Picture the scene: Sat 4th Feb 2017 - It's 70 minutes into the game and we're still drawing 0-0 at home to AFC Wimbledon. They've parked the bus with 11 men behind the ball. Lafferty isn't doing anything down then left, Freeman can't get past his man on the right. Our 3 centre-backs have barely had a thing to do.

The sub board gets held up - Basham is coming off, we're switching to 4-4-2! The tricky winger we've just signed in the JTW makes his debut, skins his man, puts in a pinpoint cross and SHARP rifles it in on the volley and takes us 12 points clear of 2nd place.

Realistically who could that winger be?

Sounds like JImmy Johnstone.

Maybe the same one who created the late winners against Oxford, Bury, Cov and Oldham and the late equalisers against Scunny, Bradford and Fleetwood?

What?

Oh...

Right.

But not of 1975 vintage I'm assuming?

1975 might have been an improvement on what followed! ;)

Am I alone in thinking that the OP title was just a spelling mistake? I read it as Whingeing!

Ha it's a month since I wrote this delirious drivel. Enter Riley...

If he actually plays!

Personally I think if we went 4-4-2, we should play Riley at right back and push Freeman further up front. I think the problem it causes is that means that Duffy would automatically play as a left mid/winger and he just gets isolated out there when he's much better roaming about in that free number 10 role.

IMO, Riley should come in for Lafferty at left wing back as Lafferty is still carrying a back injury, replace Basham with Wright and move EEL to Right Centre Back and restore either Lavery or Done up front with Hanson on the bench if we are struggling to break down the opposition and it's still 0-0.

If Carruthers hits the ground running.... It'll be, Duffy who?

Answering the OP specifically:

No need whatsoever to switch to 4-4-2.as 3-5-2 has all the width needed and we only need 3 defenders at the back, if that.

1.O'Shea has ability to 'create magic', it's in his locker apparently.
2. Riley has class.
3. Chapman will develop considerably given opportunties.
4. Hussey can cross a ball !!
5. Duffy can play out wide
6. Sharp can cross a ball.

In the game at 0-0 with the opposition entrenched with 10 men back. Step in James Hanson with EEL or Clarke alongside him - all of a sudden a different ball game, irresistable !!

Dangerous wide men spread their defence to try to stop crosses at all costs. Then there's every opportunity to go through the centre of their defence - step up Duffy, Coutts and Fleck -play it to Sharp's feet or Hanson's feet, they know what they are doing in the crowded box - play and go for the return, please do it, please!

Get someone to mention this to CW, it's absolutely spot on for me. :)
