Martin
CM - Micheal Tongue
CM - Leon Britton
LM - Greg Halford
RS - Jon Stead
LS - Luton Shelton

Subs - Bent, Henderson, Killgallon, Monty, Stephen Quinn, Simonsen, Nosworthy

Marcus Bent again? Are you in Love with him?

He's a quality player who would have some impact of the bench. Who would you rather have in the team - Bent or Cresswell (who is absolutely terrible upfront)

I agree, Cresswell is shocking and I am not saying he is a good player but he did score about 15 goals last season and finished as our top goal scorer. When was the last time the so called quality player Bent got double figures in one season? Infact when was the last time he scored 1 goal?

Today proved that the youngsters have a long way to go before they're going to stand out at first team level. We shouldn't rely on them next season, but try to include one or two and let them rotate a bit. It's clear that we have to make quite a few senior signings as well this summer, not just youngsters.

not easy to believe with liars like mccabe and yes-men like Adams at the helm

Yes man? Ah, you still think managers can affect the buying and selling of players? Surely you're old enough to know better?

Bang on. Today was a good result - it doesn't allow the club to fool themselves that we have the answers within.

Away at Scunthorpe was when he last scored. Not much of an achievement I know, but he is our joint second highest goal scorer this season.

Also, below Wednesday I fear, for the first time in living memory.

LS - Luton Shelton

If the team needed a player that could run like an Olympic sprinter and had all the ball control of a bucket of dead jellyfish then Luton was your man. Apart from that he looked like he was made mainly from spare coathangers.

And I can't help but notice Nosworthy on the bench. Surely in the last few years we've had better choices of benchwarmers than Nyron Nosworthy?

If you're younger than 11 that is!

Our results this season tend to suggest that we do very badly against poor teams, but not too badly against better teams.

24 of our points came from the top half of the table, and 12 of those were against sides in the play-off positions. Which means that we got only 18 points against bottom half of the table sides - a worse return than any other side in the division:.

Edit: So assuming 3rd division teams are worse than 2nd division teams we really are doomed!!

Is it only 11 years? Obviously I do remember it, for years they were a Division above us. I'd be very worried that the pendulum is swinging back their way, though.

At the moment I think it's more a case of us going backwards at a faster rate than they are, rather than them making any huge strides forward. That could change though.

We gave him permission to speak to Wales and secured a nice little compensation package to boot. We GLADLY took the money and ran there.

Danny Webber, Billy Sharp, Rob Hulse, Richard Creswell, Henri Camera, Ched Evans & Jamie Ward have been on the books over the last few seasons and you choose...... Luton Shelton and Marcus Bent? :loopy:

No, 'fraid not. Just referred to 'Micky Adams' two or three times. Worrying signs indeed.

Oops, sounds like he's gone all Mental Micky. We need to get rid for a fresh start (mind you it's useless unless those in charge buck their ideas up!)

I'm sorry, I skipped half that thread, did someone say that we shouldn't worry that SWANSEA fucking gave us a football lesson (again) because we might be good in a few years. Mate, our wage bill probably dwarfs theirs. We should be going there and bossing them. Instead we are worse than Scunny over a full season. The only thing keeping me sane is that the biggest club outside of Man Utd finished behind the giants of Rochdale, Peterbro, orient etc.

We've suffered a huge mis management. Sinclair was probably cheaper than Cresswell. I'm going to stop there. But you get my point.

I did see SV's view on Shelton though. I saw the kid st Man U and he was like Pele on speed and ran them ragged. I saw him at Charlton and he was the worst player I've ever seen in a utd shirt. after I'd drafted him in to my fantasy team aswell. he's basically shit hence why no one else has come in and made a footballer of him. I reckon Nade could still do a job though. :-)
