Today's Star Retro section has a great picture on pages 2-3 of a large group of Woodhouse Blades about to set off to Leicester on May 5th, 1990. Has someone on here got the right equipment to put a copy of it on here? I am sure there must be a few forum members included.

Can't see a link but I'd guess it's the one where we we all going on the late great Bobby Darkers "executive" double decker buses. "No seats left Bobby" "what's it say there?" "Standing allowed 12?• "Theer tha goes".
I'm on it and at least two more posters that I know.

The Beighton Blades wouldn't go upstairs on the buses because that's where the Woodhouse lot were Fred. They sat near the drivers.

Reminds me of the old half one bus home on Fridays and Saturday nights,if the Woodhouse lads were on and you got to Moore and Wrights before the bus was stopped and everyone got thrown off,it was a result

I'm sure some of those were pork supporters, "dank" kingswoods brother (forget his name ) second row far left, many many old woodhouse lads. Great picture, fantastic away day.

Always a good relationship between Woodhouse and Beighton Blades starting with nights in Woodhouse youth club as kids and later nights in The Stag - crombies and Doc Martins the order of the day and Lambreta scooters.
Who remembers that last bus No 25 home round Cliffe Wheel??
Great times, great memories

Always seemed to be trouble with Millwall in the mid 80s. In '83 at the Den all the Blades coaches windows were put through, at the time Hauges buses at Darnall used to supply them from the Lane, that was the last time they did. As an aside for the same match, the football special (train) ended up getting lost and Blades fans missed the game thanks to BR, that I believe was the last football special United fans have had to the capital, for a normal league game anyway.

Two or three years later after an home game against them Millwall stayed out around Sheffield, it kicked off between the two sets of fans and a Millwall fan lost his life. Not directly down to our fans, I think so the story goes he fell over and cracked his head on the kerb. I think the Woodhouse incident happened the season after, they'd played somewhere like Bradford or Barnsley, and minibus of their fans dropped into Woodhouse on the way home. Thought they'd stop off and take the piss, from what I've been told most of the village turned out and gave Millwall a hiding. I'm sure some any Woodhouse Blades from that era would be able to confirm if that's about right???

I was in the Angel that night never seen it empty as quick by all accounts Millwall's boys had already took a severe beating in the village by the time the lads from the Angel got there.

Evening all, my dad is in that photo, he’s been reminiscing recently. He claims there is a colour version of that photo, if anyone could point me in the direction of where I might be able to find it/get a copy I’d be very grateful

Not all correct It was around April 86
Millwall had played away I think at L666s and they stopped off in Sheffield it kicked off outside The Mulberry
The Millwall fan was running down Commercial Street and fell over and as you say cracked his head

Apparently they stopped off in Beighton first then came to Woodhouse and got a hiding
Two or three served time for that incident

For an accurate summary...... from 2015 on here.

A notorious incident that went roughly as:

In the mid-80s they'd been playing a night match at Barnsley i think... a group of them came into Sheffield for a gargle after that game, and got into a series of scraps with locals. One of their lads (apparently) attempting to drop-kick someone fell backwards onto a kerb, smacked his head and later died.

The following year the same group hired a van, went to their West Brom away game, and drove up to Sheffield afterwards - allegedly with a deliberate mission to even the score. They called in early bar on the edge of Sheffield for a sherbert or two and to wind themselves up and "practise" their tactics for the trip into town.

Unfortunately their local knowledge was lacking, and the place they chose on the edge of Sheffield was "the George" in Woodhouse.

Now, Woodhouse - especially at that time - while not presenting a rough-arsed face to the world, was a very close knit community with a lot of seriously handy individuals that were very tight.

Big mistake. They mugged someone in the toilets, dropped my mates brother in the bar but then had to endure a bit of a kicking (and "Pool-balling") in the pub, during which word got round the rest of the pubs in Woodhouse. By the time the police arrived to haul what was left of them off for their own safety, I think they'd vowed to read up on safety helmets and defunct northern pit village culture.

Makes you proud to be a Woodhouse lad!
