I thought that one of the key differences last night was that they had ‘genuine’ wingers, who got the ball high up the pitch and were comfortable and confident taking the full back on. We had full backs who received the ball deeper and seldom beat their man. Our overlapping play was a real strength earlier in the season but we’ve lost it now and need to re-think our approach. There was too much ‘race forward, meet resistance, send it sideways or backwards’ again last night.

I'm in agreement that wing-backs aren't always the answer, but I'm not sure we have the personnel to play out and out wingers now.

I really miss wingers.
For a while now teams have doubled up on our wingback, just look at Villa's goal and numerous Wolves chances last night.

Our game is massively based on width, crossing and overlaps. WINGERS have to be considered going forward.

The stop, turn round and play it back (playing the safe ball) has been going on for a while now.

CW alluded to how quickly wolves broke on us in his interview where be said Wolves broke so quickly took TWO PASSES and the ball was up to the front lads who were all moving and running at our defence.

As he actually mentioned this why in all figgity fuckery do we have to take 20 passes before we venture forward. That is precisely what some have of us have been banging on about on here for a while now I.e. we are so slow to get into attacking positions whilst we let the opposition funnel back and get defensively set that it' now costing us.

The speed and tempo has gone out of our game. No one can call Wolves a long ball side but they got the ball up to the attacking third very quickly.

If we learn from Wolves and start getting the ball into the final third a lot quicker than we have been doing, then maybe the stinging defeat last night would be a blessing in disguise.

Learn from it Utd and change the negative football back into quick positive football.

Freeman, Holmes, Brooks and Thomas. There are a few. I bet George could too because while his end product is hit and miss I bet he's a nightmare to play against, he just goes and goes and goes.
We'd get more crosses in and stretch the game more so our central players who can create wouldn't be crowded out.

Costa 12 Million
Jota (undisclosed plays for Athletico Madrid) guessing he cost a fortune
Cavalero Portuguese international.

You want wingers get looking down into league one again. The best winger in League one Maddison we cannot afford.

Last 2 games we have come up against those above and against Villa Snodgrass and Adomoah.

We don’t compete with championship teams financially, hence we don’t get the players they can get.

I’m still a little delicate and not seeing 100% and thought this was about wHingers.

Bottom line is that after 4 minutes the people stood around me accepted that this really is a good wolves team with some talented and expensive players and if we got a draw we’d have done well.

No whingers in the blades ranks that I heard just some honesty and realism. That probably made for the subdued nature and that unusual side of pitch away ‘end’.

Time to move on, consolidate, bed in the new signings and above all Not whinge.

That cat in the second half showed plenty of speed down the wing - sign him/her up!
Reminded me of this photo on the front cover of the Football League Review. It was the Liverpool v Arsenal game in August 1964. First ever match in Match of the Day
