After the debacle of last season,i thought a year in the 3rd tier without any major additions to a dejected squad was going to be at best, uninspiring. How wrong i was, whether we get promoted or not,i think it has been the most enjoyable season for ages mainly because we play our football in a thoughtful and constructive way, with an end result !
In my opinion,the major reasons for Danny Wilson to be applauded are ;

1) The wonderful development of Maguire and Lowton.
2) Chris Morgan's involvement within the coaching set-up.
3) The incredible improvement in players who looked "Dead" Simonson,Collins,Evans,Cresswell etc..
4) Putting the years of "Hoofball" to bed, hopefully for ever.
5) And the most important, coaxing Frank Barlow out of semi-retirement to mastermind the change.

I'm old enough to have seen Frank play for United,he was the same as he is now, quiet, clever and a great football brain ! If we do get promoted, don't forget the part that Frank Barlow played,if we don't then at least be grateful we are watching the best football seen at the lane for years !!

Hey 'Doc', you were my first (of many) Blades heroes, to me you always looked about 52 even when you played! :)

Seriously though, I too saw Frank play and he was always unsung, understated and hardly a high achiever in his playing career. Likewise, his coaching career has followed a similar path except I think his achievments have been higher than as a player. He is very well regarded in the game and we have an exceptionally knowledgeable, intelligent bloke on our coaching staff, and I know for certain the players hold him in very high esteem.

As for the fans....... well, I've not seen anyone post that old cherry " Whats Barlow do anyway? he just stands there with his arms folded"...... so he must be doing something right!;)

For the first time in years I actually look forward to going to the games. DW has been a revelation to us all, I grudgingly must also praise the club owner for brining him in. ( I still blame the club owner for where we find ourselves though)

I think the players themselves deserve much credit. They never jumped ship or caused team disruption. Oh I know that some cynical members will come out with the 'well I'm not surprised given their contracts' argument. Those same cynics however were often pointing out how crap the likes of Doyle, Collins, Cresswell, Evans, Quinn actually were, when they've actually proven they are good professional footballers.

The OP and this sum up my own feelings too - didn't come much last season - was just woeful and a full day out (from Braddie) just wasn't worth it to go home totally pissed off...

But after my first match this season, I couldn't believe the difference - few ups and downs but that's to be expected...

Can we now sing: nah, nah, nah, nah....????

Yes, I'll say it. The players dumped us in Division Three in the first place, putting us on a par with the the likes of Stevenage and Yeovil.

Danny Wilsons biggest achievment in my book is giving the club some dignity back.. When out in mixed circles and asked who I support, I can say "Sheffield United" again and have pride when I say it.

Agreed. Whatever happens, Wilson has conducted himself with dignity at all times.

He certainly wasn't my choice, but once he was appointed I had a real instinct that he was the right man at the right time. This was based on his time at Barnsley where he created the 'Brazil' team rather than anything else.

He has begun the process of turning the stranded juggernaut around. He has brought long-overdue proper football back. He has gone about it with quiet dignity. Warnock's touchline antics might have won a point a two but I'll bet they lost us far more. DW has changed our reputation along with our style. We are beginning to be admired; not loathed.

There has been no panic when setbacks have come along (even the unprecedented loss of a complete back four in 90 minutes), rather a measured but steely determination guided by proper football principles.
It is so important that this sea-change is vindicated by promotion this season. Let's do all we can to help achieve it.

Its been great so far, Danny: I'm more than happy to be Walking in a Wilson Wonderland.

Would we be taking 4000 to Rochdale if Micky Adams was still in charge?

Can you imagine our away followings this season if he was still here? We've had fantastic backing all season home and away, and for me, what has really made this season has been being with 4000 others in tin pot grounds far from home enjoying a good sing and atmosphere.

Seems a long time ago now singing "singing in the rain" at Yeovil

Dont forget the appointment of Dearden too ,a scout that recognizes a footballer it seems.

I don't need to, I'm a paying fan like everyone else, and that's my bloody opinion, whether its worth fuck all or not.
You blame the players whilst most blame previous managers for the way they got them playing. yet the same players carrying out different instructions get good results and most fans are enjoying it.
But like you say your entitled to express your opinion to blame them. I respect your right to not forgive them.

Most players have found their level and are no good for the Championship, which is one of the reasons why we went down, and will prob go down again if we don't get rid or improve on what we have for next season.

I thought KM brought Morgan in as player coach to ease the fan's annoyance of having DW as manager

Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of other blame to go around. More pages than are needed to print the Encylopedia Britannica would be required to list the catalogue of poor decisions made at this club since May 13 2007. I won't say I have not enjoyed it at times this season, of course I have, but seeing our name on the fixture list at the side of Rochdale and Hartlepool still grates, even now!

For me personally, I'll reserve judgement on Wilsons achievements until the season is over

For me, he will be judged then on what he has acheived.

If he takes us up, he will have acheived something and will deserve credit

If he doesn't take us up, he will have acheived f'k all. The history books I think will probably back that up

People can talk as much as they wish regards, dignity and playing the game the right way and bringing on the young uns. After all, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But personally, promotion is the aim and I will judge Wilson on that.

If we don't go up this season, I shudder to think what the squad will look like next season compared to teh the players Wilson has had at his disposal this season and then God knows how long we'll be stuck in the "abyss"

Get us over the finishing line DW and you'll get all the praise you'll deserve!

considering 70% of our fans thought mid way would be an achievement last august , and you know who you are, Id say de boy done good

Oh Danny boy
the blades the blades are calling
across the city , turn away from the dark side
become a blade
and take us up this season
then Danny boy oh danny boy
we ll love you so

Apart from taking the Dingles to their one and only visit to the Premier League and a promotion at Hartlepool Danny boy has a fairly abysmal managerial record littered with relegations and sackings. At the moment he is performing way above expectations, his time with us being one of the best periods of his career. Up to now I can't really fault much of what he has done the question for me is can Danny keep the good work going ???
If we do get promotion things will be very much tougher next season maybe then we will then see just how good Danny is, I think that will be the time to judge what if anything he has achieved.

if we manage promotion and add a couple of quality signings into the squad without losing any of our players,i can see us in the top half of the championship next season.
counting chicks before they hatch-pah

I think a lot of us expected a real clear out last summer with most of the most experienced players leaving. If we'd done that I think a lot of fans would have been pretty happy with a mid table finish, viewing the season as one of transition. It was with that in mind that I personally voted 'mid table' (or was it 'top half'?) in a next season's expectation poll at the end of last season.

But as we kept most of last season's Championship squad (one that the club hoped would win promotion to the Premiership) and still have the highest paid squad in the league, I think promotion is/was a fair expectation.

I think that's a fair deduction. I for one said that we could just as easily finish in the bottom 6 as finish in the top 6. I said there would be a massive clear out of all the top earners and whilst one or two have gone, a fair few still remain.

We have done better than I expected tho and that's fair play. But no talk of acheivement from me until we have acheived something. Promotion or bust I'm afraid.

It's a major achievement to bring back football and rid us of mind-numbing hoof.

We fully deserved to be relegated last season. Some of the players who 'achieved' that are unrecognisable, such is their improvement under Danny.

The man's done a great job so far. Let's hope we see that recognised in the way we all hope. If not, he will still have done very well. Only the myopic or those with ludicrous hidden agendas will say otherwise.

Or not-so hidden agendas Pinch.
