Wilsons achievements

I think promotion is/was a fair expectation.

That's a bit of Stalinist revisionism old chap. Many players were/are vastly overpaid (in relative and absolute terms), so there's only a loose correlation between wages and expectations. Not only that, the difficulty of making wholesale changes to such an overpaid squad were discussed on here in the summer. If Hendo wasn't so highly paid here, there's no doubt we'd have got a better fee for him. It also explains why more players weren't shipped out.

I predicted a mid / bottom half finish (if memory serves), so I'm delighted with where we are.

I thought we'd be good for the playoffs, never in my mind did i think we'd be stil in with a shot at the title at this late stage.

Not sure how many people were prepared for quite how bad some of the teams were in this division.

True, but the stories of Leeds, Wendy and now PNE and Scunny show how this division can swallow you up.

If we don't make it this year I expect to be here for a while.

I'm not going to argue against you saying players are overpaid, but a lot of them have played (at times successfully) at a higher level than our current and to expect them to finish in the bottom half suggests an overestimation of the quality of English third tier football or an underestimation of the ability of our players.

Regarding your second point, I don't know if, or how hard, we tried to get rid of more players.

Absolutely, JD. There never has been a more pivotal season.

If we go up or not the test will come either way for DW because of the players we will lose if we dont and the players he recruits if we do.
Either way for this season at least I thank you Mr Danny Wilson it has been so memorable.

Probably the latter. I based my assessment on the most recent data available which, in the summer, strongly suggested they were all shite. :)

Bumpity bump!

Just thought that I'd get this near the top, so when the season is finally over, we can carry on the debate of Wilson's achievements this season

Right, as should've been the case originally, now is the time to discuss Wilson's achievements

I'll start the ball rolling:

F'k all!

Yes, we know all about the hard luck stories

Yes, we know we've played some decent football at times

But ultimately we have royally f'ked up and achieved nothing but more and probably worse to come of the same shite I've had the pleasure of witnessing this season...................... next season"

If anyone thinks that not going up automatically, followed by not going up through the play-offs, followed by the very likely departure of most, if not all of our better players, followed by another season in this God awful division, followed by an even less likelyhood of promotion next season, can be a mark of achievement then f'kin God help us

Truely pissed off

The issue I had when he got the job is his abysmal record (plus he has a face like a punched turd). The only reason he appeared to get the job is that him and McCabe were neighbours in Spain!

What i have witnessed this season while ultimately disappointing was the rebirth of our football club. Having been such an awful side to watch we are playing football at last. In true Sheffield united form we managed to conjour a new method of failure. Our top scorer and talisman going to prison stopped automatic promotion which was a cert until then. Follow that withour keeper missing a penalty in the play off final. It has to be a first.

I never followed the Bladesbecause i expected glory. i was given the gift by my father as a boy. Unlike these Liverpool, Man united and now Man city adoptees i am real. This is my club and I can once more be proud of it. DW has brought that back.
